I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 114: Repayment
Chapter 114: Repayment
Kade did stop again, around three or four hours later. This time, in his human form. Dressed in the same clothes he wore the day before... It seemed that he had transformed like most wolf shifters did, that is by getting undressed first, not ripping his clothes apart as he had done the last (and the only other) time Felix had seen his wolf form.
"Hi," he grinned, flashing his white teeth. His smile was a tad awkward, and with a hint of tiredness and a little bit of unease, but not as crooked as it had been the morning before, when he had arrived in Silverfall. "Can we talk for a moment?"
Felix eyed him suspiciously through the crack, not daring to open the door any further. Not that it would make any difference - if Kade wanted to get in, he would - but by keeping the door only barely open, Felix at least felt as if he stood the chance of stopping the Alpha from barging in.
"It’s part of the repayment the witch requested," Kade added, trying to convince the Omega.
Although Felix still had some doubts - why would the witch suddenly request Kade to come talk to him? - he still let the Alpha in. Avoiding him wouldn’t solve anything.
The scent of sandalwood still hung in the air, even though Felix had opened the windows to ventilate the house. Felix closed the door, but he didn’t offer Kade anything to drink, or even ask to sit down, keeping the conversation pretty much at the doorstep. Things had gone too far last night, so he now had to balance it by being a bit colder and more distant than usual.
"Get to the point," he said, crossing his arms on his chest.
"Right. First of all, I would like to thank you for allowing me to come this time... And for connecting me to the witch," Kade started. Which wasn’t exactly ’getting to the point’, but Felix let that slide. "And for last night as well. It was truly an urgent situation, and I’ve been worried a lot... Since that person is truly important to me."
Felix let out a quiet sigh, involuntarily easing his defensive attitude. "How is he now?"
"Much better, thanks! The witch said that the curse had been undone, so his condition won’t keep deteriorating any further... Although he still has a lot of healing ahead of him, from all the damage the curse had already done to his body." Kade paused for a moment, hesitating, before he continued with a shy smile, "Which brings me to the second point. You see, the witch promised to brew the potions that would help him recover... The problem is that he’s currently missing some ingredients... And the process of brewing the potions can take a while as well..."
"...So?" Felix quirked his brows.
"So I might have to visit Silverfall again soon," Kade finished. "Two times at least. Once when I get the ingredients, and then once more to pick up the potions... I would like to do it personally, if possible. I know I could just send some of my trusted pack mates... But it’s such a sensitive issue, that I just wouldn’t feel at ease if someone else were to go in my place. If that’s alright with you, of course."
"...Okay."
"Yes?" Kade perked up. "You agree?"
"Well," Felix scoffed, rolling his eyes. "It’s not like I can stop you from coming to Silverfall if that’s what you want to do, now can I?"
"But I don’t want this to affect that agreement that we made."
"It won’t."
"You sure?"
"Yes," Felix sighed heavily. Although he wasn’t sure to what extent Kade’s request was genuine, and to what it might be a way to break their agreement without being obvious about it... Perhaps he had good reasons to feel doubtful about his so-called trusted guards. One neglected his duty a few months ago while watching over Felix, while another paid off a rogue to follow Felix allegedly without Kade’s knowledge... So, when his father’s life and well-being were concerned, it was understandable that he was extra cautious.
"Great!" Kade flashed a wide grin. "Thank you very much!"
"Mn. So, is that all?"
"No, not yet." Kade reached into his back pocket, and took out three thick envelopes. "The payment for the treatment."
Felix lifted his brows, checking the content. "Why are you giving it to me?"
"The witch told me to do it. He said that... It’s the rent he owes you for the past months."
Even at a glance, it was obvious that it was way more than Felix had paid for his rent, let alone if he and Remi were to split the rent in half, as most roommates would do. It was way too much for him...
But that wasn’t something to discuss with Kade. He wasn’t about to question the price that the witch requested for his help - he had worked all day and night long to undo the course, after all. Not to mention, it was his business, so it was up to him how much he charged, and the service he provided was something hard to find, even for someone like the leader of the Bloodmoon Pack, so perhaps the high price was perfectly justified - as for the witch giving all those money to him... He would bring it up when he had the opportunity, but if that’s what the witch wanted to do, then he wouldn’t oppose it. Remi did live with him, and Felix needed the money... Otherwise, he would have to leave Vivi in the nursery, and return to work soon. Even though she was still so young...
"Umm..." Kade scratched his head, interrupting Felix’s thoughts. "What’s going on with you and the witch?"
"Hmm?" Felix flinched, lifting his eyes from the envelopes full of money. "Well... I’m his assistant, am I not?"
"...Right." Kade went silent for a long while, his eyes wandering around as he hesitated, pondering over something. Just as Felix was about to open the door and try to bid him goodbye, escaping the awkward situation, Kade spoke up again,
"I already know he’s your fox. He even sleeps in your bed... So, what is going on between you two?"
