Chapter 619: 619 Fairy Tail: The Guilt of Lucy Heartfilia, The Cursed Girl Juvia Lockser, The Defeat of Makarov and The Murderous Intent of Jose Porla.
(Magnolia Town)
Allen used "Apparition", leaving the conflict at Phantom Lord behind. It was a difficult decision, as he had to choose between staying with the others and trusting that Lucy could handle the situation, or going back.
While the pendants were reliable, Allen couldn’t make them like the original ones. So he returned and found one of the S-Class mages attacking Lucy and Mirajane.
...
Allen remained silent, observing the blue-haired girl on the ground. After a moment, he closed his eyes before opening them again.
"If you have no intention of fighting, then just leave..."
Allen’s words surprised both Lucy and Mirajane. Noticing their stares, Allen shook his head.
"At Phantom Lord, I saw plenty of ill-intentioned mages—hostile ones, some who even hated Fairy Tail." Allen turned his gaze toward Juvia. "However... I don’t feel any of that coming from her."
Upon hearing Allen’s words, Juvia sat up. "Juvia was only following orders... I don’t hold a personal grudge against Fairy Tail."
"What’s that supposed to mean?! So you were fine with the order to attack us?!" Lucy snapped in frustration.
Juvia looked at Lucy in silence, then at Allen, but quickly averted her eyes. "My mission wasn’t to hurt you... It was to capture you and bring you back to Phantom..."
"What?!" Lucy exclaimed.
"I see..." Allen frowned,
He understood—Lucy had been the real target, not Fairy Tail. From the very beginning, the entire attack on Fairy Tail and Levy had been nothing but smoke and mirrors. Although, it wasn’t a foolproof plan, since it depended on Lucy being alone in Magnolia.
Mira took a step forward, "Juvia Lockser, why does your master want Lucy?"
"I suppose it has something to do with her father..." Allen said calmly, but those few words froze Lucy in place.
Juvia nodded. "Jude Heartfilia asked us to capture his daughter, Lucy Heartfilia..."
After finishing her words, Juvia looked away, clearly ashamed—a sharp contrast to her earlier attitude. But no one paid attention to that. At that moment, Lucy was trembling. A mix of anger, frustration, regret, and fear overwhelmed her. She realized that this entire situation had been caused by her.
"That’s not going to happen..."
Lucy felt a warm hand on her head that seemed to dispel all the emotions swirling in her mind.
"A man who abandoned his daughter—no matter the reason—failed as a father. To want to control her and demand her return after that is absurd. Even worse, hiring a guild to kidnap her..." Allen narrowed his eyes, lowering his voice, "More than anything, regardless of the excuse Jose Porla may use, his resentment and hatred for Fairy Tail are real. Even without your father, he would’ve eventually found another excuse to destroy Fairy Tail..."
Juvia and Mirajane remained silent at his words, while Lucy stood there in shock. Then her eyes watered as she knew Allen was comforting her. He had always been that way since he had known her.
"Don’t worry, Lucy. You saw it too, didn’t you?" Allen smiled at her. "These kinds of people accept anyone with a smile. No one will blame you for this incident. Right, Mira?"
Mirajane, who had heard everything, smiled and shook her head. "Lucy-chan, like I told Allen, your past doesn’t matter. At least here in Fairy Tail, everyone will welcome you with open arms..."
"Mira-san..." Lucy began crying again—but this time, not out of frustration, but happiness. Allen pulled her into a hug. Of course, she didn’t resist.
"Thank y-you..." Lucy let the warmth envelop her, giving her strength.
....
"..." Juvia lowered her head and clenched her hands, feeling envious. She had a withdrawn, melancholic, and gloomy personality. As a child, it always rained around her, which caused people to treat her like a bearer of misfortune. That made her close off her heart to others.
Over the years, she found some peace in Phantom Lord because there, power was more highly valued. So, she simply focused on completing missions... But that didn’t mean she found happiness—her days were gray and depressing. Even in Phantom, many didn’t want her around. So when she saw Allen and Mira accepting Lucy—even though she had indirectly caused a war and put her guildmates in danger—Juvia felt envious.
The sky began to cloud over again as Juvia remained seated on the ground.
"I’ve seen people in the apocalypse with more hope than you..."
Juvia looked up, realizing Allen was in front of her, kneeling. She became flustered and panicked, but before she could run, Allen tapped her forehead again.
"Ouch..."
"I can see what the problem is. Honestly, it’s absurd that you became an S-Class mage with such poor control over your own magic..."
"I... I’m not a curse?" Juvia asked, almost desperately.
"Curse?" Allen blinked in surprise, then realized what the issue was. "Your magic manifested at a young age, and with no one to guide you, you grew up thinking you were cursed... right?"
Hearing that, Mirajane sighed. It wasn’t uncommon for young, talented mages to awaken their magic early, but without anyone to explain what was happening, they’d end up in trouble. In small towns and isolated villages, knowledge of magic was scarce, and people often fell into superstition. What happened to Juvia had also happened to Mira and her siblings.

Rangiku – He’s just like the captain!
Nanao – You mean Captain Hitsugaya?
Unohana – Ara, the captain had such strong reiatsu that it overflowed even before any formal training~
Yoruichi – In that case, we can already imagine what that girl’s childhood was like... poor thing...
Wednesday – It also explains Allen’s annoyance—spending years perfecting his magic, only for a girl who can’t even control hers to be considered S-Class in her world...
Bocchi – I hope he’s not too harsh with her...
Jalter – Even if you want to pity her, don’t forget—she’s still an enemy...
Kurumi – Ara ara~ A cute girl with abandonment issues. We all know how this will end~
Rebecca – I just hope she doesn’t become another adopted daughter...

"I think I’m becoming soft in this world..." Allen murmured, then stood up and looked at Juvia in silence before offering his hand.
"Huh?"
"Life’s really sad when you’re alone. If you’ve got nowhere to go, nowhere to return to—just come with us. I’ll help you control your magic so you don’t have to live under the rain anymore. And this noisy group will cheer you up..." Allen laughed, "Though they might drive you crazy first..."
"Ah..." Juvia gasped in disbelief. Her lips trembled, and her eyes filled with tears. She had been waiting for years—for someone to accept her. For someone to tell her it wasn’t her fault. For someone to assure her she wasn’t a walking disaster or a cursed child. She had spent years waiting for someone to offer a hand... someone to tell her it was okay to live in this world.
"Thank you..." Juvia said through tears as she took that hand.
Mirajane wiped away a tear before smiling. Lucy sighed. Even after being attacked by Juvia, she couldn’t bring herself to hate her. More than anything, she had been part of the cause and wasn’t blamed either.
’Would it be selfish to feel jealous right now?’ Lucy puffed her cheeks.
Juvia’s case still needed to be discussed with the master, but Allen wanted to see her commitment. So he asked her to show her guild mark.
"If Allen-sama desires it~" Juvia blushed but began unbuttoning her clothes anyway.
"Wait, what are you doing?!" Lucy immediately stopped her. Was this crazy girl really trying to strip?
"Ah, I’m sorry—I was just following orders." Juvia stared at Lucy in silence. "Is there a problem?"
A vein popped on Lucy’s forehead, and she regretted feeling pity for Juvia. This girl had barely arrived and was already doing something so shameless.
"Juvia-san, where is your emblem?" Mirajane asked with a smile that wasn’t really a smile.
"Um..." Juvia glanced sideways at Allen, but couldn’t lie. She removed her right glove, revealing the mark on her hand—just like Lucy’s.
Lucy smiled angrily, "Oh? So what was that earlier all about?"
Juvia looked away indifferently, "Juvia just wanted to show she wasn’t carrying any weapons..."
"Liar!" Lucy grabbed Juvia’s clothes and leaned in to whisper, "You’re not fooling me..."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about..."
"Hmph..."
Allen frowned. Five minutes had already passed—it may not seem like much, but in a war, time was essential.
"Juvia, show me your hand..." Allen said as he approached. The girl obediently did so, smirking at Lucy as she did.
"I’m going to erase your emblem... is that okay?"
Mira and Lucy froze, but Juvia, who had already expected that, smiled. "I’ll do whatever you ask~"
In any other situation, Allen would’ve noticed the peculiar tone in Juvia’s voice, but right now he just wanted to return to the battlefield as soon as possible. With that in mind, he didn’t waste time. Slowly, the magical mark on Juvia’s hand disappeared—along with her entire connection to Phantom Lord.
Of course, it would be up to the guild master whether or not to accept Juvia, knowing where she came from—but knowing that kind old man, Allen didn’t think he’d turn her away.
...
(Oak Town, Phantom Lord)
Shouts of rage, explosions of magic flying everywhere, screams, and punches. Fairy Tail was strong, but even the regular mages from Phantom were powerful.
"Take this, Titania!"
A light mage tried to blind Erza, but she pulled out a mirror shield that reflected the spell and temporarily blinded the light mage instead. Erza took the opportunity and kicked him, sending him crashing into a wall.
"Don’t give up!" Erza shouted, trying to motivate the weaker Fairy Tail mages since they were having the hardest time in this war.
Erza looked up, sensing the guild master’s power fading into the distance. She felt a twinge of concern about letting him go alone, but she couldn’t follow—not when even Allen had left.
"Levy, you’re using too much magic!" Cana yelled after taking down another mage.
"I’m fine!" Levy replied stubbornly.
She had taken this personally, having almost been a victim herself. Only minutes had passed since the conflict began, but the girl hadn’t stopped writing one magical word after another, attacking anyone who stood in her way.
"This is bad..." Reedus felt afraid.
Fairy Tail was so strong that even a small group of their members could take down entire guilds alone. But Phantom Lord was different. Not only were they powerful, but their S-Class mages—Element 4—and Gajeel Redfox hadn’t even shown up yet. The main difference between guilds was the numbers. Phantom Lord had more mages than Fairy Tail, and even without their S-Class mages, they could still fight.
"Ahhh!" Natsu shouted as he exploded with flames, defeating several mages. "Is that all?! Where are the strong ones?!"
"Erza-san, how much longer do we have to hold out?" Laki punched another mage before stepping back. The girl wasn’t just a waitress—she was a capable mage too.
"Until we win, or until Master defeats Jose Porla!"
Despite her words, Erza grew worried as she noticed several injuries among her guildmates. She was making a huge effort to cover for the weaker members, but it was inevitable that some would get hurt.
’Allen...’
Erza shook her head and switched into one of her black armors, attacking with fury. She scolded herself for her weakness. Instead of waiting for Allen to show up and help her, she should be doing her best not to disappoint the trust he placed in her by leaving her in charge.
With that in mind, Erza increased her ferocity, which inspired several other members to do the same. And despite being outnumbered, they started pushing back the Phantom Lord mages. The battle was quickly shifting in Fairy Tail’s favor.
"How dare you attack us being this weak?!" Natsu mocked with rage. No one could stop the Dragon Slayer.
*Boom!*
The intense battlefield was suddenly interrupted when an object fell from above. When the Fairy Tail mages saw what it was, their reactions were filled with shock and disbelief.
Makarov Dreyar was lying on the ground—his body green and seemingly in agony.
"Master!"
"Master?!"
"Grandpa!"
Everyone rushed to help Makarov. The moment they saw him, they realized they couldn’t sense any magic power coming from him.
"What do we do?!" Laki dropped to her knees, unsure how to treat the guild master. No—before that—even the mere thought of imagining that Makarov Dreyar would be defeated was something that never crossed anyone’s mind before the start of this war.
"Damn!" Erza clenched her fists and turned pale. She didn’t know what to do, with Makarov’s defeat no one could beat Phantom Lord’s guild master.
....
High above in the guild, Jose sat quietly in his chair.
Jose was a tall middle-aged man with dark red hair tied into a ponytail, and a mustache that hung downward. He wore a classic wizard’s hat with the tip flopping forward and his guild’s symbol on it, a purple cape with pink trim, bat wings as an ornament on the back, a white shirt with his Saint Wizard insignia, and loose red pants.
Just moments ago, Makarov had been there. However, it hadn’t ended in a fight—Makarov had fallen into Jose’s trap and was attacked from behind.
"Makarov-san, that love you have for your guild is an easy weakness to exploit..." Jose said mockingly.
"It’s sad! Truly sad that a Saint Wizard dies in a place like this!"
A large man with a blindfold was crying exaggerated tears as he looked toward where Makarov had fallen. However, he was the one who had attacked Makarov and taken him out of the fight.
"You don’t have to feel bad, Aria. Makarov was a fool who let himself be blinded by anger. That’s why he didn’t see he was walking right into a trap... a reckless man..." Jose smiled, though it quickly faded. "Everything went according to plan except for two things: one, Gajeel-san was defeated, and two, that new Fairy Tail mage drew too much attention. He’s stronger than I expected."
Jose was an arrogant man and hated being in Fairy Tail’s shadow—especially under Makarov’s shadow. Over time, this turned into deep hatred toward Makarov. That’s why he didn’t kill him. He wanted to take this opportunity to destroy the old man emotionally.
His plan was cruel—he wanted his members to wipe out the fairies so that when Makarov woke up, he would be consumed by despair seeing his "children" in such a state. But the more time passed, the more Jose began to feel that it was a foolish idea. Makarov was a Saint Wizard—if he went mad, he could slaughter Phantom Lord even if he didn’t win. Besides, Fairy Tail members were stronger on average.
Joseph did not notice a small red flash floating around him as if it were incandescent ash.
"I don’t even know why I came up with that plan in the first place. Why should I let the fairies live?!" Jose stood up from his chair... he had changed his mind. He needed to kill the Fairy Tail mages right now!
Jose unleashed his magical power, this overwhelming, dark, ghostly, and dangerous power spread throughout Phantom Lord.
...
Down below, the members of Fairy Tail felt Jose’s overwhelming pressure, and many were struck with fear.
"This is bad! Retreat!" Erza immediately ordered a retreat, preparing herself to face Jose alone.
Once again, the predictions were wrong. Jose is an arrogant Saint Wizard—according to Makarov—not to attack unless provoked. He considered himself above such things. But that had changed, as everyone could now feel a clear and deadly killing intent coming from above.
There were complaints, but upon seeing Makarov’s condition, everyone pulled back. This time, no one stayed behind—not even Natsu, who silently picked up Makarov and ran. This surprised Elfman, but Gray knew the reason: Natsu had matured, thanks to Allen.
’Speaking of that guy... where is he?’ Gray frowned. Ever since Galuna Island, he’d felt that Allen might be strong enough to take on a Saint Wizard. He’d be a huge help right now.
"Don’t get distracted, Gray!" Erza shouted as she used her Adamantine Armor to block the attacks coming from behind. "We must protect the master and not let anyone die!"
Once they passed through the gate, they weren’t greeted by a clear blue sky, but by hell itself. Hundreds of specters floated above them—shadows with claws and no legs, like Fairy Tail’s version of Dementors.
"Jose..." Erza muttered from behind as she saw who was blocking their path.
"You’re the Guild Master of Phantom Lord?!" Natsu stepped forward, facing Jose head-on.
Jose’s gaze grew cold. "Oh my, you all seem rather cheerful, considering your current situation..."
"Wait!" Levy spoke up. "Aren’t you afraid the Council will label you a dark guild?!"
Jose laughed. "I have no idea what you’re talking about. We’re simply defending ourselves against Fairy Tail’s attempt to destroy us."
"You bastard! What about the attack on our guild?!"
Jose tilted his head and smirked cynically. "If you’re referring to Gajeel-san’s actions against Fairy Tail, he will be punished—maybe even expelled."
In that moment, everyone understood. This had been a trap. Jose had meticulously planned everything, down to the excuse he’d give the Magic Council. And he wasn’t done yet—Erza barely managed to shield herself from a blast of fire, stronger than anything seen so far.
"You won’t get away so easily..."
"How tragic!"
Erza turned in anger to see that two S-Class mages had arrived—mages that many already recognized.
"Totomaru of the Great Flame, and Aria of the Sky... Element 4..."
"This just keeps getting worse!" Gray joined Erza in the rear guard.
At that moment, the pressure intensified. They were caught in the worst possible position: S-Class mages at their backs, and a Saint Wizard in front. Erza glanced behind her and made a quick decision.
"Gray, Natsu, Elfman—you take the rear. I’ll open a path forward!"
"Erza, are you crazy?!"
"We don’t have a choice!"
Erza didn’t hesitate—she charged toward Jose. As Titania, she should at least be able to do that much. But Jose’s cold stare told a different story. He lifted his finger, and a beam of purple energy shot out. Erza blocked it just in time—but her sword shattered, and she was thrown back.
"Erza!" Cana caught the redhead.
"I’m fine," Erza’s hands trembling from the impact. ’Something’s wrong... Was he always this strong?!’
What Erza didn’t see was the red particle floating around Jose’s body. That thing was slowly increasing Jose Porla’s power.
When all watched as Erza fell, a wave of despair washed over everyone. Even so, no one gave up. If they were going down, they’d go down fighting. That was the strength of Fairy Tail’s bonds.
Erza, staggering, stood up once more and summoned another sword.
"What a beautiful will..." Jose chuckled lightly, but his laughter quickly turned into a terrifying cackle. His expression twisted with a corrupted magical power that chilled everyone’s blood.
"BUT I’M SORRY—THIS IS THE END FOR YOU, FAIRIES!!"
In an instant...
Jose Porla’s wicked face twisted grotesquely...
His vision shifted—against his will.
A kick...
"Wha—?!" Jose couldn’t understand it. But there was a foot... smashing into his face.
A strong kick!
"I won’t let you..."
The last thing Jose saw were Allen’s eyes—right before he was kicked across miles of terrain, tearing through everything in his path. The impact created a massive shockwave in every direction.
When the dust cleared, only Allen stood there—calm, upright, with Timcampy floating above his head.
"Sorry, I’m a little late..." Allen blinked, his usual confident, relaxed, slightly lazy gaze completely unfazed, like he hadn’t just kicked one of the continent’s strongest wizards.
