Chapter 61: Battle against TAGNOK [1]

Rhett was breathless. It felt daunting - really daunting to even pass a stare at this therret beast. It was crazy now, smashing around the stadium, moving in circles, while the driver of his esseda moved the ropes sideways in fear fear.

TAGNOK charged at the other esseda, thrusting a hand forward which caught the carriage by the edge and tilted it sideways. The occupants jerked off it and cascaded on the ground.

The monster charged at them, his long claws reaching deep into the throat of one, blood slowly oozing out of it.

Rhett looked at the sky, it was sunny and bright but to his terrified eyes, it felt sunless and dark. Staring at TAGNOK, Rhett felt the creeps. This animal was moving with intense turpitude that would soon ravage him.

It bounced at the other man from the fallen carriage and ripped him apart with his hands.

"We’re dead!", screamed the man who was behind Rhett.

"That’s still a pleasant word", said Rhett.

"Oh", screamed the man, his face drawing near Rhett’s. "This is death!, we’ve been sent here to die, we’ve been sent here to-".

The sudden ripping of flesh halted the man.

"Ho - li - eee shit!", the man screamed.

TAGNOK had just torn the horse of the fallen carriage apart.

"We’ve got to keep dodging this freak!", Rhett said to the man. "If he gets to us, we’re dead meat".

The man wriggled the ropes and jerked it round, the horse gave a loud cry and the esseda fishtailed slightly as it hit a standstill just opposite TAGNOK.

"What are you doing?", Rhett asked the man.

"Going badass mode", the man replied like a wag and wriggled the ropes, the carriage storming right at the beast.

Rhett wanted to scream. "You’ll get us killed psycho!, you’ll kill the hell out of us!".

TAGNOK darted towards them, in a mad rush, carrying a hell of a speed and lots of wind with him.

Rhett blinked once, he did the second time, did again for the third and was attempting a fourth when TAGNOK leaped in the air, forward, almost reeling on their carriage. The man with Rhett slapped the horse butt so hard, the crowd in the stadium had to go in a :

"OOOHH!".

The horse gave a loud scream and slid under, TAGNOK leaping downwards onto the hard sandy ground and hitting its head.

"Whooo!, c’mon!", exclaimed the man.

"That’s some badass stuff you did right there", acknowledged Rhett. "Had to involve some big bags of courage eh?".

"You bet!", replied the man grinning. "Really big bags mate!".

TAGNOK was still on the floor, a vicious frown on his face, his eyes gleaming dangerously.

Rhett looked at the man in pity. "I hope we die honourable deaths".

"Yeah!", exclaimed the man softly. "Like some brave knights I guess".

Rhett nodded in affirmative and then a loud THUD!, jerked their heads to their right.

"Incoming!", screamed the man.

But it was too late, TAGNOK had already smashed his bulky fists on the sides of the carriage it tumbled over and somersaulted in the air, Rhett and the man jolting out of the esseda.

"You feeble mortals amaze me!", shouted the beast from afar, amidst the cheers of the crowd. It hit its massive hands together and stretched its legs.

Rhett and the man struggled up, in great pain. Their knight’s armour weighed them down together with the aching their bodies were aching them.

"Survival is for the fittest,"said the monster. "You all have been sent here to die and that I’m just going to do for you!".

Rhett’s eyes were becoming watery. Perhaps he wasn’t overpowered after all. He looked at the gigantic beast. Almost 9ft tall, he had no chance.

"Pssss", the man called him with the side of his lips.

Rhett looked at him.

"Can’t you save us?", said the man. "Don’t you have any ability, any one that will help us now?".

"I don’t know", said Rhett. "I don’t think they’ll be useful now".

The man’s eyes brightened up. "I have a spinning tail beast special. I don’t know, it ought to be useful. We can defeat this monster if we combine our powers. We can defeat this punk!".

"You have powers?", Rhett asked. "I’m surprised".

"Of course", the man said. "I’m a warrior myself. I was a knight at the slayer’s domain, a knight of the gargoyle slayers".

Rhett was surprised. A knight of the gargoyle slayers?, he wanted to ask questions but he realized there seemed to be no time.

And so he only nodded in the positive. Ready to fight.

"Then ok pal", said the man, a spark of hope, beaming out of his face. "Let’s defeat this damn TAGNOK therret beast!".

The man and Rhett positioned themselves into fighting poses. The man, with his almost wrinkled face, bald head and his little stubble had a look of hope on his face.

Rhett too had a look of hope but his wasn’t that vibrant. Nonetheless, it was a sign of hope sign. TAGNOK was breathing hard now and was seriously furious.

"Whatcha guys think you’re doing heh?", the beast asked. "No need to be brave. I’ll have to bust your bubble. After I’m gon’ smash all your teeths outta your mouth. In any world you’ll be in or reincarnated into, you’ll put some respect on my name, you pipe skull!".

Rhett took a deep breath and with that, he stepped forward in a run, the man behind him and soon overtaking him to the front, his eyes almost closed.

Rhett ducked a punch, slid down when he saw and kicked and moved farther to the left, the man taking the right. He ran with bated breaths, expecting a punch and yet dodging it. Same with the man, he anticipated a move of strike from the beast but yet dodged it, dreading an outrage.

TAGNOK suddenly halted his moves and closed his eyes, startling Rhett and the man who exchanged puzzled glances.

"Rim..., rim..., rim..., rim..., rim..., rim...", TAGNOK said slowly, like an incantation. "Rim..., rim..., rim..., rim...,".

Rhett and the man were getting scared now, especially when the wind started to twirl and swirl. Rhett hated this to the peak. It always led to something, it was an act he dreaded at a time of peril as this.

Suddenly with a great outcry the beast screamed: "UNLEASH!".
