Chapter 58: Riding the desert dragons
Chapter 58: Riding the desert dragons
Haicor coughed and put her hand on her chest, looking downwards. Dhamsel stood up from where she had earlier ducked and looking at the scene of dragons, she smiled and sighed, very much relieved.
Rhett walked slowly over to the dragons, his footsteps sounding like the slow rhythmic beats of a drum. The dragons stared blankly at him and he looked at the old knight and said:
"They won’t cause any harm right?".
"They’re sort of tamed now, so they’re harmless", the old knight said.
Rhett wanted to speak again but the old knight continued:
"But they’re calmness and submissive nature ought to be off them in about two hours, so I’d advise we use them well and fast and let them be. Or else they’ll kill us all!".
Rhett furrowed his eyebrow. "Gritty".
The old knight nodded in the affirmative and added:
"Indeed".
"Then we need to get on them quickly and get out of here", Rhett said. "Two hours to me seems to be short because we still have to pass the monster lands and kill the beasts there".
Ash said; "It’s no longer a must you face the monsters there since we’ve already summoned a dragon. I think we just dash past and they won’t be able to get us since we’re in the air".
The dragon slayers agreed. What Ash had said sounded very wise and Rhett even agreed with a nod, stroking his beardless chin.
_________
And so they were all aboard the dragons and they were plunged into the skies.
"Since we have no ropes let’s control them with our hands, we just move them by the neck where we want to", Rhett said.
They all nodded in the affirmative. Their faces forward, determined and brave. The wind dashed past them, with a hurtling sound. It seemed the dragons were very fast. Well that was reality though, their swift motion looked exceptional and if anyone from downwards watched them, they would think it were brown jets tearing through the clouds.
Rhett held his breath and released it occasionally.
They couldn’t actually see anything. The only thing they saw were blurs, blurry things. Things moved so fast past them by the way and they couldn’t actually catch anything from their surroundings.
The coolness that came from the wind blew on their faces and they seemed to like that. Ash particularly liked that. He even moved his neck occasionally at times so the soothing breeze could meet him. At one point he even opened his mouth to let it cool it but the stares he got made him stop.
Rhett gripped the neck of his dragon gently, he wouldn’t want to strangle it. He seemed, with time, to slow the pace of his dragon and eventually the pace of all the dragons as the other ones followed his dragon’s move.
Now they could see their surroundings. Facing them and looking tiny because it was farther ahead was a mountain, one that seemed to silhouette other mountains. Large trees stood by the side and Rhett, squinting his eyes, couldn’t quite make out what they looked like. Perhaps it was larger upfront than where they were.
The ground was dry and from the distance they were in the sky they couldn’t see the stones and pebbles that littered on it.
Soon by their left, they spotted a pond. Rhett was surprised by that but he seemed to make no comments, but he thought, what was a pond doing in the middle of a desert and the most shocking part, it had water.
They suddenly heard a loud ROAR!
And a three eyed creepy monster was out of it, shouting and raising its slimy hands at them.
Haicor was disgusted by the sight.
"Sheesh!"she examined with the nodding of her head backwards.
Soon, zombie looking monsters came out of nowhere and stood by the monster by the pond, all staring at the dragons flying slowly in the air and their riders, with scary looking eyes. They then became many, reaching the feat of about 30 monsters there. Large bulky ones with bloodshot eyes and ugly faces.
Ash suddenly sighed.
"Thank goodness we are riding this dragon, I’m sure many of us would have died".
Rhett only smiled and said no word but then Ash blurted:
"What of Daxer, I haven’t seen him, he died?".
Rhtt shrugged and looked downwards to the scene of the monsters.
"A demon murdered him".
The old knight shook his head and looked sadly into Rhett’s eyes.
"He was such a brave warrior", he said.
Rhett had to grin and said:
"But when you saw him not coming back with me, why didn’t You ask? I mean, you make me laugh. Now, he’s sounding like a brother to you".
Rhett cleared his throat.
The old knight shrugged. "Well, not only him died by the way, so yeah, mourning time is over".
Rhett grinned again, he wasn’t going to tell them he had tried to kill him. And that he, Rhett watched a demon tear him pieces. Well, he decided some things were better left untold and that was exactly what he was going to do now, he wasn’t going to even tell Ash.
Rhett slowly increased the pace of the dragons; it seemed unnoticeable and then they were out of the place where monsters were filled.
"That was obviously the monster lands", Ash said.
"Apparently", Rhett said.
"Our luck is that we have these dragons because I don’t think we can survive passing there".
_____
They soon arrived at a place that was filled with golden grasses. Passing by it, they just opened their mouths in shock and awe. The scene looked marvelous to them. Nothing else was there, just golden grasses.
No one talked, they just stared, in awe at the sight. But Rhett found it too good to be true. Weren’t they supposed to be passing a dangerous and life snatching place, why were they in such a glorious place.
Rhett wasn’t used to this sort of scenery, well , that was since he became king and since his unsuccessful travels as King.
As if to approve to his doubt of the golden scenery (which it was certainly approving now), Rhett heard a voice, well, they all heard a voice:
[TO BE ALLOWED FREEDOM TO PASS THIS PLACE, ONE OF YOU MUST DIE]
