I slayed an Ice dragon and now I'm King of the dragon slayers -
Chapter 50: The solution
Chapter 50: The solution
The wind bolstered the words out of his mouth he had wanted to say, it was his wish by the way, but coming out, it sounded like something done reluctantly.
Daxer could only watch his lips open and he squinted his eyes as Rhett spat it out.
What was it?.
"We harness the soul of the soul eater. It is dead, so I suggest we sneak and enter into the cloudy part of its body, getting its soul shard and using it to sort of level up to defeat the rest of its kind".
Daxer stroked his beards.
"But how do I level up, apparently, only you can, so how do I then level up".
Rhett looked at Daxer, his face carrying a sort of disdain.
"Silly!", he said. "You don’t level up, I do. I carry the slayer hex as I’m King of the dragon slayers, you don’t".
Daxer nodded his head and looked up now.
"Oh!", he said. "I get what you’re saying, I get it now".
Rhett looked at Daxer in disbelief.
’C’mon, just a few minutes ago you were manly and brave, but now, you’re acting like a fish out of water in a desert, his brain dried by the scorching sun’, Rhett thought, looking at Daxer and shaking his head.
Rhett stood up now from where he had sat before and said to Daxer:
"Cover me while I go undercover, right?".
"Right!", Daxer said fiercely, nodding his head in the affirmative.
And so they embarked on the short journey. The plan was simple by the way, they get to the corpse of the dead shadow monster (the soul eater) without being seen.
They bent low as they walked over to the beast. To Rhett, it felt as though they were crawling. The place was hot and the wind wasn’t different as it blew against their skin.
Rhett gripped the sword in his hands very tightly, like their survival in this walk depended on it. Daxer’s role seemed to be a blanket. He was to cover Rhett until they reached to the other side, which was where the monster was.
Ash and Haicor were now hidden beside the tower and Rhett, seeing them, almost waved. It seemed that Ash saw him because he saw, although from the distance they were, they looked tiny to him.
He ignored the wave and looked forward, noting that they were about ten footsteps from where the monster layed.
The soul eaters were killing more dragon slayers and some were even running away to safety, to get away from the massacre. Rhett noticed that the soul eaters stopped chasing the remaining dragon slayers and were now busy eating the corpses of the dead ones.
’Nasty’, Rhett thought.
Infact, he almost puked. The blood of the soul eaters mixed with the salivary substance drooling from their maw made Rhett’s stomach turn upside down.
That was so gross it made the mere thought, while closing his eyes, unbearable. He had to stop for a certain moment to digest the feeling and let it out of his body system.
Finally, with a big lunge forward, they were facing the dead gigantic corpse of the soul eater. It reeked greatly and this time Rhett had to puke. This was nauseating to the peak!.
Daxer quickly pulled away from him, the sight making him almost feel grossed out. But he refrained from doing so as this was a royal sight- a damn royal puke!.
Rhett used the back of his hands to clean his mouth, Daxer asking:
"Are you okay m’lord?".
"Yes!"Rhett shot at him, now holding his stomach and getting rid of the dizziness that he was now feeling.
Soon, they both were facing forward, the smell of the creature disturbing Rhett but to Daxer, it was nothing. He was even thinking that Rhett wouldn’t be able to go inside the creature because he was sick of bad smells.
He finally voiced that out though:
"Are you sure you’re going to be able to survive when you enter into the foggy body of this monster".
Rhett looked at him, spite almost in his face.
"What do you take me for?, I’m no piece of shit!, I’ll be able to come out alive, you just watch and see".
Daxer shrugged. "Take no offense in my words m’lord, I was only trying to be helpful".
Rhett stretched out his hand and offered him a handshake, the sword still firmly clutched in the other.
Daxer took it in glee, his face evincing it.
"You’re king for now until I come out", he said.
Daxer felt thrilled hearing that, and that he almost wished Rhett would never come out.
"I will make you proud", he said, bowing slightly to Rhett who returned that with a thumbs up. He faced the body of the dead monster in front of him now, how would he enter?. He looked at the body and examined the components making up of it. Stretching his hand forward and waving it across the soul eater’s hand, he noticed that it was foggy.
So his earlier thought was now affirmed. The monster was made of foggy elements, the texture cloudy. He would have further reasoned in this aspect but he was no scientific genius so he would just halt here. He wasn’t even good at calculations. If he was a smartass, he would have definitely identified the components and how to use it and blah... blah... blah.
So what was he going to do now, noting his finding(or more of a confirmation to an earlier precision).
He was going to go into the creature then, not necessarily through its mouth, he could just go through the belly or right through its hand, as that was what was facing him.
Daxer watched him brood, he stroked his beards and just as he was about to ask him what was the problem, Rhett had entered into the soul eater through its hand.
Rhett struggled into it though. The texture of skin of the creature felt like cotton and it was like he was cutting into it as he passed through.
Daxer gaped and soon closed his mouth, staring at the place Rhett just went through.
Rhett, pausing and trying to find a way to stop inhaling the very bad smell the body of the monster carried, just stood, rooted to the stop.
All he saw was darkness.
