Chapter 46: Leaving Shaiiyeru

Rhett felt traumatized hearing those words. His mind raced towards finishing lines of possible answers but he couldn’t conclude on one.

"The question is, are any of the dragon slayers still alive", Rhett asked and as he did so, he felt an excruciating pain all over his body.

And then..

...the voice of Seer.

"[YES, THEY ARE STILL ALIVE. ONLY NOW THEY ARE PRISONERS OF THE GHOST SLAYERS. I’D ADVISE YOU CHANGE PLANS AND HEAD STRAIGHT TO THE GHOST SLAYERS KINGDOM AND SAVE THEM. GOOD LUCK!]".

And then the pain was gone and Rhett shook his head sideways. Now, he was only dizzy.

"That’s a lot of work on you if you’ve got many prophecies for you to fulfill", Haicor said and closed the book, looking at it one more time before hiding it in the inner pocket of her jacket.

The name of the book was actually; {THE HISTORY OF SHAIIYERU AND THE POSSIBLE FUTURE}.

Haicor had always looked to read novels and literature in general and now seeing a book of prophecy and incredible history, she was very thrilled to be reading it.

She had planned now to read it on their journey to the ghost slayers kingdom or wherever Rhett said they would go. She would actually use something to hide the book cover, so others don’t know, especially the knights and guards, what she’s reading.

Ash looked at Rhett. "The Seer. That’s shocking. So they are still alive. Thank the gods!, the dragon slayers are still alive".

Rhett shrugged. "I doubt if the guards will be", he said, trying to catch his breath and resume breathing normally again.

The bulls made a grunting sound and when Rhett, Ash and Haicor looked at them inquiring. That returned it with an indifferent gaze.

"We honestly need a pragmatic approach to this", Ash said. "The ghost slayers are, to me personally, the strongest slayers. They possess great powers and they have a great defence line. If we go after them and something goes wrong, the dragon slayers with them will be completely killed and I know we don’t want something like that to happen".

"So what do you intend we do" Rhett asked.

"We infiltrate into their kingdom, sort of by the way. I honestly don’t have a plan of how we are going to do that but I think it’s the best idea. We get to know their weaknesses, their strongest and most reliable means of defense and then-", Ash paused and inhaled. "We pounce, we capitalize on that and use it against them. To me, that is the best way to get them".

Rhett squinted his eyes and stroked his beardless chin. Now, they heard sounds of horses and turning their heads to the direction, they saw guards, holding the ropes tied to them and pulling them towards their direction.

Rhett was about to speak when he heard more noises and then he saw all the citizens of the kingdom on horses, coming their way. They doubled themselves on the horses, so as to make space. Some sat three on a horse, some sat two, some sat one, while some sat four. The people that actually sat four were slender people and almost resembling children so it was easier for them to fit.

Morcel ran over to Rhett and bowed slightly in courtesy.

"All done m’lord", he said. "We are now ready to go".

Rhett nodded and waved his hands for him to leave.

"Thank you Morcel", he said as Morcel walked over to a horse and climbed on it, a sword now in his hands.

Rhett turned to Ash.

"In my opinion, we can’t leave this place like this. Adventurers or passerbys may pass through this place and want to check around and find something".

Ash looked bemused. "So what do you suggest m’lord".

"We raze it!, we burn it to ashes!", Rhett said on top of his voice.

Morcel heard that and almost gasped.

Well, everyone heard that and frankly, they weren’t that surprised as Morcel wanted to be. I mean, Rhett and done worse. He had slayed their king right in their faces. Slaying their king or burning their former kingdom to ashes, which was worse. They knew the answer.

The guard whom Rhett had been taking too that had suggested they spend the night here came down from his horse and walked over to him.

"Should I set the kingdom ablaze?", he asked.

Rhett’s face was stern. "Of course, set the damn place ablaze. I want everything clothed in ashes, I want nothing remaining".

The guard bowed. "Your command shall be well executed m’lord".

With that, he turned back and walked over to the horses. Signalling for some guards to get down and assist him in getting things to set the kingdom ablaze.

Rhett watched them, as they came off their horses and scurried far away from his sight, to do what he had bidded. He watched with a stern, one to him, it seemed he was forcing. Was he getting too ruthless?, he had never killed anything back on earth but now, here in the slayer’s domain, he had slayed so many beings he had lost count.

He had been stubborn when he was young, he knew. And he always defied the orders of his mother so he was sent to leave with his grandfather. And standing here now and reminiscing on those moments, he smiled. Perhaps, he was glad he had been stubborn, because that was helping him now, his stubbornness.

The sounds of footfalls interrupted his thoughts and when he looked to his right, where the guards had followed when they had gone to get the items to burn the kingdoms, he saw them, running to his direction. On their hands were brittle looking bottles made of glass. He also noticed, with the help of the squinting of his eyes, things that looked like matchsticks on their hands.

Rhett walked to a horse and entered it and signalled for Ash and Haicor to do the same to a horse that no one was sitting upon.

Ash sat on the horse and helped Haicor onto it. Rhett looked back and saw Dhamsel on a horse, even though not in chains, she was guarded by guards on two horses who stood by her sides. The horse she was on was with a guard who was obviously the rider.

Rhett nodded and faced forward, she looked safe to him.

And then, he led them to the gate which was wide open. Getting out of it they paused and watched, with indifferent gazes, as the guards poured the bottles of fuel all around the kingdom and walking out of the gate, they lit the match sticks and threw them on a spot where the fuel was poured upon.

And then, in a split second. The kingdom was silhouetted in fire.
