I slayed an Ice dragon and now I'm King of the dragon slayers -
Chapter 45: A Shocking discovery
Chapter 45: A Shocking discovery
Rhett sat in a wooden chair beside the tower, studying the map on his hands. He had learnt that it was not complete and he wished he could get the complete map so that he could have prep time. That is preparing on what next to do when knowing he’d be passing a dangerous route or trying to find an alternative.
His mouth was dry and he almost requested a drink. But the effort of yelling for a guard made him not to. He was alone now because Ash and Haicor had gone to find some weapons at the building he had prepared to slay the Ember dragon.
His chances were precarious, he wasn’t all powerful and mighty and knowing that he was not made sigh. He had boasted that he was, but actually, he was not. He thought about the Seer, since he slayed the Ember dragon, he hadn’t heard from the voice and he was wondering why actually. Didn’t it say that Slayerious saw some potential in it?. He shrugged, one couldn’t guess the ways of an entity and with the Seer, it was worse, it was totally unpredictable.
The sound of wheels brought him out from his thoughts and looking to his left, he saw wagons, a bit rusty in appearance, being pulled by a creature that looked like a bull.
He stood up and folding the map and putting it in his pockets, he stared at the sight. It was four in number actually, with weapons and food stuff on them. Ash was coming from the back, his face indifferent actually, an axe clutched in his right hand. Arriving to where Rhett was, he swinged it and smiled:
"Will be great for chopping off the heads of monsters".
Rhett returned the smile.
"But it can’t chop the heads of shadow monsters?".
Ash laughed. "I don’t think so. They are shadow monsters so basically they are made up of dark cloud-ish stuff. I might be mistaken but that is how I remember them to look like".
Rhett nodded in the affirmative, like someone that was digesting the information and planning to take it to great use.
Ash looked him over and burst into laughter.
"Your clothing makes you appear sophisticated. I never knew the slayer hex granted one clothing".
Rhett grinned, an act that was the outcome of an intended laugh.
"It does apparently, oh, I’m going to wear this forever".
The wagons halted as the bulls were beaten with whips from the guards controlling them. Rhett was fascinated by their faces. No matter how hard a bull or even a cow is beaten, it never shows its emotions. He smiled, that was the opposite of humans actually who would whine and shout and exclaim like they were dying.
"These are the wagons carrying the weapons m’lord", a guard said, pointing towards them.
"Good", Rhett said. "But we’ve got to be faster". He looked at the sky.
"By my guess, evening is approaching and I’d want us to cover quite a distance before nighttime approaches".
The guard bowed slightly. "We’re trying our best to be fast. Or should we pass the night here and head tomorrow?".
Rhett shook his head sideways repeatedly. "No, no, not at all. That will just be time wasting. We’ve got no time to lose".
The guard bowed and turned to leave, adding:
"I’ll go see if I can quicken the effects".
"Ok then", Rhett said and turned to face Ash who was looking at him with an intriguing face.
"I’m really surprised how they accepted you as their king so easily. It baffles me and leaves me in shock. I mean, didn’t they like him?", Ash said.
"Apparently they don’t", Rhett said and laughed. "Please pardon my constant use of the word ’Apparently’, it’s recently clinged to my tongue and won’t seem to fall off".
Ash only nodded. "Oh- k".
Rhett continued: "I think his actions towards them were not the type they’d have liked to adhere to. Come to think of it, I attack a village, rip their kingdom apart and they still like me being their king?I mean, to me, this isn’t normal".
Ash said; "Well, you didn’t technically rip their kingdom apart. He did. But I think they saw some traits of leadership in you and slaying an Ember dragon?, you made an impact".
"I see", Rhett said.
Just then, they heard running footsteps from their sides, turning to look, they saw that it was only Haicor, breathing hard, a book in her hands.
They paused and watched her come closer to them, opening the book in her hand and flipping through the pages. She eventually stopped at a page, page 57 to be precise and stood in the middle, urging them to read it.
Ash read, out loud, but almost a whisper:
"The legend of shaiiyeru says that a young warrior shall come and slay a dragon, an Ember or a stone dragon. And then, he shall go on to defeat the current king and take shaiiyeru out of their current state to freedom. And it shall happen as written by The forseer".
Rhett held his breath the whole time, he exchanged glances with Ash and Haicor and then with the book.
"Another prophecy?", he asked Rhett.
"As you heard m’lord. Frankly this is spooking me out".
Haicor stepped forward and got out of their middle, her face a grimace mixed with glee.
"They must know of the prophecy", she said, her white teeth showing as she smiled.
"Apparently they must", Rhett said. Almost smiling because he had used the word ’Apparently’ again.
He continued; "I thought slaying the ice dragon was the only prophecy I would have to fulfill. I thought I had fulfilled it all".
Ash sighed. "So the reason they let you rule them is because they know that one day you’ll come".
"But didn’t king vongarth know", Haicor said. "I bet he didn’t. If he had, he wouldn’t have told Rhett to slay the Ember dragon".
"So what does this now lead to?", Rhett asked.
Haicor opened the book and read;
"But this is only the second in many prophecies that he will fulfill".
