Chapter 42: A Duel of kings [2]
Ash could not believe his eyes. Rhett had just been thrust into the side of his belly by king vongarth’s sword.
King vongarth immediately stood up and walking towards the crowd of Knights and facing it, he shouted:
"Who’s your king now!".
The crowd remained silent as they stared at Rhett who, still on the ground, blood was drooling from his mouth. It dropped slowly on the ground and Haicor, the sight making her to cry, shouted:
"No!".
Ash ran over to Rhett and held him by the jaw.
"M’lord, don’t die, we’re doomed if you do".
Rhett looked at Ash in the eyes and breathed hard, not saying a word.
"I won’t die", he said, now holding his stomach, touching the place where the sword had been thrust into.
"You’re dead m’lord", Ash said, sympathy evident in his eyes.
"I’m -, I’m-, I’m", Rhett stuttered.
King vongarth suddenly walked briskly over to where they were and gave Ash a kick by his buttocks, falling him over and making him land with his face on the floor.
"Get out old man", he said, bending beside Rhett. "You gave me a real headache, I’ll give you that, you ruined my chance of attaining the immortal rank. And now, you’re going to die as my revenge for your vile deed".
Rhett said no word, he only stared into the eyes of king vongarth, breathing hard, his face blank one didn’t know his emotion. One didn’t know if it was regretful or he was ashamed or afraid or even plotting something. All one could see was indifferentness, one that would make you hurt him the more.
"When you go to the underworld, do well to greet hades for me, tell him that I’ll never be coming there, since I must become immortal!", king vongarth said and stretched his hands for the sword in Rhett’s belly. His aim was to push it more and twist it. He was sure that would completely kill Rhett.
He held it and Ash, still trying to get up, watched with hopelessness. His king was good as gone and after that, what would life be worth to him.
Rhett suddenly gripped king vongarth hand who stared at him in bewilderment. Before he could utter a word or try to resist it, Rhett had pushed it back, still holding it. King vongarth looked at his hand and Rhett whistled, catching his attention, making him look at his face. With a plunge of his head forward, Rhett had hit King vongarth with his head on his forehead.
King vongarth staggered backwards, almost off him. He shook his head sideways, trying to get rid of the seething pain that was surging in his brain. Rhett hit him again by the head and now he fell on the floor.
Rhett suddenly stood, like he had been strengthened by the wind. He started to inflict punches on King vongarth, who, now weak. Couldn’t move his hands to block it with a block or anything at all. He just staggered backwards taking the punches from Rhett who didn’t slow down, he kept hammering it at King vongarth and then he made himself a spear and drove into his opponent. It seemed to be like his finishing move, going into opponents like a spear.
King vongarth rolled sideways, trying to dodge any further blow or attack. Rhett followed, the sword still into the side of his belly. He kept hammering his clenched fists on king vongarth’s face.
King vongarth stood up and Rhett moved back. He was feeling great pain and was only trying to subdue it by just thinking it wasn’t there, he wasn’t feeling it.
King vongarth ran at him now and he moved back, their hands colliding. Knights from the crowd had already thrown in two new swords and they both simultaneously picked them, gripping them tightly and lunging it at themselves.
Rhett now fell to his knees, the blood dripping from the wounded place on his belly was now plenty and he was slowly dying.
King vongarth paused, thinking it was deception, but when he saw his opponent was dying, he opened his teeth and slowly walked over to Rhett.
"The wound is sure deep, well I guess it’s the end, goodnight king Rhett, king of the dragon slayers".
King vongarth raised his sword upwards and bringing it downwards, he aimed it for Rhett’s neck who wasn’t even looking at the sword, he was looking at the sword in his belly.
The sword came down...
Rhett dived to his right, leaped in the air and with a loud voice he said:
"I will not die!".
A bolt of lightning cracked in the sky. Rhett looked upwards and seeing it, he gave out a loud piercing scream. And then...
Complete white.
The spectators, including king vongarth, saw just white, for a split second and then...
... a sword was in Rhett’s hand, a large and mighty looking sword.
It appeared to be in slow motion to the eyes of the spectators, Rhett caught it and then, the wind swirled around him, making his leaping in the air to be higher.
[YOU HAVE JUST BEEN AWARDED THE LIGHTNING SWORD]
Rhett heard an angelic voice, one only him heard, saying the above words.
He was coming down now from his mighty leap and heading in the direction of king vongarth who raised his two hands up, covering his eyes. The light seemed to have blinded them because he was just seeing only a white bright light. Or perhaps it was just the light, maybe he wasn’t blind, maybe the light was so bright he only saw it and nothing else.
Well all those were none of Rhett’s business. He raised the lightning sword in his hands higher above his head and then with all the strength in him, he aimed it for the head of king vongarth who couldn’t see anything apart from a bright light.
SLIITT!.
The glorious sound of steel on flesh.
King vongarth’s head was off his head and flying to the ground.
The crowd gasped in shock. Dhamsel was off the terrace running down, "Father!", escaping from her mouth.
King vongarth head had fallen to the ground and Rhett could only look at it in satisfaction. And then he heard the angelic voice he had heard when receiving the lightning sword:
