I Refused To Be Reincarnated -
Chapter 553: Farewell to the Valley
Chapter 553: Farewell to the Valley
The sun rose and fell as the trees lost their leaves. Snow covered the valley in a white blanket before nature proved its eternal resilience. Fresh plants and leaves sprouted as the sun chased the winter’s icy cold, reminding everyone that a vibrant hope would always emerge in this endless cycle of renewal.
Sitting by the mountain’s edge, Adam’s sigh merged with the spring wind ruffling his dark and blue robes. He had experienced this cycle seven times already. Yet, despite the frustrating stagnation and the cow’s overbearing manners, his blue eyes flashed with sadness.
"Come on! We’re leaving!"
Misha’s eager voice echoed from behind.
He turned to gaze at the now nine-year-old-looking girl. Her beautiful white robes danced with each movement, the golden embroidery mirroring her eyes and hair sparkling under the morning sun.
Her smile shone brighter than the sun as she carried a bag wafting the enticing scent of packed food—the food they would need on their trip to the famed Jin Long sect.
Biting his lips, he gazed at the beautiful scenery one last time before his seven-year-old body rose to its feet. His sky-blue hair danced as he moved to her and the four guardians waiting for him.
The cow smirked at him, mischief and joy dancing in her eyes.
"Finally the big day, huh? I know you’ve been waiting for it for a while, so why the long face?" She lunged and hugged him gently. "Don’t tell me you’ll miss us after all the troublesome remarks you hurled at our faces."
Despite the sensation of her amble chest pressing on his firm torso, he nodded.
Without knowing when or how, their relationship evolved.
From one born out of a deal, he came to like these magical beasts after they cared and taught him so much.
Yet, he would leave them today.
Noticing his reaction, the cow patted his head tenderly.
"I’ll miss your sarcasm and funny pranks, too. But every bird needs to leave the nest."
The spider patted his shoulder.
"We’ll share a cup of my best spiritual wine when you return as an accomplished man in a few years." A smile broadened on his old lip as he chuckled. "I would have never thought you would become a better crafter than me in two brief years. Go! Show the cultivator realm who’s the best."
He lowered his face, hiding his quivering lips as the serpent scratched his purple hair.
"Well... Your body naturally adapted to the poisons I fed you. Seriously! I almost died of shock when you downed a glass of deadly venom and just shrugged. The same goes for alchemy... I learned more from you than I taught you." His lips curled into a grin. "So, raise your head and tread your path fearlessly!"
Finally, the crane shrugged her high shoulders with elegance.
"You improved a lot, but your movements are still clumsy." Despite the harsh review, the corner of her lips curled upwards subtly as she nodded. "Continue to improve, and don’t forget: the wind can be as fierce as a typhoon and as calm as a lake. Always adapt your movements to the situation."
With her words, the cow pulled back, kneeled, and raised his face with a finger to peer into his watery eyes.
"We helped you excavate your body’s full potential, but your efforts mattered the most." She placed her hand over her drumming heart, her voice a soft whisper. "I’m proud of you like a mother would be."
His chest tightened, and tears rolled down his cheeks as he lunged at her neck.
"I’ll never repay you enough for your care and teachings. Thank you."
After a minute of warm silence, he turned to the other three, clasped his hand, and bowed like a cultivator would.
"I consider you all a part of my family." His eyes narrowed into determined slits. "Wait for my return. I won’t just repair the spiritual vein. I’ll turn it into the realm’s best!"
They nodded at him, their confidant and gentle looks fueling him with more courage.
Meanwhile, Misha chuckled behind him and bowed as well.
"We had a lot of fun together, but... Let’s go! The world is calling for us!"
Without waiting for anyone to react and knowing Adam would drag his feet forever because he was just that attached to those he considered friends or family, she grabbed him by the hand and pulled him down the valley.
Heavy sighs escaped the guardians’ lips as they observed their blue and golden hair fluttering behind their bolting short figures.
The serpent broke the silence, his voice down and his eyes lowered to gaze at the ground.
"Don’t try to contact me. I’ll slumber for the next twenty years."
Somehow, the others shared his idea and shrugged.
That’s why they were against raising him. Just like when Lin Yao departed, the place lost its vibrance without their protegees’ presence.
Simultaneously, Adam looked back one last time, his heart beating with gratitude before he turned his head to Misha’s eager face.
"Thank you, big sis." He scratched the back of his neck. "You know me better than I know myself. No, it was always like that."
Misha smirked and winked at him.
"Of course I do!" Then, her face turned somber as she raised a concern that had plagued them for the past few years. "Is that demonic cleaver still roaring that you scammed him inside your soul sea?"
He rolled his eyes, his forehead veins throbbing at the mention of this stupid weapon.
"It never stops yapping. I don’t even want to go there anymore because of it." He clicked his tongue. "Is it my fault if his precious statue is still in the magic world’s fusion pool?"
With the warped time, seven years passed for them, but for the statue? Only four months, meaning that he didn’t break their deals. Yet, the weapon kept whispering in his ears that he had cheated it.
Misha tucked her fingers around her chin as they blurred by the village at the valley’s foot and continued to charge at the horizon.
"We’ll find a way to remove this parasite. If the sect has no solutions, we can try the mage order in the west in a few years."
He raised his thumb.
"Thought about it as well. But first..." His lips curled into a broad smirk. "We’ll become the best cultivators!"
With those words, he checked his new stats and passives, eager to put them to the test in this world.
