I Refused To Be Reincarnated -
Chapter 546: The Truth Revealed
Chapter 546: The Truth Revealed
His eyes trembled as he pushed the woman’s skin to distance himself and ponder the notification.
However, his baby’s hands sunk into her breast’s soft texture, forcing him to accept the situation despite the shame burning his cheeks.
With a deep inner sigh, he closed his eyes to escape the mound engulfing his vision and focused on the notification.
’Arun told us that consuming enough magical beast meat can increase stats. Is this what’s happening? Can I now train like Julius instead of relying on levels to become stronger?’
Since it had been like that since he woke up for the first time, he didn’t dwell on the matter too much, but stat points had repeatedly blocked him one way or another, especially intelligence.
With no way to absorb mana as a ghost, he had relied on potions. Yet, he lost that method after his dream place’s body’s destruction during Kwame’s ritual, leaving him stuck on the third tier.
’But now I can progress like everyone! I only need to train my body and absorb mana and Qi!’
His heart hastened in desire as more notifications resounded in his ears. On the fifth, he felt bloated with potent milk and pushed on the woman’s breast with urgency.
Catching the movements, she raised him before her face and peered into his sky-blue eyes before the corner of her lips rose subtly.
"You have an enormous appetite for your small body." She placed him back into the cradle and covered her chest.
Then, she sat on the ground, extending her legs comfortably, and continued.
"Tell me about your body and story. Is it a rare constitution Lin Yao developed?"
Lin Zhongguo’s ears perked up at the mention of his grandson. Eyes sparkling in anticipation, he grabbed a chair and rushed to sit with them. Yet, he remained silent, waiting to catch bits and pieces of the conversation through the woman’s reactions.
Meanwhile, Adam nodded, thankful that these people were more reasonable than the mages he had met in the past.
Until the sky darkened and the stars shone, he recounted his life as a ghost, starting with Gaston and how he got one of the bastard’s eyes. He continued with his adventure in Avaloria Frostpeak and how he got Thomas’ legs. Then, he told her about the third trial and Ignatius. Of course, he skipped the bitter part about Misha’s death and the dream place.
Finally, he told her about Triton’s tendons and Decarabia’s skeleton, taking extra time to explain the latter’s abilities.
With most of the materials out of the way, he started with the story Lin Yao had shared with them and his desperate search for his friend before recounting his last battle.
"He repelled four seventh-tier powerhouses and killed two of them single-handedly."
Noticing the faint hope sparkling in her eyes, he shook his head and spoke in a low tone.
"Someone no one ever wants to fight reinforced the surviving two and killed Lin Yao. As for his dan tian?" He rolled his shoulders. "It landed by me as I wished him goodbye. Maybe it was because of the blast or a final gift for my brother."
He saw the woman’s lips quiver and her eyes water as she placed her trembling hand on her hastening chest.
"That’s what happened to him..."
Tears rolled down her cheeks, tender memories of the boy she had educated and cared for resurfacing along his smiling face.
Then, her fists tightened, and she gritted her teeth in rage. Now that she knew how some shameless individuals ganged up on him, she wanted only one thing: to rip them to shreds!
She gritted her teeth, her cheeks trembling and her Qi flaring in the room for two minutes before she let out a frustrated exhale.
"Thank you for recounting the story, but you can stop now. I can tell you used those parts to forge a body combining magic, cultivation, bestial traits, and those bizarre demonic bones that immunise you against their horrible essence."
She pushed herself off the ground and turned, yet he noticed her slumped shoulders and trembling back.
"I’ll leave for today. But don’t worry, I’ll be back by tomorrow to feed you."
A heavy silence fell over the room as the door creaked shut behind her.
Meanwhile, Misha gazed at Adam, her eyes wide with wonder and concern. Slowly, she reached out, her fingers brushing against his cheek to feel the body he had created piece by piece before she hugged him gently and whispered in his ears.
"You never told me you were a ghost, nor all the dangers you faced before we met. I can’t imagine the ones you faced after, either. But you can be proud of everything you achieved." She pulled back, her warm smile brightening the room. "Even if you’re not, I’m!"
His chest tightened, and his lips curled into a genuine smile as the guilt deeply rooted in his heart after her tragic death in the tower began to melt with her encouragement.
"I’m glad you’re back... I missed you, and a part of me always blamed myself for your death. I-I’m glad to see you back."
Misha’s eyes softened as she touched Adam’s warm cheeks tenderly.
"I’m glad you’re here too. You’re the only person left who counts for me."
As they smiled at each other, sharing a moment of intimacy and mutual comfort, Lin Zhongguo remained seated, a hand covering his old forehead and his shoulders trembling as he hid his tears. Even if he couldn’t understand the baby, the woman’s reactions were enough to make him realise that his grandson died unjustly.
After a moment of lamenting, he took groggy steps under the darkening sky. He reached for the kitchen outside, filled a bowl of soup, and handed it to Misha once he returned.
Then, he collapsed on his bed and pulled the blankets over his pale face, too overwhelmed to eat or speak after his last hope of reuniting with his grandson evaporated.
