I Refused To Be Reincarnated
Chapter 539: The Hatching

Chapter 539: The Hatching

"Waa! Waa!"

He wanted to roar, to express his deep frustration, to punch and kick the air, or a few boulders to truly vent. But only a baby’s cries echoed through the verdant slopes as his fat limbs flailed out the soft fabric Luna offered him.

Yet, he was fuming inside, a raging torrent of desperate curses splitting his thoughts as his worries for his friends engulfed his mind for five minutes.

’I can’t do anything but pray for their safety and adapt to this new world like I did for the first.’

A sharp pain cut through his heart as he craned his big head to the side and scanned his surroundings.

The verdant vegetation sparkled a healthy green under the sun’s gentle rays. He saw tall trees sprouting from the rocky ground in a defiant attempt to reach for the vast blue sky.

Crooked saplings pushed out of the mountain’s white walls in the distance, covering what should have been barren with a veil of vitality.

A soft breeze carrying the scent of fresh soil ruffled his hair next as he heard wild beasts howl amidst the dense forest surrounding him.

His lips immediately snapped shut as cold sweat rolled down his temples.

’Are they magical beasts? Did my wailing attract them? Luna! Turn me back to a man before they devour me! Interface!’

A bright holographic window condensed before his constricted pupils. Wisps of green Qi and blue mana swirled on the borders in an enchanting dance he would have rated ten out of ten if not for the looming threat fast approaching him.

Heart almost bursting out of his chest, he observed his stats in confusion and shock.

After skimming through the familiar yet different panel, he gritted his toothless gums and flailed his hand through the window in frustration.

’Why are they so high, and why did my tier and levels reset?! This is a scam! I can’t escape with my undeveloped muscles, but I hope I can channel my mana at least, or I’m doomed!’

His eyes narrowed into slits as the ground trembled under the approaching beasts’ paws.

Soon, he saw a large pack of sixty wolves emerge from the forest. Their golden eyes shone with hunger as they landed on his sweating figure.

He snapped his eyes shut, screaming in his mind as he felt for his mana.

’Stupid Luna!’

His circuits roared to life like a living beast in his body, his mana heart pumping unlimited energy into his limbs before it emerged above him, shining a bright sky blue color mirroring his eyes and hair.

However, it did not take the arrowhead form he wanted and, instead, drizzled in the surroundings in a mystical show that caused the wolves to growl in surprise and anger.

Feeling threatened, the muffled noise of their wary paws echoed as they approached slowly.

Death loomed, despair gripping his heart in a tight clutch as he tried again without success.

DING

A sudden noise, unexpected and blasting his eardrums, resounded as the wolves entered striking range.

Simultaneously, bright lights danced by him before condensing into an oval object he had forgotten for the past two years as a line of text swirled before his eyes.

[Remaining time before hatching: 1 second]

’The egg I got after conquering the third trial!’ His ragged breath caught in his throat as a glimmer of hope pierced through the dark clouds covering his heart. ’It has to be a powerful beast! A dragonling or a hydra!’

As his thoughts rumbled, the countdown reached zero.

The shell cracked, the noise alerting the wolves. A sharp glint flashing in their eyes, they lunged at him to end one of the prey first before focusing on the bizarre egg.

’SHIT! COME OUT ALREADY!’

He roared as a pair of fists split the wind and shattered the shell.

"I’M BACK!"

A young girl’s voice reverberated as golden eyes more feral than the wolves’ shone on them. Golden hair swirled in the wind next as a primal pressure, seemingly encompassing the entire animal world, descended on the pack.

Their legs trembled, their instinct roaring to rush back to the forest. Yet some were already mid-air, a few centimeters away from devouring the baby.

"Not under my watch!"

Her short legs blurred, and the wind whistled as she reappeared before the hungry animals in a heartbeat. Then, her palm cleaved the win as she slapped them all to the ground.

BAM

Their heads exploded, bright blood drizzling on her two-year-old naked figure as she planted her fists on her hips and berated.

"Return to the forest before I kill you all!"

Strangely, the wolves seemed to understand her words. They lowered their heads in submission before ruffling the vegetation in their mad scramble. Even the alpha who had stood behind to supervise the pack trembled on its silent escape, a single feeling engulfing its thoughts: to never face this creature again.

Meanwhile, Adam’s pupils constricted as the girl patted her limbs to clean the sticky blood and turned towards him, his earlier fears replaced by a stunning shock.

Despite the baby fat covering her cheeks and her child’s appearance, he recognised her! How could he not when a part of her supervised his new body like an architect?

"Long time no see! Did you miss me?" She leaned forward, her natural scent filling his nostrils as she peered into his eyes. "Hee? You look so different, but we share the same smell now. More importantly, you’re a baby now! Hahaha."

His heart almost exploded, and tears rolled down his face as he outstretched his hand to touch her warm cheeks, not believing she was really back. Yet, her next words and smug grin couldn’t be faked.

"Anyway, how have you been doing, little Adam?"
