Chapter 413 - Chapter 413 Chapter 409 Fleeing in Distress

Chapter 413: Chapter 409: Fleeing in Distress Chapter 413: Chapter 409: Fleeing in Distress Fang Xiaocao followed Taotie’s guidance and looked toward the dune, yet there was nothing on it.

“Everyone be careful.”

Fang Xiaocao said in a deep voice.

“Princess Your Highness, let me go over and take a look.”

Taotie proposed, holding his knife.

Fang Xiaocao shook her head, “Don’t act rashly, be careful of traps.”

“Since he likes to play tricks, let him keep up his act. We’ll deal with soldiers that come and cover water with earth.”

Fang Xiaocao had no intention of letting anyone take risks.

Now that the enemy lay hidden while they were exposed, it was very easy to fall into a trap.

It was better to counteract motion with stillness.

“I agree with Princess Your Highness’s opinion.”

Tom nodded in agreement.

Seeing both Fang Xiaocao and Tom express such views, although Taotie was curious, he said no more.

“What do you think he’s trying to do with his flute playing?”

Fang Xiaocao asked with a frown.

“Playing tricks?”

“A strategy to exhaust the soldiers?”

Tom and Taotie said at the same time.

Fang Xiaocao shook her head, “It doesn’t seem like it…”

“He probably wouldn’t be that idle.”

What Tom and Taotie said made sense.

Yet Fang Xiaocao still vetoed it.

It wasn’t consistent with the backstage manipulator’s style of operation.

In Fang Xiaocao’s view, if the backstage manipulator did this, it must serve a purpose.

It couldn’t be just a simple prank.

“Aw, aw, aw!”

Just then, Brainless suddenly started shouting, scratching his ears and cheeks, appearing very anxious.

Brainless’s unusual behavior caught Fang Xiaocao’s attention.

Looking puzzledly at Brainless, she saw him staring at the ground in the distance.

Curious, Fang Xiaocao looked over.

Instantly, her scalp tingled.

Scorpions!

Countless desert scorpions.

At a rough glance, there were tens of thousands.

“Holy shit!”

Taotie exclaimed.

“Princess Your Highness, look over there.”

“All around us are scorpions.”

“They must have been drawn by the sound of the flute.”

Tom said hurriedly.

Upon hearing Tom’s words, Fang Xiaocao quickly scanned her surroundings, turning pale.

In sight was a dense mass, all scorpions of various sizes.

They surged powerfully, baring their fangs and brandishing their claws, like an army clad in armor, sweeping over like an avalanche or tsunami.

“Holy shit!”

“Princess Your Highness, we’re in grave danger!”

Taotie suddenly shouted in alarm.

Pointing to a spot to signal Fang Xiaocao to look.

Looking over, Fang Xiaocao felt darkness set in before her eyes.

Still scorpions.

This time it was those Giant Scorpions from before.

There were a total of six.

Each one was like a little tank.

“Retreat quickly!”

“Drive away, leave the supplies.”

Fang Xiaocao shouted.

So many scorpions, plus six monsters.

Who knew if they were poisonous.

A direct confrontation was clearly not practical.

Fang Xiaocao didn’t hesitate to choose retreat.

Supplies could be found again.

But one only had one life.

Taotie and Tom immediately sprang into action.

They jumped into the pickup and started the vehicle.

“Brainless, let’s go!”

Fang Xiaocao shouted at Brainless, hurried into the vehicle, and Brainless followed swiftly on her heels.

“Drive!”

Fang Xiaocao yelled.

Taotie nodded, pressed the accelerator, and the pickup truck’s engine roared as it sped away.

Tom, however, wasn’t in a rush. He glanced at the scorpion army drawing closer, quickly took out a bunch of Pokeballs, pressed the start button, and flung them across the camp.

Not until the scorpion army was upon him did Tom start the vehicle, crushing scorpions under the tires as he chased after Fang Xiaocao and the others.

Squish, squish–

The tires rolled over the scorpions, which immediately burst, emitting a terribly disgusting noise.

The pickup’s tires and body were covered with slime, emanating waves of foul odor.

Tom immediately rolled up the windows to prevent the disgusting mess from splattering inside the vehicle.

“Tom, why haven’t you caught up yet?”

Fang Xiaocao’s anxious voice came from the vehicle’s radio.

Tom smiled slightly and picked up the radio, “Princess Your Highness, don’t worry, I am fine. Just left them a little present, which took some time.”

Hearing Tom’s response, Fang Xiaocao inside Taotie’s vehicle breathed a sigh of relief, “Hurry up and catch up. We’ve lost a lot of supplies; we can’t rest anymore. Go straight to the vault, and if we find an oasis on the way, let’s replenish our fresh water first.”

“Roger!”

Tom’s voice came through the radio.

“I told you Old Tom was fine.”

The driving Taotie complained.

Fang Xiaocao gave Taotie a glare, “Just you talk too much, focus on driving.”

Taotie shrank his neck and stayed quiet.

Rumble, rumble–

At that moment, a loud noise erupted.

The earth seemed to tremble thrice.

Fang Xiaocao turned to look.

She saw flames and thick smoke rising into the sky from the direction of the camp.

“Ha ha ha, that’s so Tom.”

Taotie, looking through the rearview mirror, couldn’t help but laugh.

Beep, beep–

The sound of a car horn came.

Tom had caught up, driving behind them.

Taotie immediately slowed down to let Tom pass.

Tom accelerated past Taotie, taking the lead.

The two pickups, one in front of the other, raced under the scorching sun.

It felt like a giant oven here–stifling and hot. In the desert, fuel was a scarce resource, especially now that they had lost half their supplies. Taotie wanted to turn on the air conditioner several times but was stopped by Fang Xiaocao every time.

Fang Xiaocao picked up the vehicle radio, “Tom, is there an oasis nearby?”

“None!”

Tom’s answer was straightforward.

“Princess Your Highness, it’s too hot. I’m worried the engine might fail; we need to find a place for maintenance.”

Tom raised the most practical concern.

It was too hot; the engine could stall.

“Then let’s take a break.”

Although Fang Xiaocao was anxious, she understood that Tom’s concerns were valid–they couldn’t overexploit their resources.

If the engine failed, having lost even their camels, relying on their legs alone could truly mean death in the desert.

Receiving Fang Xiaocao’s approval, Tom no longer hesitated and immediately looked for a place to stop.

He found a dune with some shade and stopped the vehicle, with Taotie following close behind.

“Let’s check our supplies first.”

As soon as she got out of the car, Fang Xiaocao ordered.

Tom nodded and went to inventory the supplies.

“Taotie, check the vehicle.”

“See if there’s any damage.”

Fang Xiaocao commanded Taotie.

Now that they had even lost their tents, these two vehicles were not only means of transportation but also their haven, needing to serve the purpose of tents.

“Yes!”

Taotie responded and went to inspect the vehicle.

Fang Xiaocao sat in the shade, her expression fluctuating. In her heart, she silently cursed the perpetrator’s ancestors repeatedly, “You damned culprit, just you wait, I’ll dig you out sooner or later.”

While cursing, a bold plan began to take shape in Fang Xiaocao’s mind.

Just as Tom finished checking the supplies and was about to help Taotie with the vehicle maintenance, Fang Xiaocao signaled to Tom, “Tom, come here.”

Hearing this, Tom walked over.

“Princess Your Highness, what are your orders?”

Tom asked solemnly.

“Lean in closer.”

Fang Xiaocao said with a smile.

Tom hesitated for a moment, then obediently sat beside Fang Xiaocao, leaning in.

Fang Xiaocao whispered into Tom’s ear. His expression went through several changes–from astonishment to shock, ending with a surprised look toward Fang Xiaocao…
