Chapter 412 - Chapter 412 Chapter 408 The Sound of the Flute

Chapter 412: Chapter 408: The Sound of the Flute Chapter 412: Chapter 408: The Sound of the Flute “Miss Hummingbird, you really have to take good care of my father-in-law, don’t lose him, okay? If my wife loses her temper, she can be really fierce.”

Taotie begged pitifully.

Hummingbird smiled awkwardly, “Don’t worry, I’ll look after… your father-in-law.”

Having received Hummingbird’s assurance, Taotie grabbed his father-in-law again, “Father-in-law, you really must listen to Miss Hummingbird, don’t wander off and don’t make her mad…”

“Ouch…”

“My ears…”

“Hurt, it’s falling off, it’s going to fall off…”

Fang Xiaocao couldn’t stand it anymore, she jumped up, grabbed Taotie’s ear, and dragged him off toward the distance, “Aren’t you done yet? It’s not like you’re sending your father-in-law to his death. Can’t you man up a bit? I never saw it coming that you, with your thick eyebrows and big eyes, also had the potential to play the fool…”

Xiaocao kept scolding while they walked.

Regardless of Taotie’s wails, she forcefully dragged him away for more than ten meters before letting go.

“Attention!”

Xiaocao commanded.

Taotie, rubbing his ears, looked aggrieved.

But he obediently stood at attention.

“Stay here, don’t move.”

“This is an order!”

Xiaocao said each word deliberately as she stared at Taotie, who was eager to charge forward to the vehicle to bid a tearful farewell to his father-in-law as the dutiful son-in-law he wanted to be.

Taotie looked pitifully at Xiaocao.

The picture of innocence.

“Don’t move!”

“I’ll twist your ear off if you do.”

Xiaocao threatened before turning to walk over to Hummingbird.

“You must be very careful on the road.”

Xiaocao said with a serious tone.

Hummingbird nodded, “I will be.”

Xiaocao smiled, embraced Feng Nan, and whispered into her ear, “Unhappy is as strong as Taotie and possesses the intuition and keenness of wild beasts; you can fully trust him. You don’t need to set up a Sentinel when resting, and if you encounter any threat to your life, let him take you away. Don’t worry about the others.”

After finishing, Xiaocao let go of Hummingbird and gave her a slight smile, “Remember that?”

Hummingbird nodded, “I remember.”

“That’s good, let’s set off then.”

“Princess Your Highness, Hummingbird is taking her leave.”

After bidding farewell to Xiaocao, Hummingbird turned, boarded the vehicle, and the predatory bird pickup roared to life, pulling away from the camp, followed by two off-road vehicles.

As Xiaocao watched Hummingbird’s convoy fade into the distance, she withdrew her gaze, looked at the largely emptied camp and said, “Let’s set off too.”

“Yes!”

Tom and Taotie responded in unison, setting an unnecessary tent ablaze, and the four of them, with two vehicles full of supplies, embarked once again on their journey to unearth Gold Bricks.

With Tom’s high-tech gadgets, there was no more need for Xiaocao and her companions to worry about getting lost or frequently getting out of the car to check their bearings, significantly speeding up their travel.

“Tom, how much farther is it to our destination, and how long will it take us to get there?”

Xiaocao asked while gnawing on some jerky in the car.

Tom glanced at the terminal’s position and replied, “If all goes well, we should reach the Pawnshop’s Desert Vault in two days.”

Xiaocao nodded, “That’s pretty quick.”

“I’m so excited to see all that Gold.”

“I can almost hear it calling my name.”

Xiaocao said with a laugh.

Tom laughed, “I’m looking forward to it too.”

The two pickups made their way through the Desert Sea.

Kicking up clouds of yellow sand.

When the sun was high in the sky, nearing noon, Tom found a spot surrounded by sand dunes on three sides and stopped the car, “Princess Your Highness, let’s set up camp and rest here.”

Xiaocao nodded, “Agreed.”

The vehicles came to a halt, and they got out of the car.

Taotie and Tom began setting up the tents.

Brainless ran around aimlessly, patrolling the campsite.

Xiaocao was in charge of cooking.

An hour later, the three of them sat around the stove, sipping meaty broth and nibbling on crushed biscuits. Although they occasionally got a mouthful of yellow sand, it was still quite enjoyable.

Looking at the sulky Taotie, Xiaocao chuckled, “Dummy, missing your father-in-law again?”

Taotie smirked: “I’m afraid he’ll get lost.”

“That old man always liked to run around wildly, causing worry. Now that he’s turned into a Brainless, he’s even more fond of scampering about, annoying.”

As if understanding that ‘Brainless’ wasn’t a compliment, Brainless bared his teeth and growled at Taotie a few times.

Taotie rolled his eyes: “Wasn’t talking about you.”

“Ha ha ha…”

Xiaocao laughed.

After a simple lunch, Xiaocao stretched languidly and headed towards the tent: “Brainless, you’re on guard duty. You two, don’t sleep too deeply. We’ll continue our journey after the sun sets.”

With that, Xiaocao delved into the tent.

The scorching sun hung high.

Baking the Desert Sea.

The desert at noon could kill a person with its heat.

The air seemed to twist with the baking.

Xiaocao’s campsite lay in silent stillness.

Three tents formed a triangle.

Two pickup trucks blocked the entrance to the campsite.

Dunes on three sides formed a natural wall, enough to deter the average person.

Brainless lazily sprawled under a truck, acting as the watchful Sentinel.

But he failed to notice a mysterious figure in a Black Robe on top of a dune, who had appeared at some point and was overlooking the camp from his high vantage point.

The Black-robed Person’s gaze fixed coldly on the camp: “Heh, to think you saw through Chen Xiao, and broke the Breeding Technique on those people. I’ve underestimated you. But in the end, you’re young, letting a fish slip through the net. It’s good that you’re separated; I can pick you off one by one. While I bask in the sun, you think you can just sleep in the tent?”

The Black-robed Person’s voice was hoarse as if two pieces of sandpaper were rubbing together.

The Black-robed Person chuckled darkly as he took out a Bone Flute.

The next second!

A strange flute sound wafted through the air.

Brainless, lying under the truck, lifted his head in confusion, listening intently to locate the source of the weird sound.

After listening for a moment, Brainless clambered out from under the truck, on all fours, looking up in search of the flute sound, but the Black-robed Person had already concealed himself behind the dune, invisible to the naked eye.

Brainless, puzzled, scratched his head.

The strange sound made him very uncomfortable.

Something felt ominously wrong.

Like danger was imminent.

Soon, both Tom and Taotie were roused from sleep, rushing out of their tents, their eyes vigilantly scanning for the source of the sound.

“Tom, go and wake the princess,” said Taotie in a deep voice.

“This flute sound is strange.”

“Okay.”

Tom replied and ran towards Xiaocao’s tent.

Clang–

Taotie drew his long sword, holding it in hand.

He glanced at Brainless.

Brainless had already locked onto the dune where the Black-robed Person was hiding.

Taotie looked towards that same dune as well.

His expression showed eagerness.

Xiaocao followed Tom running out: “Where is that flute sound coming from?”

Taotie shook his head: “Brainless has been staring at that dune the whole time; the person should be hiding over there.”
