I Really Didn’t Mean to Play Go!
Chapter 37: "Provocative Go, I'll Crush You!"

"Why the h*** don't I know how to play Go?! Why?!"

Zhou De's anguished cry rang out, as if his heart had been ripped apart. He was convinced that Wu Zhixuan added Yu Shao on WeChat because Yu Shao was great at Go. For the first time, Zhou De hated himself for not knowing how to play.

"Traitor! Bro, you were hiding this from me all along? Not only do you play Go, but you’re actually good at it? And you kept this under wraps so well!"

Zhou De gritted his teeth, saying, "I used to think you signed up for the simultaneous matches just for conduct points. Turns out, you were just showing off! Damn it, you really pulled it off—and on such a grand scale too!"

"Enough. Stop embarrassing yourself. Aren’t you hungry? Let’s go to the cafeteria for lunch."

Yu Shao, looking exasperated, started walking toward the cafeteria.

"But wait, Yu! Why?"

Trailing behind, Zhou De asked, perplexed, "I just found out Xu Zijin plays Go too, and she’s really good at it. Are all female Go players this stunning?"

Hearing the question, Yu Shao pondered for a moment.

It seemed... they kind of were?

In his previous life, female Go players were generally attractive. In this life, with Xu Zijin and Wu Zhixuan as examples, the standard seemed even higher.

Still, Yu Shao didn’t know enough about this world’s female Go players to make a definitive statement based solely on these two.

So, he shook his head and replied, "I’m not sure. Maybe."

"I’ve made up my mind! I’m going to learn Go. Provocative Go—I’ll crush you at it!" Zhou De growled, gritting his teeth. "I won’t let you hog the spotlight anymore. I’m joining in on the action too."

Oh no!

Yu Shao was alarmed. For some inexplicable reason, he felt Zhou De might actually be serious this time.

The allure of pretty girls was truly terrifying!

"Yu, you have to help me!"

At that moment, Zhou De stared at Yu Shao intensely, leaving no room for negotiation.

Yu Shao’s eyelids twitched as he asked, "Can I say no?"

"I even gave up on Wu Zhixuan, and you’re still not willing to help me?"

Zhou De feigned outrage, as though his friend had stolen his love. "Here I am, finally smitten, and you just come in and steal her away. And I thought we were brothers!"

"First, you get smitten every day, so don’t act like it’s some rare occurrence," Yu Shao replied rationally. "Second, all I did was add her on WeChat. Plus, she’s not even from our school. It’s not like you’d have many chances to see her anyway."

Zhou De was momentarily at a loss for words. After a long pause, he said, "Don’t make me beg you."

"I won’t agree even if you beg."

Zhou De pulled out his trump card: "Godfather!"

Yu Shao admitted defeat.

After all, no high school guy could resist adopting a friend as their sworn son.

The two soon arrived at the cafeteria. After getting their meals, they found an empty table and started eating. Zhou De channeled his frustration into his appetite, devouring his food like he hadn’t eaten in three days.

Midway through the meal, a pretty girl, looking a bit shy and nervous, approached.

"Excuse me, could I have your contact info?"

Hearing this, Zhou De’s body stiffened. He immediately stopped eating, wiped his mouth with his sleeve, and nodded enthusiastically. "Sure! QQ or WeChat?"

"Uh…"

The girl looked awkward as she pointed at Yu Shao. "I meant him."

Zhou De froze. Suddenly, his food didn’t taste so good anymore.

Meanwhile, Yu Shao could barely hold back his laughter.

Suppressing his amusement, Yu Shao looked at the girl, nodded, and said, "Sure, go ahead and add me."

He quickly gave her his WeChat ID. After all, they were classmates, and since he wasn’t in a relationship, there was no reason to refuse.

Zhou De, seething with frustration, buried his head in his food, hoping to drown out his embarrassment.

However, over the course of the meal, three or four more girls came over to ask Yu Shao for his contact info.

By the end, Zhou De felt like the food had turned unbearably sour!

"What the h***? Does playing Go come with cosmetic surgery benefits or something?"

After yet another girl left with Yu Shao’s WeChat, Zhou De finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. "Wasn’t humor supposed to be a man’s best asset? Am I not funny?"

"You’re definitely funny," Yu Shao affirmed sincerely.

"Exactly! So why isn’t anyone asking for my WeChat?"

Zhou De seemed genuinely puzzled, but then he paused, feeling like Yu Shao’s words had a hidden jab. "Wait, were you mocking me just now?"

Yu Shao was startled. He hadn’t expected Zhou De to catch on so quickly. Denying it immediately, he said, "No, I wasn’t."

"Really?"

"Really, I wasn’t."

Yu Shao nodded firmly.

Zhou De remained skeptical but chose not to press further, allowing Yu Shao to breathe a small sigh of relief.

Shortly after finishing lunch, Yu Shao returned to the classroom, only to find the entire room in an uproar. All eyes turned to him in unison, filled with shock, amazement, curiosity, admiration, and… jealousy!

Old Zhang—Zhang Wenbo, the guy who usually dragged everyone to team up for gaming—rushed over with a resentful expression. "D**n, Yu! You’ve been hiding this all along? Planning to blow everyone’s minds in one go, huh?"

"I had no idea you even played Go, let alone that you’re so freaking good at it. And you kept it hidden? You’re something else. Secretly pulling this competitive stunt on us, are you?!"

"Exactly! We agreed to slack off together, and now you’re quietly raising the bar? That’s just evil! Pure evil!"

A guy in the front row joined the chorus of verbal attacks. "Seriously, watching you win was more painful than dying! My brain is still spinning in confusion!"

"Right! If it were just about earning some conduct points and then getting destroyed on stage, I could’ve handled that. But no, you actually won! How could you?"

The saying goes, "You dread your friend’s struggles, but dread them driving a luxury car even more." That summed up their feelings perfectly.

Yu Shao brushed them off with a couple of casual remarks, chuckling awkwardly as he tried to defuse the situation. If he didn’t, these "adopted sons" would definitely paint him as the villain of the century, guilty enough to warrant a nine-generation purge.

But these "sons" weren’t ready to let him off the hook so easily and continued their relentless verbal assault.

"The homeroom teacher’s here!"

Suddenly, a boy burst into the classroom, issuing the warning. At last, the group let Yu Shao off the hook and hurried back to their seats.

Moments later, Li Kang appeared at the door, holding his trademark thermos cup.

Li Kang’s sharp gaze swept across the room, and wherever his eyes landed, everyone instinctively straightened up in their seats. It was clear that the students of Class 7, Grade 10, had suffered under Li Kang’s strict rule for far too long.

After scanning the classroom, Li Kang’s eyes locked onto Yu Shao.

"Yu Shao, step outside for a moment," he said.

Yu Shao froze, puzzled. He had no idea why Li Kang was suddenly calling him out. Usually, being summoned by Li Kang didn’t bode well.

But since the homeroom teacher had spoken, Yu Shao had no choice but to stand up and walk toward the classroom door, where Li Kang was waiting.
