Chapter 96: Your Mind Is Deliciously Devious

Brooke rushed out of the house after a few minutes, her heart pounding in her chest as she pulled her box after her and struggled with a couple of duffel bags in the other hand.

She had to get out of there, fast. She needed to disappear, to vanish into thin air before anyone caught unto her. She had not even been able to write a goodbye note, she could not afford to.

’Maybe when I have settled down somewhere I can tell them that I am fine. Or maybe I can even find a way to blame Lyse for my disappearance.’ She thought vindictively.

However, as she approached her car, she froze.

There was a man was sitting on the hood of her car, his face obscured because he was facing away from her. His sudden appearance made her steps falter and she came to a stop beside the car while she wondered how he got in and what he was doing there.

"Who are you?" she demanded, her voice trembling. "What are you doing here? And on top of my car. How did you even get in here?"

The man slowly stood up to his full height and turned around, revealing a face that while unfamiliar, was an attractive, if somewhat mysterious face.

"Hello, Ms Chadwick. It is nice to meet you." His voice was low and menacing.

Brooke’s mind raced in fear. She could not place the man, but there was something about him that sent shivers down her spine, she knew without being told that this was a dangerous man. She wanted to turn away but it felt like her feet were stuck to the spot.

"Well, well, well," he said. As he examined the bags she held, a sinister smile playing on his lips. "Looks like someone is in a hurry."

"Get away from my car," she demanded, her voice rising.

The man was wasting her time, she could not afford to stay and trade words with him. She needed to get as far away asap.

To her irritation, the man chuckled. "Do you think that you can outrun Levi, Brooke? Do you think you can escape the consequences of your actions?"

Brooke’s heart sank to her feet. She knew he was right. Levi was a powerful man, and he would stop at nothing to get revenge. But how did he know about what she had done? She had not told anyone, not even Kim.

"I don’t know what you are talking about," she stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

The man laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "Oh, I think you do. You and your little plot to ruin Lyse’s life. A truly despicable act, one that I find quite interesting."

"Listen, i don’t know what you are talking about." Brooke said brazenly and walked to her trunk and opened it.

Her hands shook in fear as she placed her luggage, she worried that the strange man would stop her from leaving.

"I am sure Jean will be ready to spill his guts as soon as he wakes up." He said and Brooke dropped her bag on the floor, but the man continued as if nothing had happened.

"And as for your waiter friend, I am certain the police will be able to lift your prints off the baggie you gave him... the same baggie which still has trace amounts of the aphrodisiac in Lyse’s system."

Brooke’s eyes widened in fear. How could he know? She had been so careful. "Ho... how do you know about that?" she stammered, her voice trembling.

The man shrugged nonchalantly. "Let’s just say that I have my ways. Now, I can help you, but it is going to cost you."

Brooke hesitated. She did not trust the man before her, but she had no other choice. It was either accept his help of be thrown to the wolves.

Finally she nodded, her voice barely a whisper. "What do you want from me?"

"That’s a good girl." The man smiled a chilling smile. "All I want is your loyalty."

Brooke did not understand what he meant, but she knew that she had no other choice than to agree. She could not risk being caught. The stranger was right, Jean would instantly spill to save hims neck. And Levi was rich and powerful enough to find her wherever she tried to hide.

"I will do whatever you say," she said, her voice filled with desperation and fear.

"I have been watching you, Brooke," he said. "I know all about your little games. You are a dangerous woman, but you are also a useful one."

Brooke listened, her mind racing. She still did not trust the man, but she was grateful for his help. She knew that she had made a terrible mistake of getting caught, and now she would have to face the consequences.

"Now take your things back inside, there will be no exile for you." He said.

Brooke looked at him suspiciously, wondering what his game was.

"If Jean says what he knows and they find that waiter, this is the first place they will look for me." She cried in exasperation.

"No one will come looking for you." The man assured her. "Just go in and get back to whatever devious plans your little brain thinks of."

Brooke hesitated but eventually did as he said and picked up the things she had packed. As she began to trudge back to the house, she turned and looked back at the stranger.

"Who are you? And why are you doing this?" She asked.

"Think of me as a friend who just loves how your mind is deliciously devious." He answered with a chuckle.

Brooke shivered and turned away, returning back into the house while wondering what she had gotten into.

Meanwhile the man remained by her car and stared as Brooke disappeared from his sight. His phone rang, interrupting his thoughts.

"Yes." He said.

"We have found him, Boss." The voice on the other side said.

"Very good." The man answered, "now, take care of the both of them."
