Chapter 93: Levi Was A Hardass
Levi stormed into the office, his usually sharp features etched with a look of frustration and irritation. Ethan noticed the look in his boss’s demeanor immediately. Levi had always been demanding, but recently, he had become downright irritable and impatient.
"Ethan, where is that report I asked for yesterday?" Levi barked, his voice sharp.
Ethan, though taken aback, quickly recovered. "It is on your desk, sir," he replied, his voice steady.
Levi’s eyes narrowed. "And why is it not on my computer?"
Ethan sighed inwardly. "I thought that you might prefer a physical copy, sir."
Levi scoffed. "You should know better by now. I want everything digital."
Ethan nodded, suppressing a sigh. He had been working for Levi for years, and he knew better than anyone that his boss could be a demanding and difficult person. But lately, Levi had been even more irritable than usual.
Ethan wondered if it had something to do with his recent marriage to Lyse. He had hoped that marriage would mellow Levi out, but it seemed to have had the opposite effect. He would have never in a million years have thought that a woman could influence his boss’s feelings so much.
As the day wore on, Levi’s mood continued to deteriorate. He snapped at his employees, berated his subordinates, and generally made everyone’s life miserable. Ethan, in particular, was bearing the brunt of Levi’s wrath. He was constantly being bombarded with demands, criticized for minor mistakes, and scolded for no apparent reason.
By the end of the day, Ethan was exhausted and frustrated and he’d had to comfort a couple of assistants who had broken into tears after being scolded by Levi.
He could not understand what was wrong with Levi. He had always been a hard worker, but lately, he seemed to be pushing himself to the brink, causing Ethan as his assistant to suffer late nights and more work load. One would think that being a new husband meant that he should spend time with his wife.
At the end of the work day, Ethan was tentatively packing up his things to leave when Levi called him over. "Ethan, can you come over to my office," he said.
"Of course boss." Ethan answered calmly and after he ended the call, he punched the air and stamped his feet like a little frustrated child.
Last night he had been at the office with Levi and had only left at midnight, even then, Levi had not let him rest and had called him again. Then this morning he had to wake up early like he usually did. And now Levi was calling him into his office probably so that they could spend another long night in the office.
Ethan glared at the door to Levi’s office and wished that he could just quit and not go in, but he knew he could not refuse his boss’s order. He took a deep breath before he opened the door and walked over to Levi’s desk and waited for him to speak.
"I have been a bit short with you today," Levi said, his voice softer than usual and when Ethan raised an impertinent eyebrow while thinking, ’just a little short?’
Levi raised an eyebrow back and Ethan quickly looked down while Levi sighed. "I apologize. I have just been a little... stressed."
Ethan nodded, understanding. "It is no problem, sir. These things happen."
Levi sighed. "I know. I just... I have been having some issues at home."
Ethan had been Levi’s trusted assistant for years. Levi trusted him and knew that he could tell him anything without any fear of it being parroted outside, Ethan was very loyal and reliable.
Ethan’s eyes widened. "Oh? Is everything alright sir, is Mrs Van Doren okay?"
Levi hesitated, then shook his head. "It is complicated," he said. "But I will figure it out."
Ethan nodded sympathetically. "If you need anything, just let me know."
Now that he knew that everything was not okay, he could not held feeling bad that he had cussed out Levi in his heart when he had been yelling at him.
People might think that Levi was a hard ass but he was actually a lot different, he only did not show a lot of people that side of him.
"You can go home now, I have no need for you." Levi said.
Ethan thanked him and turned back to his work. As Ethan watched him, he could not help but feel a sense of pity. Levi, the powerful CEO, the man who had it all, was struggling.
He figured that it might have to do with the scandal surrounding Levi and Anya. But then, his boss’s marriage with Lyse was in itself, something of an anomaly. He still did not understand what his boss was doing, but he trusted his instincts.
When Ethan left the office, he could not help worrying about Levi. He hoped that whatever was bothering him would be resolved soon. But for now, he knew that he would have to be patient and understanding. After all, even the strongest people need support sometimes.
Levi remained in the office, despite the fact that it was slowly emptying. He did not have any work to do but he was reluctant to go back home where Lyse waited with condemnation and disgust in her eyes.

Kim slipped into Lyse’s office, his heart pounding with the fear of getting caught in his boss’s office. He had come in this morning, glad to see that Lyse had not yet come into work, probably because she was exhausted from the previous night. However, to his disappointment, the dress she had made was nowhere to be found and he surmised that she had locked in the inner room of her office.
He moved silently through the office, his eyes scanning the room. On her desk, he spotted a sleek, leather-bound planner. Curiosity piqued, he opened it, flipping through the pages. His eyes landed on a specific date, circled in red. A smile crept across his face.
This was the information he needed, Brooke was going to be very happy and that meant that he would be rewarded handsomely. The thought of money made him salivate greedily.
Just as he was about to memorize the date, he heard a footstep approaching. He quickly closed the planner and pretended to be searching for something under the desk.
"Kim, what are you doing here?" Meg, Lyse’s ever-vigilant assistant, asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
"Oh, hey, Meg," Kim stammered, his heart pounding. "I, uh, lost my pen last night. I thought I might have left it here."
Meg raised a disbelieving eyebrow. "You lost your pen in Lyse’s office?"
Kim nodded, trying to appear innocent.
"Well, you better hurry up and find it," Meg said, his tone impatient. "Lyse will be back soon."
With that, Meg turned and left the office, leaving Kim to his own devices. As soon as Meg was gone, Kim quickly pulled out the book and memorized the date and the name before slipping the planner back into place. Then he thought better of it and pulled out his phone and took a picture of the page. He then rushed out of the office, his heart pounding with excitement.
As soon as Kim was out of the building, he pulled out his phone and dialed Brooke’s number. She picked up on the second ring.
"Kim, what’s up? Have you found something?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement.
"I have got something interesting that I think you are going to love," Kim replied, his voice low and urgent. "I was snooping around Lyse’s office, and I found something."
"What did you find?" Brooke asked impatiently, her curiosity piqued.
"A date. A date for next tomorrow. She has not mentioned anything to anyone about it and I suspect it might have to do with the dress she made yesterday."
Brooke’s interest was immediate. "Could it be a business meeting? A client perhaps?"
"I strongly so," Kim replied. "It doesn’t seem like a typical business meeting. Something is definitely happening."
"Tell me, what is the date and who is she going to see?" Brooke demanded.
"I am going to send you the picture I took of the page." Kim said.
"What about the dress she made, is she finished with it? where is it?" Brooke asked impatiently.
"It was nowhere to be found, maybe she took it home or hit it somewhere in the office." Kim answered uncertainly.
"If it is in the office, you should be able to find it!" She snapped, her tone short.
"Just be on the lookout and tell me if you see anything." Brooke said and ended the call.
Kim stared at his phone with a frown. He had expected some gratitude from Brooke and not the behavior she had exhibited. After all, he had risked his job to leak Lyse’s business secrets to her.
If he was caught, not only would Lyse fire him but it would be next to impossible for him to get another job in the fashion industry after. The money she paid was not even worth the risk he was taking.
He pouted as he forwarded the picture to Brooke anyway. Peanuts or not, he wanted money and he would do whatever he could to get it.
