I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father
Chapter 24: Proposal

Chapter 24: Proposal

"Of course not." He answered at last.

"Then why did you say that you are my husband?" Lyse asked in bewilderment, her voice hesitant and fearful.

"Because I could see that you needed help escaping that girl, you are welcome by the way." Levi said as he put his hands in his pockets and stared at Lyse, unnerving her.

"Uhmm, thank you Mr Van Doren—"

"Levi." He interrupted and she frowned.

"What?"

"Call me Levi, I am your husband after all." He said seriously and she turned pale.

"I don’t know what you are speaking of and I don’t appreciate it." She said indignantly.

"I’m just teasing." Levi said as he shrugged, "I figure your little friend is probably going to go and tell everyone that you have a husband and it would be kind of weird if you appeared without a husband wouldn’t it?"

"But—"

"Again you are welcome, I have solved that problem for you and now you owe me."

"Huh?" Lyse protested and started to rise out of the bed but Levi gently pushed her back.

"You probably shouldn’t do that, not with that head injury." He said in concern and Lyse narrowed her eyes at him.

"Now back to what you owe me." Levi said with a smile as he straightened up and looked down at her. "All you need to do to pay me is pose as my wife for a couple of months and we are even."

Lyse’s eyes widened in disbelief, "What? Why? Absolutely not!"

Levi raised an eyebrow then he asked, "Why?"

"Well.. well because i don’t know you and it’s weird, you don’t just ask some random woman to be your fake wife."

Levi shrugged carelessly, "I guess I am a rule breaker then since I have asked you to be my fake wife."

Lyse glowered at him, "this is serious."

"And I am being serious, I need a wife for the next few months and I know you would be perfect."

"Why don’t you ask someone else? Maybe like miss mini skirt or one of your many blonde bimbos or someone your age, you could be my father!"

Levi threw his head back and laughed loudly at what she had said, he was amused to know that she had been annoyed by Alice. Lyse continued to look at him, completely baffled.

"Well, I am not your father." He said and added mischievously, "I could be your husband though."

"This is a bad idea." Lyse insisted, seeing the determination in his face.

"Why is that a bad idea?" He asked seriously, "I am handsome, rich, I am a complete gentleman and a lot of women would wish to be in your shoes. I have been called the most eligible man in the city."

"And you are definitely very conceited too." Lyse grumbled but Levi only chuckled and she wondered if there was anything that she could do to annoy him, he seemed unflappable.

"If you are all those things why would you chose me as your wife?" Lyse asked.

"Beats me." He muttered lowly and when Lyse looked questioningly at him he said to her hearing.

"I am in danger with those women but with you I have nothing to fear."

"Gee thanks." Lyse answered sourly and he smiled.

"You have nothing to lose, your friend already heard me say that I am your husband and I suspect that she is not going to keep her mouth quiet plus I am wealthy. I will pay you handsomely unless you don’t want to because you already have a husband." He probed with a raised eyebrow.

Lyse laughed nervously, "already have a husband? What? No." She protested.

"Then accept, I will have the contract drawn up and you can read it decide." He urged.

Lyse kept quiet as she contemplated what he had just offered. It was very odd that the man who had almost become her boss was now asking her to be his pretend wife.

She did not think that it was a good idea to accept his proposal even if he was staring at her with those striking eyes as if willing her to say yes. She should not be bewitched by him.

She however reasoned that accepting to be his pretend wife would solve some problems, like shutting down Brooke’s no doubt fiendish plans plus he was offering her money which would go a long way for the women’s shelter.

And she was "spoiled goods" after all, there was nothing new she would be called for marrying an older man that she had not already been called for dating and getting dumped by Brandon.

"Just say yes." Levi cajoled as he noticed that she was wavering.

The next day Levi got to work in an extremely bad mood. The paparazzi had camped outside his apartment the whole day. He could tell that the residents were uncomfortable and would probably like to complain but since he owned the building they could do nothing more than grumble and cuss at him from the safety of their apartments.

That apartment building was a highly sought out one and there was a long list of people hoping for an opening. He might seem like a dictator but he was ready to kick out anyone who complained about the paparazzi.

After successfully escaping the vultures with their cameras waiting for him, he got to his office office and was accosted by some paparazzi who had managed to sneak into the parking lot and immediately came at him with their flashing lights and microphones.

After he managed to get away and had gotten security to kick them out he ordered a full investigation into whoever had let the paparazzi in. Everyone knew how jealously he guarded his privacy so heads were sure to roll.

He had settled down to work when suddenly he heard a noise outside his door. He wondered who it was but shrugged. He was not concerned of being interrupted since he had already warned that he was not to be disturbed.

The next thing he knew the door flung open.
