I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 90: No Excuses
Chapter 90: No Excuses
Together, Yuri and Tuss hauled the battleship to a relatively open area, free of passing asteroids.
Then, Yuri began to patrol around the ship in her mecha. Her psychic power flowed unobstructed, infiltrating the interior of the battleship.
"There are survivors." Yuri exclaimed joyfully.
Tuss, equally delighted, asked, "How many?"
Yuri quickly scanned and responded, "At least two hundred. What do we do now?"
"There’s not much we can do except wait for them to wake up," Tuss admitted. They could dismantle the ship’s door to gain entry, but this would damage the battleship.
Every inch of the battleship was intricately designed, composed of materials other than metal —things they couldn’t control.
"Waiting isn’t the issue; the problem would be if a big asteroid suddenly comes flying at us," Yuri said, her psychic power constantly on alert.
"If that happens, we’ll see whether the battleship or the asteroid is tougher. Just run fast if that happens. Don’t get caught in the middle," Tuss warned.
Yuri acknowledged with a grunt, "You too, run fast."
The people inside the ship seemed to be aware of their still precarious situation. It didn’t take long for them to wake up and send a connection request to Yuri and Tuss.
If they were not this close, the request might not have even gotten through.
Successfully connected, Yuri heard the voice of Officer Lyao.
"You two rascals. Weren’t you supposed to stay put on Planet 165?" His voice was seething with anger and anxiety.
"We’re here now, so let’s leave it at that. Let us in," Yuri replied cheerfully.
Officer Lyao sighed helplessly, issuing orders to open the ship’s hatch.
The battleship was huge, bigger than any starship Yuri had ever been on. She looked around curiously, like a country bumpkin, while Enova scampered around exploring the battleship.
Watching her, Tuss remembered her expression the first time she’d boarded a starship. Though it had only been half a year ago, it felt like a very long time had passed.
"So, everyone was in the safety cabins. That’s why they all survived," Yuri realized, seeing the people emerging from the safety cabins.
Tuss looked at the soldiers and officers and agreed, "Their safety is the best thing we could hope for. Our trip wasn’t in vain."
Yuri nodded, "Absolutely."
When the survivors saw Yuri and Tuss, they all looked at them. At this point, the soldiers still didn’t know it was Yuri and Tuss who had saved them.
Officer Lyao was in the meeting room discussing the battleship’s repair with his subordinates. When Yuri and Tuss walked in, he pointed at two chairs, gesturing for them to sit.
From the entire conversation, Yuri only understood one point: the battleship would need six to eight hours for repairs.
After finishing with the battleship matters, the others exited the meeting room and closed the door behind them.
As soon as the door closed, Officer Lyao’s face turned stern. "Who told you about this?" he demanded.
"Bassus." Yuri quickly sold out Bassus. There was no point in trying to hide it.
Looking at Yuri’s unapologetic attitude, Officer Lyao chuckled. "You two certainly are bold, daring to venture just about anywhere."
"Thanks for the compliment," Tuss replied deadpan. "Didn’t you know we’ve been to the Chaotic Galaxy? If we’ve braved that, what could possibly scare us here?"
"You’re lucky we came," Yuri chimed in.
Officer Lyao was silent, not exactly thrilled despite being rescued.
"Could you at least say ’thank you’ to us?" Yuri prodded.
Officer Lyao gritted his teeth. "Well, thank you."
"Psht, so begrudgingly said. Forget it, no need for thanks," Yuri said nonchalantly.
Six hours later, the battleship was fully repaired and ready to head back.
Yuri, who had used a lot of her psychic power to find the survivors, had quickly fallen asleep once aboard the battleship. She slept soundly, oblivious to the events happening around her. She only stirred from her slumber after they had exited the meteor field.
"Where are we heading now?" Yuri asked, yawning.
"To the battlefield," Tuss replied, pouring her a drink. "Feeling better?"
"Much better," Yuri yawned again, so hard her eyes watered.
Tuss frowned, "You call this ’much better’?"
"Well, I’m still a bit sleepy," Yuri admitted, and stressed, "Just a bit."
Seeing her rosy complexion and realizing she was not in any immediate danger, Tuss relaxed. "Then sleep a bit more."
Leaning against Tuss, Yuri thought she wouldn’t fall asleep again, but she was out like a light in no time.
After she had fallen asleep, Tuss left the room and went straight to the command center.
"You were looking for me?" Tuss asked.
"Yes, have a seat," Officer Lyao pointed to the chair across from him. "Where’s Yuri? Still sleeping?"
"Psychic power usage took a toll on her. She’s tired," Tuss explained.
"Let her rest, then." Officer Lyao shifted his gaze to Tuss. "Have you thought about how you’re going to explain?"
"Explain what?" Tuss played dumb.
Officer Lyao rubbed his temples, frustrated. "Explain how the two of you managed to extricate a large battleship from between two asteroids with just two mechas. There are hundreds aboard the ship who know those asteroids had a magnetic field."
Tuss calmly replied, "There’s no explanation."
"Can’t you really tell?" Officer Lyao looked serious.
Tuss shook his head.
"In that case, you can leave now," Officer Lyao said, his face expressionless.
When Yuri awoke again, she was alone in the room.
She pulled back the curtains to see the nearby battleship, mechas, gunfire, and insectoids.
They had reached the battlefield.
Yuri quickly got out of bed, got dressed, freshened up, and downed a bottle of Nutrient Fluids before pushing open the door.
The ship was noticeably less crowded than before. Yuri knew those missing were likely fighting on the frontlines.
Her battle-ready spirit stirred, and she strode towards the command center. She didn’t even get to the door before Bassus blocked her way.
"Yuri, Officer Lyao isn’t here," Bassus informed her.
"And why would you be guarding here if he’s not?" Yuri shot him a ’do you think I’m an idiot’ look.
"Officer Lyao instructed not to let you see him. He doesn’t approve of you leaving the ship. Do you understand now?" Bassus sighed in resignation.
"Tsk, is he some sort of mind-reader? I haven’t even spoken up, and he already knows what I’m up to," Yuri grumbled.
Bassus rolled his eyes, "Not just him, I knew too."
Yuri reflected, "Is it that obvious?"
"You came all the way from Planet 165, isn’t it obvious enough? Now, because of you, I’m assigned to guard duty here," Bassus said, his face showing no trace of anger, but instead, gratitude. "Yuri, thank you. I owe you a huge favor. If there’s anything I can help with in the future, I won’t refuse."
Yuri waved him off, saying, "No need for future favors. You can help right now. Just open the ship’s door and let me out."
Bassus immediately stiffened, "I can’t help with that."
Yuri gave him a contemptuous look, "Ha, all talk."
