Chapter 89: Found Officer Lyao
Chapter 89: Found Officer Lyao
Upon hearing that Yuri and Tuss were headed to the front lines to find Officer Lyao, Daleks immediately volunteered to join them. Kilana, however, swiftly shot him down, "Are you sure you’re planning to help and not just become a liability or, worse, a casualty? Remember, we’re talking about the front lines here."
A shade of embarrassment crept onto Daleks’ face, and he glared at Kilana, falling silent.
"Are you certain you must go?" Ender objected, "It’s too dangerous."
"Well, it’s not exactly a must, but... we want to go," Tuss admitted honestly. If the army couldn’t locate someone, their chances of doing so in the vastness of space were even slimmer.
But some things needed to be done, regardless of how slim the odds might be, especially when it involved saving lives.
"We won’t recklessly plunge into the battlefield, rest assured," Yuri tried to assuage their worries.
"How can we rest easy?" Ender retorted, rolling his eyes, "The moment you leave Planet 165, you’re in danger."
"What if we come with you?" Hoolin chimed in, the ’we’ referring to him and Tyrone.
"No." Yuri quickly dismissed the idea, "We can’t be responsible for your safety."
"We can take care of ourselves," Tyrone asserted.
"Just the two of us," Tuss said as he scanned the group, an unexpected certainty radiating from his words. "You all stay put on Planet 165."
With that said, everyone else fell silent.
Leaving Planet 165 required an application. As soon as Yuri and Tuss filed their paperwork, the middle-aged commander got wind of it.
"They’re planning to leave?" The commander sounded surprised and a bit disappointed, considering the significant loss of firepower.
"Yes, they want to leave. Your thoughts?"
"Let them go, I don’t have the authority to hold them back." He didn’t want to offend a promising SSS-tier alpha.
"What about their safety out there?"
"They’re not ordinary individuals," a glint of confidence flashed in the commander’s eyes, "Even our strongest soldiers can’t compete with them."
Yuri hadn’t expected the application to be approved so quickly. The next day, they received the notice to proceed.
"I can only create a small opening in the shield, and it’ll only last ten seconds. Seize the moment," Hawk advised.
Sitting in their mechas, Yuri and Tuss simultaneously responded, "Understood."
"Now, I’ll count down from three, and you charge out when I say go."
"Roger."
In reality, they didn’t need ten seconds. In less than two, the red and green mechas successfully burst out, vanishing into the skies above Planet 165.
As soon as they entered space, Yuri’s keen senses detected a few hostile gazes.
"As expected, we’ve got insectoids," Yuri muttered.
"Ignore them, we need to keep moving," Tuss agreed.
"That’s exactly what I had in mind," Yuri responded, accelerating her mecha. The mecha, a gift from Officer Lyao, far exceeded their expectations and was superior to the one they had bought on the black market in every way, most notably in speed and power.
She absolutely loved it.
"They’re tailing us," Tuss warned.
"Let’s see who’s faster, then," Yuri’s voice was full of confidence and bravado.
In a place unseen to her, Tuss grinned indulgently, "Alright."
Though they were still within the Fritillaria Galaxy, traveling from Planet 165 to the front lines took Yuri and Tuss an entire day. They managed to shake off the insectoids tailing them, only to arrive in an area swarming with more of them.
Just as they were nearing the front lines, Yuri was met with a gaping mouth, wide enough to swallow a starship whole.
"Holy cow, you scared me to death!" Swearing in surprise, Yuri quickly grabbed a floating piece of debris—a remnant of either a mecha or a battleship—and jammed it into the open maw. Controlling Enova, she turned the scrap metal into thin wires and penetrated the insectoid’s body.
On the other hand, Tuss faced an ambush. However, his approach was even more brutal and bloody. He smashed his fist into an insectoid’s head. As his fist made contact, it transformed into countless sharp blades, piercing the insectoid’s skull.
Once inserted, he retracted it, taking with it a gory mix of brain matter and blood.
"You alright?" Tuss’s voice was still gentle.
"I’m fine," Yuri shook her head.
The battle lines stretched far, and Yuri and Tuss could see the distant flickers of cannon fire, but there was no sign of a single mecha or spaceship.
It was clear that they were still some distance from the battlefield.
Both agreed to first check out the location where Officer Lyao had lost contact.
Half an hour later, they found themselves staring at a meteor field, falling silent.
"Bassus didn’t mention a meteor field," Yuri commented.
"No wonder the status is missing in action, not confirmed dead," Tuss replied, letting out a sigh of relief, "If someone enters a meteor field, the chances of survival could actually be higher."
"I wonder how large this meteor field is?" Yuri pondered, watching the high-speed meteorites that could heavily damage, or even destroy, a mecha upon collision. If the area was small, the risk of crossing it would be minimal. However, if it was vast, the prolonged piloting of a mecha could lead to fatigue and higher chances of accidents.
"It’s likely not small. I’ll go scout first and come back in an hour," Tuss suggested.
"I’d rather we go together. If we can’t find the landing site in two hours, we’ll head back," Yuri disagreed.
Tuss nodded, "Alright."
Inside the meteor field, Tuss led the way, with Yuri close behind. Their mechas maneuvered swiftly through the shifting rocks.
As Yuri piloted her mecha, she kept an eye on the opticomputer signal, which had been steadily weakening since they entered the meteor field. Twenty-three minutes later, the signal disappeared entirely.
This suggested that Officer Lyao’s ship had indeed entered the meteor field. The question was, what was his current condition? Was he still alive?
After two hours of scouting, just as Tuss was about to suggest turning back, he spotted a piece of black object ahead.
"It’s metal," Yuri noticed as well.
"Let’s look around this area," Tuss said, momentarily putting aside their plan to return.
This time, Yuri not only activated her mecha’s detection function but also released her psychic power. Now, her psychic power could reach up to three miles, whereas the mecha’s detection range was limited to less than a thousand meters due to the interference from the meteor field. Given the circumstances, her psychic power was much more effective.
After another hour of searching, Yuri and Tuss finally found what they were looking for.
A large, black warship was being spun around by two large meteorites, one on each side.
"Can it really happen like this?" Yuri mumbled.
Tuss frowned, "It seems the meteorites have magnetic properties."
Yuri was silent for a moment, then murmured, "The vastness of the cosmos never ceases to surprise. Is the warship unable to break free from the two meteorites?"
"What if the ship is damaged?" Tuss hesitated.
Watching the rapidly spinning meteorites and the warship, Yuri asked, "Having been spun around for so many days, could anyone inside still be alive?"
Tuss couldn’t answer this question. There was training for such situations in military school, but the duration wouldn’t be this long.
"We should first try to free the warship together. It’s too large for me to handle alone," Yuri suggested.
"Okay."
The meteorites being magnetic implied a significant metal content within them. Manipulating a few pieces of metal wouldn’t be too difficult for Yuri and Tuss.
Even though the meteorites were enormous and the warship extremely heavy, with their combined effort, the warship was soon freed from the meteorites’ hold.
"The concentration of metal genesis in those meteorites was pretty high. I’m about eighty percent full," Yuri said contentedly.
Tuss paused, speechless. She’s thinking about metal genesis at a time like this? Well, that’s so... HER.
