Chapter 82: [Bonus Chapter for Sue_Dowse]Ground Invasion

Stranded on Planet 165, the holiday spirit dimmed as the news spread that a swarm of insectoids had breached the Alliance’s defense line. A band of folks gathered every day, watching the unfolding battle on the interstellarnet.

Yuri, just like everyone else, set aside her studies and stayed glued to the latest battle updates.

That night, Officer Lyao messaged her and Tuss, instructing them to swiftly familiarize themselves with their mechas’ configurations and the specific firepower values.

"Is Planet 165 not safe anymore?" Yuri asked.

Officer Lyao didn’t directly answer her question but said, "Level-eight insectoids have appeared. I’m on my way to the Fritillaria Galaxy."

"You’re coming too?" Yuri was surprised. Isn’t the Second Commander enough?

"This insectoid wave is the biggest in the last fifty years." Officer Lyao spoke in a grave tone, "Yuri, brace yourself."

He didn’t spell out exactly what she needed to prepare for, but they both knew what he meant.

The next day, Yuri didn’t join the group to watch the live broadcast. She bought several bundles of yarn and stayed in her room, weaving a sweater with her psychic power.

Controlling physical objects with psychic power was incredibly challenging. Yuri exhausted her psychic power every few minutes and had to rest for two hours before continuing to knit.

If Yuri wasn’t watching the broadcast, neither was Tuss. He stayed in the room with her. While one knitted a sweater, the other exercised his Enova power with various pieces of metal.

"The blades we made last time worked well, but it’s a shame we couldn’t retrieve them in front of everyone and lost them," Tuss lamented.

"It’s okay, we’ll make more this time," Yuri replied nonchalantly. Each of them now had two dimensional buttons, which could hold numerous daggers and blades.

When Planet 165’s shield was attacked at two in the morning, Yuri was sleeping soundly. At the sharp, intrusive noise, Yuri instinctively curled up into Tuss’s arms. With practiced ease, Tuss held her, covering her ears with his hands.

Above Planet 165, a six-horned insectoid with massive wings was forcefully battering the shield.

Triggered, the defense system automatically targeted the insectoid, launching its attack.

Explosions flared in the sky above Planet 165, lighting up the entire planet.

The military personnel swiftly assembled. Battle vehicles and mechas rose in a neat formation, ready to face the insectoids if the shield fell.

"Reporting, Commander, we’ve detected six level-five insectoids, eighteen level-four insectoids, 304 level-three insectoids, and twenty thousand level-one and two insectoids," a sergeant reported to the middle-aged commander.

The commander’s expression was solemn. "Notify those on the ground to open the shelters. Inform all citizens of Planet 165 to enter the shelters."

"Yes, sir."

The broadcast echoed on Planet 165, repeating, "Insectoids attacking, all citizens please proceed to your nearest shelter."

Yuri and Tuss hastily packed their things. As they stepped out of their room, the doors of the other rooms were just opening.

"Are we heading to the shelter?" Tyrone asked.

With a nod, Tuss, hand-in-hand with Yuri, joined the streaming crowd.

Perhaps everyone had been prepared for a hasty retreat when the shield was activated, so within minutes, the streets were teeming with people and the sky congested with lev vehicles.

Yuri and the others gave up on taking a lev and chose to walk instead. Tuss led her by the hand, and they didn’t seem particularly anxious, even occasionally glancing up at the sky.

When a brilliant flash of light zipped across the planet’s skies, followed by the roar of military fire, it was clear that the shield had been breached.

Guiding Yuri, Tuss navigated through the crowd towards an open square, where fewer people gathered.

"Aren’t you guys heading to the shelter?" Ender followed them to the square.

"We will, in a bit," Tuss answered, looking at him, "You guys go ahead."

"Don’t worry, we’ll go soon too. If anything goes south, we’ll withdraw immediately," Ender assured.

Seeing this, Tuss didn’t say anything more and summoned his mecha.

Upon seeing the familiar green and red colors, Yuri felt a bit funny. Will anyone believe me if I now explain I don’t like the green and red combination?

Tuss’s mecha was also green and red, obviously a male model with its rugged lines, whereas hers was a female model, its lines softer and the body sleeker.

Yuri frowned; she preferred Tuss’s design.

Just as she was about to voice this to Tuss, he seemed to anticipate her complaint, quickly jumping into his mecha and shutting the hatch.

Yuri: "...." What happened to treating me well? He doesn’t even want to swap his mecha with me!

"Insectoids are landing!"

Someone suddenly shouted.

Startled, Yuri swiftly climbed into her mecha.

With her manual control skills still not up to par, she opted to control it using her psychic power.

The moment Yuri’s psychic power connected with the mecha, she saw an insectoid in front of her, its gaping maw launching a long proboscis that impaled a man’s chest before swiftly dragging him back into its mouth.

The massive mouth closed, and when it opened again, there was no trace of the man.

Everything happened in a flash. By the time Yuri had collected herself, the insectoid was repeating its deadly tactic, hunting for the next prey.

Instinctively, Yuri reached out, grasping a nearby lamppost with the mecha’s hand, and ferociously thrust it into the gaping mouth.

With a resounding crash, the two-ton insectoid was sent flying backward, crashing into the roadside railings, motionless.

Is it dead just like that? Not just Ender and the others, but also the onlookers were stunned.

Upon closer inspection, they saw that the metal pole had penetrated through the insectoid’s mouth and straight through its head.

The crowd drew a sharp breath, commenting, "How much force was that?"

The number of insectoids descending from the sky was increasing. The ground was filled with residents rushing towards the shelters, so the military’s aircraft and mechas dared not use their firepower.

Seemingly aware of this, the insectoids swarmed towards the ground.

"Hurry, everyone, move faster," the guards kept shouting.

Having dealt with one insectoid, Yuri found herself surrounded by several more within seconds.

"Yuri, do you need help?" Daleks asked, his voice filled with eager anticipation.

"No," Yuri declined coldly. "Take care of yourself."

With that, a massive metal blade materialized in her hand. It was almost twenty centimeters wide and nearly three to four meters long, only a bit shorter than her mecha.

"Come on, all together now," Yuri sneered from within her mecha, swinging her blade.

Her first swing missed, as did the second and third. It wasn’t until her fourth swing that—

The blade came down on the insectoid’s back, arguably its strongest defensive point. A grating sound echoed as the creature’s scaled armor was cut through, and the blade lodged itself into its spine.

Roar—

A sound filled with both pain and rage resonated throughout the square.

At the same time, the other insectoids seized the opportunity to attack all at once.

Yuri’s eyes narrowed. She placed her hand on the hilt of her blade, maneuvering her mecha to perform a handstand.

With this push, the blade drove straight through the insectoid’s body. Its spine was severed, its abdomen pierced, leaving it on the brink of death.
