I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 60: You’re Different
Chapter 60: You’re Different
Yuri was blissfully unaware of the numerous individuals coveting her position. At this moment, she was sleeping soundly. She had barely glanced at the doctor entering her room, then fell back asleep the moment he left.
She had spent over ten hours from yesterday until this morning helping Tuss organize his Sea of Consciousness. Now she was so exhausted she could barely lift a finger.
Outside the hospital, all visitors intending to see Tuss were stopped.
"Why can’t we visit? Why?"
These were people of status who were usually treated with respect wherever they went. Being denied access left them indignant and annoyed.
The soldier met their protests with a steady gaze, saying, "No one is allowed to visit. It’s an order from Officer Lyao."
As soon as the name Officer Lyao was mentioned, the crowd went silent.
"We may not enter, but could you tell us about Tuss’s condition? Is he badly hurt? What’s the current situation?" someone asked.
"Apologies, but we can’t disclose any information about Tuss," the soldier said formally.
Everyone looked at each other, leaving with reluctance.
Yuri slept for a long time, from day to night and back to daylight again. When she woke up in the morning, she felt so weak it took her a full two minutes to come to her senses.
Tuss was still lying quietly in the treatment cabin, his body covered by green liquid, with only his head exposed.
Yuri watched him quietly. She traced her eyes from his thick black hair, over his handsome eyebrows, his firm nose, and finally landed on his perfect lips.
How can someone be so perfect in every way, exactly to my liking? Yuri couldn’t understand.
The room was quiet. After breakfast, Yuri opened her opticomputer. There were thousands of unread messages. Dozens of them were from the Cheng family, which she skipped over. She didn’t recognize many of the others, so she ignored them and only replied to Ender and his friends.
As soon as she responded, Ender sent a communication request.
"Bored? Do you want us to keep you company?" Ender asked.
Yuri shook her head and said, "Don’t come. I need to study and don’t have time to entertain you."
Ender’s mouth twitched at her blunt reply. Seeing that she was in good shape, Ender let out a sigh of relief, "There are a lot of people outside the hospital. If you’re fine, try not to go out."
"Hmm?" Yuri raised her eyebrows, not understanding the meaning behind his words.
After a three-second pause, Ender still didn’t explain. Instead, he said, "Let me know if you need anything. I’ll buy it for you. If it’s inconvenient, you can also ask Kilana."
Yuri thought for a moment. Indeed, there were things she needed, such as a change of clothes. She nodded, "I’ll contact her later."
After ending the call with Ender, Yuri sent a communication request to Kilana, asking for her help in buying clothes.
Kilana readily agreed.
"Do you have any preferences for clothes?" Kilana asked.
"Plain, loose, comfortable, and easy to move in," Yuri answered.
Kilana recalled Yuri’s usual attire and replied, "Understood."
"I’ll send you my measurements in a bit," said Yuri.
Five minutes later, Kilana received Yuri’s measurements. After looking at them, she was impressed, Are they really this big? I’ve heard that betas are exceptionally gifted in this regard, seems it’s true.
Just as Kilana was about to leave, Ender’s communication request came in, "When you see Yuri later, pay attention to her state of mind, see how she’s feeling."
"What happened?" Kilana asked, puzzled.
"Some people are trying to punch above their weight," Ender replied coldly.
"Someone is interested in Yuri? They knew Yuri’s a beta?" Kilana asked, surprised.
Ender choked a bit, then corrected, "No... I mean, they’re going after Tuz."
Kilana: "....."
"Because they don’t know Yuri is a high-grade beta, they think she’s just an omega, and isn’t good enough for Tuz." Ender was exasperated.
Yuri was likely the first SSS-tier beta in the Alliance in a century.
Kilana was efficient. Three hours after their conversation, she appeared in the hospital room with several large bags.
Yuri took the bags from her and poured her a glass of water, "Thank you for your hard work."
"It’s nothing." Kilana held the cup with both hands, sitting straight as a rod. Despite being a cool hirl, she was surprisingly well-behaved in front of Yuri, almost like a young kid.
"Do you have anything urgent later?" Yuri asked.
Kilana shook her head, replying, "My original plan was to do holiday homework with Daleks, but that’s not urgent."
"Do you need me to help you with mental guidance?" Yuri asked. Kilana’s Sea of Consciousness was a bit chaotic, she could feel it even without entering it.
Kilana’s eyes lit up, but then she shook her head, "I haven’t saved enough astracredit."
She had spent her savings on a wedding gift for Tuz. Although the gift didn’t make it to him before it got ruined, her several hundreds of thousands, Daleks’ more than a million, and Ender’s two million astracredits were all wasted. The mecha they had bought together had turned into thin blades as fragile as cicada wings.
Rei had said that "cloak woman" charged five million astracredits for a single guidance session. The fee was even higher when she guided the first commander the day before yesterday, demanding a lev in return.
Even if Yuri really gave them the 90% discount that Ender mentioned, Kilana still couldn’t afford the fee.
She didn’t even have fifty thousand astracredits in her account.
Seeing Kilana’s conflicted expression mixed with regret, Yuri asked curiously, "Did I ever say I was going to charge you astracredits?"
"You didn’t, but Rei and Tuz did. They said you charge a lot," Kilana answered honestly, "But it’s worth it. Once I save enough astracredits, I’ll come to you for guidance."
Yuri thought about the fees she charged for the two times she guided people’s Sea of Consciousness. She shook her head and said, "During the Planet 814 incident, knowing the person wasn’t good, I deliberately asked for a high price. As for the day before yesterday, the first commander was planning to give me a lev anyway, I just raised the condition a bit. A lev won’t be a big deal for people like him. I won’t charge ordinary people for as much."
Hearing this, Yuri noticed Kilana breathe a sigh of relief.
With a chuckle, she said, "Given your relationship with Tuz, I won’t charge you this time."
Kilana paused, her eyes sparkling as she asked, "Really?"
"Of course, it’s just a small effort on my part," Yuri said nonchalantly.
"No, I should still pay," Kilana insisted earnestly, "Almost everyone at Military Academy No. 1 knows Tuz. If they all come to you through him, wouldn’t you end up providing this for all of them for free?"
Kilana shook her head and said, "That would be a big loss for you."
Seeing her concern for herself, Yuri felt a warmth in her heart and said, "It won’t be free, the money for these clothes and your running errands will offset it. Besides, you guys are different from others."
Hearing the words "you guys are different from others," Kilana couldn’t help but smile, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.
