Chapter 187: [Bonus Chapter] The Most Powerful Blast

After Yuri and Tuss had prepared thousands of metal wires, they finally took a break.

"A few more hours of sleep, and we’ll be there," Tuss said, holding Yuri close in the cramped quarters of their rest cabin.

Yuri, stifling a yawn, said, "You should sleep too. We need to be sharp."

"Alright," Tuss replied, planting a kiss on her forehead.

Almost instantly, the two of them drifted off to sleep. Their red-green mecha was so quiet, it was almost as if they were alone in the universe.

Meanwhile, the battlefield was still ablaze with fire. The insectoids and the Alliance were stuck in a standstill.

"Commander, our ammo stockpile is running low. At the current rate of fire, we can only last for about six more hours," one of the officers reported.

"Our situation is probably even more dire on the ore planet. It’s gotten much quieter over there."

"The starship carrying ammunition is en route. We’re not running out of firepower. But we’re powerless to help the ore planet. We can’t get access in there," another officer admitted.

Soon, those stranded on the ore planet might be overwhelmed by the insectoids.

"Prepare our most powerful blast. Keep trying to draw the level-nine insectoid queen away. As soon as she comes after us, unleash maximum firepower," Commander Lyao ordered solemnly.

The others fell silent at his words.

Unleashing such powerful fire at this close range... they didn’t know if it would kill the level-nine insectoid queen. But they knew for sure that it would backfire on them.

"Yes, sir," the soldiers responded in unison, their voices full of determination.

The next moment, a barrage of level-ten firepower was launched at the insectoid army.

The level-ten blasts were costly, and their reserves were dwindling. If they couldn’t succeed this time, attracting the queen’s attention again would be a significant challenge.

This time, we must succeed. Failure is not an option. Everyone silently prayed in their hearts.

Smoke obscured the entire space, nothing could be seen.

"Have we located her position yet?"

"Speed up, she’s catching up!"

"Whoa, she’s here. Is it time to launch the most powerful blast?"

"Speed up, we’re too close! The blast will reach the people on the ore planet!"

"No, we can’t wait. Fire now, in two more seconds we won’t even have the chance. Commander, give the order."

"Launch the most powerful blast."

Commander Lyao’s eyes were sharp and resolute.

The level-nine insectoid queen seemed to sense something. The moment an unassuming missile was launched, she pounced, deflecting it with a swing of her claw.

"Damn, she’s too fast. The missile didn’t have time to detonate before she deflected it."

"Accelerate, move the ship forward."

"Oh no, it’s detonated."

"Accelerate—"

An invisible wave of energy dispersed, obliterating everything in its path, turning all into dust, disappearing into the vastness of space.

"Engage the ship’s energy shields."

"They’re already on."

"Quit talking, everyone get to the escape pods."

"The energy wave is here—"

"....."

In the livestreaming room, at first, people didn’t realize that the ship had used its most powerful blast. Only when the blast detonated, turning nearby asteroids and all sorts of debris into dust, did they realize something was wrong.

Under their horrified gaze, the energy shield of the Alliance’s largest warship broke, and the ship’s hull disintegrated, turning into fragments.

The vast body of the ship was destroyed, leaving only a handful of blackened escape pods.

Whether the people inside were still alive, nobody knew.

"Look quickly, that level-nine insectoid queen didn’t die. She ran away just now, and now she’s back," someone exclaimed.

"It looks like she’s just a little roughed up, a few burn marks here and there. Apart from that, there are no other injuries," another observer noted.

"With her speed and strong defense, the Alliance’s most powerful blast couldn’t take her down."

"Look, what is she doing?"

"She’s actually swallowing the escape pods. Does she know there are people inside?"

"Can’t those escape pods get away? Are they just sitting ducks?"

"Someone needs to come and rescue those pods quickly."

"Who can come? Anyone who does is signing their own death warrant."

Just as everyone was falling into despair, two mechas pierced the sky.

"Oh, my goodness. Someone really came."

"Wow, seeing those familiar red and green colors, I’m getting teary."

"Two red-green mechas, Yuri and Tuss have arrived."

Yuri and Tuss hadn’t expected that the metal wires they had prepared would be used on the escape pods before they could even get to the level-nine insectoids.

With more than two thousand meters of metal wire tied around the dozen escape pods, Yuri was tasked with pulling the pods to safety while Tuss was assigned to draw the level-nine insectoid queen’s attention.

In the face of the level-nine insectoid queen, their seven or eight-meter tall mechas were as small as ants, and the queen could blow them away with a sneeze.

The level-nine insectoid queen didn’t take the red-green mechas seriously until they launched level-ten blasts. Then she realized that these ’ants’ were not so simple.

While Tuss fired, he used the Enova to shield his mecha. When the level-nine insectoid queen attacked, he ran.

The queen was incredibly fast. Her huge body did not affect her speed, and Tuss had a few close calls.

One hit and it would be over. Both his mecha and its pilot would be gone.

"Two thousand meters of metal wire might not be enough," Tuss noted.

"Then make it four thousand, to prevent her tail from smashing us into pulp," Yuri, who had already taken the escape pods to a safe distance, responded.

Turning back, she saw Tuss leaping and dodging, each time narrowly avoiding a fatal hit.

Yuri quickly fired a blast to attract the attention of the level-nine insectoid queen.

As expected, the queen turned to look at her.

Yuri’s barrage continued, deliberately aiming for the queen’s eyes as if to provoke her.

The level-nine insectoid queen roared in rage and charged at Yuri.

In a spot invisible to the queen, two long metal wires flew from the two mechas, meeting in space and connecting together.

As the level-nine insectoid queen charged, the thin metal wire instantly pierced her impenetrable skin and sliced into her body.

Roar—

A jolt of pain, and the level-nine insectoid queen was furious.

She looked down, instantly noticing the abnormality.

The next moment, she grabbed the wire with her claw and pulled forcefully, intending to break it.

And she succeeded.

Yuri and Tuss looked grim. That was their metal wire, protected by level-seven Enova.

"It’s alright, we still have thousands of them. Let’s keep going," Tuss encouraged her.

Yuri hummed in agreement, then exclaimed in surprise, "Its wound is healing incredibly fast. That rate of recovery is almost insane."

"A considerable advantage indeed," Tuss sighed. "I’ll try to see if my metal-based abilities can penetrate its body."

"I’ll give it a shot as well," Yuri joined, manipulating the metal wires with Enova. The fine metal wires shone with a cold light at the tips, razor-sharp.

Yuri aimed for the abdomen of the level-nine insectoid queen, but it moved unexpectedly, causing her wire to skew and stab into its backside.

Well, the backside it was. At least it pierced through.

Controlling the Enova, Yuri painstakingly maneuvered inside the insectoid queen’s body, attempting to make the wire travel from the rear to its abdomen, maybe even up to its head.

The level-nine insectoid queen sensed something invading its body. Its head and long tail moved simultaneously - the head snapping at Tuss, and the tail swinging towards Yuri.

Both Yuri and Tuss hastily retreated.

The long tail swiped dangerously close to Yuri’s face, and a buzzing sound echoed inside her mecha.
