I Married A Degraded Alpha
Chapter 162: Coincidence

Chapter 162: Coincidence

"Guess what I just saw on the military’s official website?"

"Cut the crap. What is it?"

"Take a guess."

"Did your favorite troop start recruiting?"

"No. Guess again."

"Give us a clue."

"It’s about Yuri and her husband."

"Aren’t they still in school? Why would their news be on the military website?"

"It’s there. They are recruiting for the 458 Defense Line."

"What? When is the deadline?"

"Still half a month to go."

"What are we waiting for then? Let’s sign up."

"Hehe, I’ve already done it."

"..."

Somehow the news spread like wildfire: Yuri and Tuss were recruiting for the 458 Defense Line.

In less than a few hours, all 1,500 spots were filled.

"Do we need to close the registration?" asked a military staff member.

"We said it’s open for half a month, we can’t close it now."

"Then we will choose the best candidates."

Xiva once said everyone was reluctant to come to the 458 Defense Line. So after Yuri and Tuss posted their recruitment notice, they were prepared for the worst-case scenario, that they might not find anyone.

Therefore, they didn’t pay too much attention to the online messages.

The next day, Yuri and Tuss collected their energy stones and weapons from Xiva, and each received their patrol route.

"The scenery is pretty nice here. Should we start a live stream?" Yuri and Tuss discussed. With over a hundred billion people in the Alliance, if they do a live stream and get viewers, they should be able to make some money.

Tuss thought for a moment and said, "Let’s give it a shot. I’ll start one too."

They registered for their own streaming accounts and followed each other’s channels.

Their patrol routes diverged to the left and right, and their mechas separated at the station.

As soon as Yuri started her stream, she shared her channel with friends like Daleks, along with Tuss’s channel.

After a moment of thought, she also sent it to classmates from the Mecha Manufacturing department like Sagato, with a message: "Experience the mysterious beauty of the 458 Defense Line with Yuri."

"That’s still not enough. Let me think..." Yuri mumbled to herself, and eventually decided to send a mass message, notifying everyone in her contacts.

And so, in less than a few minutes of starting the stream, the viewer count in Yuri’s live stream skyrocketed, reaching several hundred.

The first spaceship gift bombed her live stream, and Yuri was stunned.

"Who’s so generous to send a spaceship gift right away?" Yuri asked in surprise.

"Your respected Officer Lyao," someone answered.

Yuri was shocked, "Aren’t you busy?"

"I am. That’s why I’m sending a gift and leaving."

"Sir, why don’t you send a real one? I’m broke," Yuri pleaded.

"I can’t afford that. Goodbye."

Yuri: "....You have several large battleships, and even more smaller ones. If you can’t afford to send a big one, a small one is fine too. I’m not picky."

But her superior had already left and couldn’t hear Yuri’s grumbling.

Yuri pouted and aimed her camera at the space, starting her own narration, "The 458 interstellar route is quite long. Today’s task is just a section of it. I should be able to finish in about three hours."

Since it was a patrol, the speed of the mecha was very slow, and the footage was very clear. People could even see the beautiful snowy landscapes on nearby planets.

"There are many insectoid hunter squads on the 458 Defense Line. I wonder if we will be lucky enough to encounter one today." Yuri said, glancing at the screen and noticing that many viewers had sent her gifts.

"Thank you for your gifts, everyone. But it’s enough to give me some likes. Let’s skip the gifts, after all, you’re not as wealthy as me."

As soon as Yuri said that, a barrage of comments flooded the screen.

"You just said you were broke."

"Yuri, I’ll help you promote your live stream."

"Don’t worry, Yuri, we have enough astracredits."

"Yuri, show us your face. Even the most beautiful scenery isn’t as pretty as you."

"...."

In less than twenty minutes, the number of people in Yuri’s live stream had reached over ten thousand.

Perhaps Yuri was lucky. She had just expressed a desire to encounter an insectoid hunter squad when she did run into one.

It was a bug hunting squad that sent her a distress signal.

A hurried distress signal sounded in her mecha, changing not only Yuri’s expression but also quieting the viewers in her live stream.

Yuri pressed the answer button, and a desperate voice from the other side said, "Is this a patrolling soldier? We’ve encountered level-four insectoids, and the casualties are heavy. We need help."

"Send me your location." Yuri’s voice was calm, filled with a sense of reassurance.

"I’m sending it now, please hurry."

"Okay."

Yuri received the coordinates, turned the speed of her mecha up to its maximum, and momentarily ignored the live stream.

However, her stream remained lively, even becoming more active.

"The income of a hunting squad isn’t necessarily high, but the risk is widely recognized."

"The mortality rate is comparable to that of soldiers, you know."

"Those who choose to become insectoid hunters are either driven by life circumstances or pure interest."

"With Yuri stepping in, level four insectoids are nothing."

"The question is whether they can hold out until Yuri arrives."

"...."

The squad was medium-sized, with over fifty members, a small starship, three basic mechas, and two intermediate mechas.

They had encountered a small group of low-level insectoids earlier in the day and had successfully hunted them down, reaping significant rewards. Everyone was thrilled, already considering how many astracredits they would earn from selling this batch of insectoids and how to spend them.

Unexpectedly, on their return journey, they suddenly encountered two insectoids: a level three and a level four.

They could just about handle a level three insectoid, but the level four was beyond their capabilities. Now that both were attacking at once, the consequences were dire.

"Has the distress signal been sent?"

"We have successfully connected with a patrolling soldier. She is on her way."

"Is it one person, or several?"

"Just one, a woman."

"A woman?"

"Can she handle it?"

"She doesn’t have much choice, there’s no one else nearby."

"I’m afraid it’ll be a death sentence even if she does come."

"Keep sending the distress signal."

The squad was not far from Yuri, otherwise their distress signal would not have reached her. Yuri’s top-of-the-line red-green mecha arrived on the scene at maximum speed.

At this moment, the level four insectoid was standing on the starship, clawing at it, seemingly trying to dismantle the starship.

The level three insectoid had the head of a mecha in its mouth, its tail and sharp claws dealing with the other mechas. It seemed to be handling them with ease.

Looking at their shiny fur, Yuri thought to herself that their skins should fetch a good price. So, she silently withdrew her large sword, and sent a level eight psychic power blade, invisible to others, towards the heads of the two insectoids.
