Chapter 160: [Bonus Chapter]The 458 Defense Line

Yuri had no idea how she’d passed out, nor what Tuss had done after she had.

When she woke up, she was no longer in her own bed but in Tuss’s.

She could smell the strong scent of wood on her body, mixed with a faint medicinal smell - a sign that Tuss must have treated her with some medicine.

Yet, her body was still sore, as if she’d been in a tough fight.

Yuri took out a healing pod from her dimensional button. Too lazy to get dressed, she hopped straight out of bed. Each step was laborious, and she found herself gasping for breath. Finally, she made it to the healing pod and climbed in.

The next moment, her aches were immediately relieved, and her groggy mind started to regain clarity.

Tuss had thoroughly marked her.

A beta that was completely marked could no longer groom the Sea of Consciousness for anyone other than her own alpha.

So, from now on, I can only help Tuss groom his Sea of Consciousness Yuri frowned, thinking, Isn’t that going to cut down one of my income sources?

And it would also mean one less way to boost her psychic power.

Speaking of psychic power, Yuri realized something was amiss. She opened her eyes in surprise - her mental Enova had advanced.

Just after a night’s sleep, it had upgraded from level seven peak to level eight.

Moreover, her Enova also went from level five to six.

Yuri’s feelings were mixed. Is this a case of losing some but gaining some?

Her disappointment was significantly reduced by the advancement of her Enova.

Possibly due to her exhausted body, Yuri fell asleep again in the healing pod after a short while.

In the interrogation room of the military headquarters, Tuss was seated across from Officer Lyao.

Officer Lyao, with his sharp gaze, was watching Tuss closely, detecting a faint, fresh, grassy scent from him, like the aftermath of a rainfall.

His eyes darkened as he spoke in a voice void of any warmth, "You have two choices before you now. First, confinement for five years; second, defend the Alliance’s coldest front - the 458 Defense Line - for ten years. You have ten minutes to make your decision. I can wrap things up before anyone else reacts. If not, the consequences will only get worse."

Tuss, his face expressionless, asked, "What about Yuri?"

"She’s the victim, and has made substantial contributions to the Alliance. She’ll be fine," Officer Lyao assured, his tone suddenly becoming stern, "I personally recommend you choose the second option. If you pick the first, you two will be separated. You must be aware of the pain a freshly marked beta faces when separated from her alpha."

Tuss certainly understood, but he didn’t want Yuri to endure the cold of the 458 Defense Line with him.

"The 458 Defense Line isn’t as terrible as the rumors suggest," Officer Lyao reluctantly explained, "I’ve traded all of your merits for official positions. Yuri is now an eighth-level commander and you, a ninth. Now you both qualify to recruit your own soldiers. You look after your own recruits, with the Alliance covering fifty percent of the costs."

"Thank you," Tuss said solemnly.

Officer Lyao remained icy as he responded, "If you truly appreciate it, prove it with your performance on the 458 Defense Line."

Tuss stood up, saluted Officer Lyao, and said, "I won’t let you down."

Officer Lyao nodded, his expression softening a bit, "You can leave now. Don’t linger, take her and leave quickly."

"Understood."

By the time Tuss returned to their mansion piloting his mecha, Yuri was still in the healing pod. He didn’t wake her, instead he started to pack their belongings.

They were used to keeping their things in the dimensional button, so there weren’t many items in the manor. When he finished packing, only half an hour had passed.

Yuri was still asleep.

Tuss decided to carry the healing pod downstairs and load it onto the mecha.

Using his Enova, Tuss changed the color of the red-green mecha to a more understated black. Silently, he flew towards the spaceport, from where they would launch into the vast space, heading for the chilling 458 Defense Line.

Tuss had a ton of unanswered communication requests and hundreds of unread messages on his opticomputer. He opened each one, sending them all the same reply: The matter has been resolved, will explain in detail when free.

After replying, he turned off his opticomputer.

Meanwhile, Yuri, still asleep, furrowed her brow. Her normally fair face looked unsettled as if she were about to wake up. Tuss quickly released a large amount of pheromone, wrapping her in layers of it.

Instantly, Yuri’s furrowed brow relaxed, and her face took on a serene, tranquil expression.

However, less than two minutes later, her brow furrowed again. Her hands moved restlessly inside the healing pod, as if searching for something.

Seeing this, Tuss’s heart melted. He opened the healing pod, lifted Yuri out, packed the healing pod away, and took out the resting pod.

He wrapped Yuri in a thin blanket, and they squeezed together inside the resting pod.

With her body pressed against Tuss’s warm one, and the scent that always comforted her filling her nostrils, Yuri fell into a deep sleep again.

Tuss looked at her sleeping face, feeling no sleepiness himself.

He was taking her to a foreign, harsh place. When she woke up, he wondered, if she would blame him.

She could have been attending school, living a prestigious life as a beta on the bustling Planet Alpha...

Tuss wished he could obliterate his past self.

Later, Yuri was awakened by her hunger.

When she heard the rumbling of her stomach, she thought she had heard thunder.

She looked at the resting pod and then at Tuss, curiously asking, "Where are we going?"

"We’re heading to the 458 Defense Line, to defend the border," Tuss answered, watching her intently, not missing any small changes in her expression, "Yuri, I’ve been sentenced to guard the border for ten years. I couldn’t bear to leave you, so I brought you with me."

Rumble—

The response to Tuss was the sound of Yuri’s stomach rumbling again.

"The 458 Defense Line, huh? I’ve heard it’s very cold there. Have you packed enough clothes?" Yuri asked, her expression calm, as if they were just going on a vacation.

"I didn’t pack any. The clothing there is much warmer. Besides, the military has temperature-adjustable clothing, we can wear those," Tuss explained. He then asked the question he wanted to know the most, "Are you willing to accompany me to the 458 Defense Line?"

Yuri rolled her eyes and said, "Isn’t it a bit late to ask that now?"

"It’s not too late. If you’re unwilling, I’ll take you back," Tuss said, his face showing his inner struggle.

Yuri glanced at him and said, "If I find it hard to adapt, I’ll go back myself, no need for you to accompany me."

Tuss realized that she was willing to go with him and heaved a sigh of relief. "We just marked each other completely, it’s better not to separate right now. After a while, when we’ve both adjusted, you can come back for your classes and visit me during holidays."

Yuri nonchalantly responded, "We’ll see when the time comes. I can study online anyway, all the courses are freely available to us."

Tuss nodded in agreement, "When the time comes, we can negotiate for alternative graduation methods."

Yuri agreed, as she had the same thought in mind.

The 458 Defense Line is not a planet, but a star sector, containing dozens of planets.

"Are there few people living there?" Yuri asked, sipping on Nutrient Fluids, and started searching for information about the 458 Defense Line on the interstellarnet.

"There are less than ten habitable planets there, and each of them has a population of about two to three hundred million," Tuss said. While Yuri was asleep, he had already read all the information about the 458 Defense Line and committed it to memory.

"That’s quite sparse indeed," Yuri commented, as she found some pictures of the planets – they were all covered in ice and snow, looking extremely cold.
