I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 148: Level-eight Insectoid Queen
Chapter 148: Level-eight Insectoid Queen
The mystery of the massive metal block that fell from the sky remained unresolved. But since it came from the Empire’s side, it was considered an intervention by the Empire for the time being. Citizens of the Alliance were posting messages on the Empire’s interstellarnet, thanking them for helping the Alliance catch the starship, saving 168 betas from the Alliance.
Most of these 168 were A-tier and above beta, with 23 of them being S-tier.
Once this information was disclosed, all of the Alliance was astounded. No wonder the number of high-tier beta awakenings in the Alliance had been decreasing over the years.
While filled with fury, the Alliance’s citizens couldn’t help but "thank" the Empire again, flooding the Empire’s interstellarnet social media, sending "heartfelt" greetings to the Empire’s royalty and its citizens.
Meanwhile, an Empire official awaiting the trafficking starship stood up abruptly when he heard that the starship had been intercepted by the Alliance. His gloomy eyes filled with killing intent, he gritted his teeth, saying, "How were we found out?"
They had been using this route for nearly six years, always safe and sound. He just wondered why they were detected just this time.
"We have no news from the front, we also don’t know where the problem arose. However, there’s a video of the event on the Alliance’s interstellarnet if you wish to see—"
"Show me."
Three minutes later...
The official’s face grew even darker. The starship was on the border, even its head had entered the Empire’s territory. Just a bit more, a mere 0.001 second, and the Empire would have had 168 more beta.
Pain pulsed in the official’s heart. Anger at its peak, he kicked the chair beside him, causing it to fall apart with a crash.
"What’s with the massive metal?" the official asked. There were meteorites in the star sea, but he couldn’t believe it was just a coincidence that they had met one.
A subordinate shook his head, "We don’t know. It seems that the Alliance is also unclear."
The subordinate pulled up the webpage of the Alliance’s citizens thanking the Empire for their assistance and showed it to the official.
Reading the comments filled with seeming gratitude but actually laced with sarcasm, the official felt a sweet, metallic taste rise in his throat. Swallowing the anger that was about to escape his mouth, he darkly ordered, "Aren’t there insectoid armies outside the 514 defense line? Draw them here."
The subordinate frowned. "That’s not easy, the 514 defense line is a bit far from here. And this place is the border; nearby planets are barren, not much food. The insectoids might not be willing."
"Find a way then," the official glared at the subordinate. A second later, an evil smile crossed his shadowy face, "I recall at the 515 defense line area, there’s a level-8 insectoid queen. She seems to be in her spawning period. Go steal her eggs, better yet, throw the eggs into Alliance territory."
"But if we can’t reach the border, can’t reach the Alliance, it will be our Empire’s soldiers who die," the subordinate disagreed with this plan. Are level-eight insectoid eggs so easy to steal?
The plan sounded too risky.
"If they can’t handle this small matter and die, then so be it," the official said dismissively. He cast a sideways glance at the subordinate and barked, "Go on, now."
"Yes, sir."
Just as Yuri returned to her villa from the cafeteria, Tuss’s communication request came through.
Yuri accepted the call. It had been nearly two months since the two of them last saw each other. They gazed at each other’s faces, a tinge of bitterness in their eyes.
The hologram of Tuss stepped closer and held Yuri, saying, "I’m sorry. I was away for a bit too long."
Yuri pressed her lips together. She wanted to say it was okay, but thinking of the two heat cycles she had endured alone, she found that she was indeed upset. She couldn’t say it was okay, instead she asked him, "When will you be back?"
"In a few days. There are still some loose ends to tie up," Tuss replied.
Yuri was not satisfied with this answer and remained silent.
It was the first time Tuss had seen her throw a tantrum, finding it amusing yet endearing. He wanted to pinch her cheeks, but couldn’t touch her. With a tinge of regret, he assured Yuri, "I will sort things out here as soon as possible."
Not only did she miss him, he missed her so much it was driving him mad.
However, a week passed and Yuri did not wait for Tuss. Instead, she learned about the news of an insectoid attack on the border between the Alliance and the Empire.
The border of the Empire and the Alliance was a barren region, no one knew why the insectoids would go there.
Everyone in the Alliance, from the higher-ups to ordinary citizens, couldn’t understand the reason behind this.
The situation reported from the border was far from encouraging. The incoming insectoids were fierce, their numbers matching the previous Fritillaria Galaxy battle.
Everyone wondered how the insectoids could launch such large-scale invasions consecutively, and they suspected if it was because their domain was overrun and couldn’t accommodate them anymore.
Once again, Officer Lyao led the troops. The night before his fleet’s departure, he sent a message to Yuri: I’ve taken Astra, Zenitha, and Electra. You’ll need to handle the alphas at the theater. Compensation as usual.
Yuri responded with a single word: Okay.
Later, Yuri sent a message to Tuss, "Are you going to the war?"
Several minutes later, Tuss replied, "Yes. There are many high-level insectoids here at the border, and there’s a Level-8 insectoid queen on the Empire’s side. It’s a queen adept at psychic power attacks."
"You’re worried that the insectoid queen might come over to the Alliance?" Yuri immediately caught the key point.
Tuss didn’t directly confirm, only said, "She’s close to us."
Tuss didn’t know if she would come over to the Alliance. The reason he told Yuri was just so she would be prepared.
To be honest, he didn’t want Yuri at the border, even if they needed her there. Compared to Yuri, the millions of others held less importance in his heart.
But the things he didn’t want or hope for were the ones most likely to happen.
So he decided it was better to tell her first.
Whether it was to think of a plan or to be mentally prepared, it was better than being caught off guard.
That night, after handling 1,500 alphas at the theater, Yuri told the soldiers, "Bring another 1,500."
The soldier hesitated and replied, "This amount is already enough, Officer Lyao has only assigned you this much. Even other SSS-tier betas can only handle two hundred a day."
"But he didn’t say we couldn’t increase it. Are there no more alphas that need grooming?" Yuri asked.
"There are. They are in another auditorium," he answered. The cost of living on Planet alpha was high. The people there were reluctant to go to hotels and would rather sleep on the floor of the auditorium.
Yuri stood up and said, "Lead the way, we’ll go there directly."
Yuri took the lead and started to walk outside. Seeing this, the soldier had no choice but to follow. He thought to himself, Officer Lyao indeed did not specify a maximum number. If Officer Yuri wants to continue processing for the alphas, it meant she still has capacity. If so, there’s no need to stop her.
Moreover, he was also curious about Yuri’s limits. Is one thousand five hundred not enough? Can be three thousand?
"Hisss—" The soldier took a sharp breath in silence. It can’t be, one thousand five hundred is already extraordinary. If she really manages three thousand, the entire galaxy will be flabbergasted.
