I Married A Degraded Alpha -
Chapter 144: No One Like Yuri
Chapter 144: No One Like Yuri
Once Yuri’s end-of-term exams were over, she learned that the Empire had gained four SSS-tier betas, and the Alliance three more. A flash of surprise crossed her face as she exclaimed, "It’s like they’re multiplying!"
Tuss nodded in agreement, "The three SSS-tier betas of the Alliance have agreed to serve the Alliance for fifteen years without compensation."
Yuri’s eyes sparkled, "Does that mean I can take a vacation now?"
"Exactly." Tuss tousled her hair. If these people thought being an SSS-tier beta was all that impressive, let them think again. His Yuri could only groom the Sea of Consciousness for fifteen hundred people a day, while they were claiming to manage thousands or even tens of thousands? Then, let them do the work.
Yuri’s face broke into a big smile, "Perfect timing! I want to spend the whole holiday in the mecha workshop you set up for me."
"We can do that. We can switch off the opticomputer; nobody can track us then." Tuss grinned mischievously.
That night, before Yuri could enter her mecha workshop, Tuss affectionately covered her with kisses from head to toe. Throughout the night, Tuss, who had been hungry for affection, took no breaks.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, Yuri thought if she had less stamina, she wouldn’t have been able to stay up all night with him.
When dawn broke, Yuri kicked him off the bed and snuggled into the blanket, falling into a deep sleep.
At Yuri’s current skill level, building a complete mecha was quite challenging. All she could do for now was construct parts of a mecha.
Fusing metals was not difficult for her, and her grades in practical sessions always topped the class.
Now in the mecha workshop with no one around, no surveillance, she felt increasingly uninhibited, sometimes even fusing metals while exploring other materials.
While she was in the workshop, Tuss also did not go out. He either trained in mecha operation, exercised Enova, read a book, or occasionally stepped out to conduct some business.
Both of them seemed to have fallen off the grid. Those who weren’t close to them had no idea what they were up to.
Astra, Zenitha, and Electra took over Yuri’s job, grooming the Sea of Consciousness daily for the alphas who came from different parts of the Alliance.
On the first day, the Alliance arranged for them to help fifteen hundred alphas, just like Yuri.
It took Yuri four hours to help fifteen hundred alphas.
For the three of them, that number was divided evenly, so each of them had to handle five hundred. Ideally, they should have finished in two hours.
However, the progress was slower than expected. After three hours, each of the SSS-tier betas had managed less than a hundred.
Seeing their pale faces and listless expressions, as though drained of energy, the guards on standby began to whisper amongst themselves.
"Didn’t they say that Yuri could handle fifteen hundred, and they could manage ten thousand? Why can’t they handle even a hundred?"
"Who knows? How can there be such a difference, all being SSS-tier betas?"
"Could they be fake SSS-tier betas?"
Astra, with her sharp ears, overheard these comments and immediately became angry. "Who are you calling fake? These are results personally verified by Professor Gawk. Doubting me is doubting Professor Gawk."
The soldier retorted unhappily, "I’m not doubting Professor Gawk, just you. Can you explain why Yuri can handle fifteen hundred people at a time, while the three of you can’t handle a hundred in three hours?"
"You’re telling me when Yuri works with fifteen hundred, it’s really fifteen hundred? I don’t believe it. I suspect you’re fudging the numbers," Astra shot back defiantly.
"Soldiers wouldn’t dare to falsify data. The names of everyone Yuri has worked with are recorded. If you don’t believe it, you can check for yourself. If you make baseless accusations about us falsifying data, then I would be more than happy to see you in military court," the soldier replied coolly.
Astra’s face changed color, and she hastily amended, "Perhaps Yuri wasn’t doing it as thoroughly as us."
The soldier laughed, clapping his hands. Several people emerged from the side, "These are the alphas Yuri has worked with. See for yourself whether she’s better or you are."
Astra, incredulous, didn’t just examine them herself but also called over Zenitha and Electra to check.
Five minutes later, Astra, Zenitha, and Electra’s faces turned incredibly sour.
At this time, one of the alphas they had worked with spoke up, "Before, people said that after Yuri had combed through their Sea of Consciousness, they felt no pain at all, they felt so relaxed, like they were back in their youth. But today, even though I had the combing, I can tell that the collapse of my Sea of Consciousness has been temporarily resolved, but I’m still in pain."
"I thought it was just me, but it seems you all feel the same. This doesn’t match the effect when Yuri worked with the alphas. Are you guys not competent enough?"
"Of course they aren’t. When Yuri worked with us, everyone fell asleep comfortably. Unlike now, we’re still suffering."
"Online, they made it sound so great, saying that sacrificing Yuri would bring happiness to millions. But who’s happy now? Only these few have benefited."
"I never said anything like that online," Electra quietly defended herself.
Astra and Zenitha’s faces grew even more grim. Both wanted to storm off, but they couldn’t; they had signed an agreement with the Alliance.
"I’ve done all I can, whether you accept the combing or not is up to you," Astra said stiffly, no longer looking at the alphas.
At this point, a soldier stepped forward, "Officer Lyao said not to compare yourselves to Yuri, who can handle fifteen hundred a day. You guys can manage two hundred a day, a hundred in the morning, a hundred in the evening. But the one requirement is you must alleviate the alphas’ pain, no cutting corners. If any alpha’s Sea of Consciousness problems recur within a year, you will still have to work on them, all the way until you complete your fifteen years of service."
Astra and Zenitha’s faces froze and darkened.
"So, we’re to serve like laborers, every day helping these low-level alphas? Wasting our time on these useless individuals for the Alliance?" Astra challenged the soldier. Having differentiated as a lofty SS-tier beta, she had always been adored and treated as superior wherever she went. She had never faced this kind of treatment before, and in her anger, she let out her true feelings.
The mood in the room suddenly became tense.
Just then, someone let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Oh, you can’t even handle the Sea of Consciousness issues of these ’low-level’ alphas. You really think any high-level alpha would need you?"
Astra pressed her lips together, glaring at the speaker.
Unfazed by her anger, the person continued, "Also, I need to correct you. Those present here aren’t the ’useless people’ you mentioned. They’re either active soldiers or veterans of the Alliance, having killed more insectoids than you can ever imagine. And those few who never served? They’ve still made substantial contributions in various industries within the Alliance. What, Miss Lewis, do you discriminate based on occupation?"
Astra was taken aback by these harsh words, and they brought her a new level of clarity. When she looked at the recording device nearby, she had no choice but to swallow her anger and grit her teeth. "No," she stated firmly. "I will work with them now. I will do my utmost to thoroughly resolve their problems."
