Chapter 330: Chapter 326 Crystal Palace
The scenery underwater is gorgeous and colorful, but one can still tire of an aquarium given enough time.
After the initial novelty wore off, Mu Ying and Windsor focused on making their way forward.
However, Mu Ying had already secretly decided to collect all the plants from the Emerald World’s seabed, including the Magic Plants; she wanted them all.
She wished the real seabed could be this beautiful.
When she saw Crystal City, her desire became even stronger.
Compared to Crystal City, the place where Lily and the others lived was like a backward, impoverished slum in the countryside, hugely shabby.
The main body of the entire city was a luxuriant crystal coral tree, each segment radiating a soft, seven-colored light, which superbly complemented the mermaids’ equally lustrous tails.
Rich in color yet not chaotic, there was a unique sense of beauty.
"This Seven-colored Crystal Coral is also a Magic Plant. It is said to be the moving kind and is still alive, continuing to grow. It must be the oldest plant in the world, with the longest growth period," Rosie explained to Mu Ying.
Every green witch visiting Crystal City for the first time would marvel at the enormous coral tree.
Mu Ying nodded in agreement, acknowledging that it must have lived for a very long time to grow so large.
In reality, the corals native to Deep Blue Star aren’t actually plants but are made up of coral polyps or their skeletal fossils; they just look like plants.
However, the corals that Lily and her friends grew for food were indeed real plants, and Mu Ying had personally tasted them.
The Crystal Coral was the same, but it was a very magical mineral Magic Plant. The branches it grew were identical to natural crystals.
She had also bought many Crystal Coral seeds from the owner, Debra. This was considered a specialty of the Undersea Mermaid Kingdom, and essentially, Mu Ying had collected all the common Crystal Corals.
Each seed was like a small, irregular crystal the size of a fingernail, and they came in a rich variety of colors: red, yellow, blue, purple, and so on.
But whether it was the seeds or the mature plants they grew into later, all were solid colors, without any bicolor, let alone seven colors.
This showed that the Seven-colored Crystal Coral was not only ancient and large, but there were also other characteristics that could not be explained simply by its size and age.
Mu Ying then asked Senior Sister Rosie if the Seven-colored Crystal Coral was any different?
Rosie shook her head, "Like crystals, Crystal Coral is a common alchemy material, though different colors may have different adaptabilities. It’s not really used in Magic Potions. At most, some witches like to use processed Crystal Coral as a dye. The Seven-colored Crystal Coral, however, is considered to have gathered the advantages of other Crystal Corals, with strong adaptability and higher overall Quality. But actually, it’s limited because Seven-colored Crystal Coral is rare, a mutation from regular Crystal Coral. If you cut a part of the Seven-colored Crystal Coral to cultivate, you will only end up with regular Crystal Coral. So, it’s more cost-effective to use the regular one, which is quite easy to cultivate anyway."
Mu Ying understood; it was just slightly more appealing to look at.
"Where should we go if we want to buy a shop?" Although Crystal City was very beautiful and seemed like a place one could stroll around for a long time, she thought it would be better to take care of business first at this moment.
Windsor also nodded, her eyes dazzled by all the handsome mermaid fellas!
Rosie patted her boyfriend to signal him to speak up.
Bertrand pointed at the bottom of the Seven-colored Coral Tree and said, "The houses under the tree are all for sale, just go to the house selling area near the trunk to select and register, or you can buy a plot of land and build your own."
It was only after his explanation that Mu Ying and Windsor understood that the Mermaid Kingdom was actually a society with clear class distinctions; the Seven-colored Crystal Coral Tree was merely the residence of the mermaid royalty and nobles, also known as the Crystal Palace.
The Crystal City often mentioned is actually the area under and around the Coral Tree, which is also made of crystal coral, but only of a single color. While still pretty, it is quite different from the Crystal Palace.
Mermaid civilians and outsiders like them all lived in the Crystal City below.
They swam down to the base of the Crystal Tree and indeed saw a Crystal House with a sign that read "Housing and Land Leasing and Sales Center."
Upon entering, they could see a miniature model of Crystal City in the center, but most of the building models looked like stone carvings, dull and grey, with only a few made of crystal like those outside.
"Are you looking to buy or rent a house?" The mermaid sales lady swam over. "The crystal models are vacant homes available for lease or sale, while the grey stone models are currently occupied."
"We’ll have a look for ourselves first!" Mu Ying said.
The model had already displayed all the information, even marking clearly which sold houses were now residences and which were shops, including the names of the shops. One could easily have a look themselves first.
The mermaid sales lady was quite laid back and, hearing this, didn’t ask further. She swam over to an indoor swing nearby and began swaying back and forth.
It seemed like a very leisurely job.
Mu Ying pulled Windsor closer to take a look. They were dazzled by choices, thinking this one looked good, that one too.
In the end, she decided to focus on their needs. "Do you know the name of Debra’s tavern in the undersea?"
Windsor shook her head, just as Senior Sister Rosie was about to answer, the mermaid sales lady swinging beside them spoke up: "Are you talking about Witch Debra? Her tavern is called Witch Tavern, located on the twelfth street."
"Thank you," Mu Ying didn’t expect her to know Debra. They found the twelfth street, and sure enough, they saw a Crystal House with a sign that read "Witch Tavern."
Thinking it would be nice to be close by so that she and Windsor could sneak off for a drink during a busy day, she decided to set up her shop on the twelfth street as well.
This street seemed suitable, apparently a business street, with basically all kinds of shops around, even a Magic Pharmacy.
However, there were no vacant Crystal Houses left on this street, just a few unoccupied plots of land.
"Why don’t you build one yourself? Crystal Coral is quite easy to cultivate and shape, a bit more natural than what mermaid craftsmen make," Senior Sister Rosie suggested, seeing their hesitation.
Mu Ying and Windsor exchanged glances. "What do you think?"
"Either is fine. We can stay in a hotel first and take our time to design it," Windsor agreed. "I’ve never designed a house by hand myself!"
In the Witch Forest, she did find a spot where she wanted to settle down, but while her ideas were plenty, her execution fell short, managing only half of it. She intended to return and finish it after the trials, but it looked like she might not be returning for a long time, so that incomplete attempt doesn’t count.
"But the construction will have to rely on you."
Windsor added, her ability in Plant Magic was poor, nowhere near the level required for rapid growth.
