I Live on the Land in Global Games -
Chapter 198 - 195 Dingling Flower
Chapter 198: Chapter 195 Dingling Flower
The first-year little witches had also been at the academy for over three months now and had adapted to life there, even having visited the Four Seasons Market during the Summer Month.
They had generally identified their talents and decided on the direction they would delve deeper into.
Except when it came to magical talent, Mu Ying and the little witches had different inclinations, so she couldn’t give them too much advice and only offered a bit of guidance in other areas.
Therefore, everyone’s immediate senior was firmly established and not changed further.
Tana and Mu Ying did share some common interests, and although Tana had little interest or talent in alchemy, she was extremely keen on Herbal Cultivation.
Unlike Mu Ying, who used Plant Magic to nurture plants, Tana’s magic power worked more on the soil, changing the fertility of the land, which could also produce an effect similar to that of Mu Ying in accelerating plant growth; it just meant that cultivating magic plants would be a bit slower.
Perhaps related to Tana’s own experiences, she developed a great interest in all magic that could improve daily life.
Her partiality in Herbal Cultivation was particularly evident in edible plants, to the extent that her small Medicine Field resembled a Vegetable Garden.
Her passion for Cooking Magic was similar, and she was even researching Weaving Magic on her own.
She could only weave objects with their inherent attributes, rather than Alchemy which could imbue items with various special effects.
This was a type of Life Magic akin to Cooking Magic, which was easy to learn but hard to master and required a certain understanding of the woven items.
Mu Ying, who had never even knitted a scarf, was unable to help her.
Tina preferred combat, so she learned battle skills and wilderness survival knowledge from Lillian.
Shela, on the other hand, was like Senior Lucia, spending most of her time immersed in the library.
She showed no interest in anything else, focusing only on the magic related to her own talent.
Windsor and she were both water-aligned, though Shela was Ice and Snow Magic, and despite being different, there were some similarities. Windsor’s Ice and Snow Magic was always stronger than Lillian’s and Mu Ying’s, but she couldn’t offer much help, focusing more on caring for Shela in daily life.
So, day to day, the little witches attended their classes in the morning while Mu Ying and her peers researched their areas of specialization, organizing their queries and recording them to resolve during Friday’s teaching sessions with the witches specialized in those fields.
They also focused on learning the magic that would be immediately useful after graduation, which they hadn’t learned or mastered yet in the previous term, or preparing items to sell at the next Four Seasons Market, getting ready for graduation.
In the afternoon, everyone would spend time guiding their younger sisters, slowly teaching them how to manage the affairs of the academy.
Now, Tana’s Cooking Magic had improved a lot—though the taste, dishes, and proficiency weren’t quite at Mu Ying’s level yet—she was able to feed everyone, and thus she was primarily responsible for cooking the three daily meals, providing her with more opportunities to practice.
For Mu Ying, afternoons were spent working with Tana in the Medicine Field.
While Mu Ying studied the nurturing of magic plants, Tana managed her Medicine Field, and Mu Ying taught her some greenhouse management techniques.
When she graduated, the greenhouse and the Medicine Field would all be handed over to Tana to manage.
Today was no exception.
Mu Ying finally saw the blossoms of the Dingling Flower she had picked to test from the seed bag in the greenhouse.
A Dingling Flower bloomed like a tiny bell, its clusters full and heavy.
Upon closer inspection, most of the blossoms were twin flowers connected by slender stems. When the wind blew, they made a tinkling sound.
The book recorded that this flower could bear a maximum of twelve petals on one base to form a full bloom. Twin flowers did not produce seeds, only a few single flowers within could yield seeds. Her plant of Dingling Flower mostly bore eleven-petal flowers, and with ten single flowers, there were indeed enough seeds for propagation.
As the book described, she used Cutting Magic to simultaneously pluck all groups of twin flowers and placed them to soak in rows of Permanent Magic Potion she had prepared earlier, specifically for processing these flowers. All twins from the same group were immersed in the same glass jar, leaving only the quality single flowers on the branches.
"Senior, can these flowers really talk?" Tana asked curiously, squatting beside her.
"It’s not the flowers that talk, but the twin flowers that can transmit sound. One person can hold one and talk across the air. With these flowers, even if the seniors graduate next year, you can still use them to keep in touch with us," Mu Ying thought this was much like a magic version of a telephone, only without dialing functionality. The contacts were set, and it could connect to as many people as the number of petals on the flower.
"Really?" Tana’s eyes lit up upon hearing this, feeling unhappy at the thought of only spending one more year with the seniors. It would be so much better with Dingling Flowers.
"Though the effect of this flower is good, it’s extremely delicate and slow-growing. It only became much stronger after I accidentally used Life Magic on it, otherwise, I reckon it wouldn’t survive. If you want to cultivate it, you need to be careful..." Mu Ying began explaining to her the cultivation techniques for Dingling Flowers.
Seeing Tana looking bewildered, Mu Ying chuckled and ruffled her fluffy little head, "Don’t worry, I’ll add the key points of cultivation to that book in the greenhouse."
"Okay!" Tana nodded obediently, but she estimated she probably wouldn’t succeed. Her Plant Magic and Life Magic were just average, and she wasn’t able to concoct Permanent Magic Potion either.
"If you can’t grow this one, next year you can try other herbal medicines that are more compatible with you, some of which require the nourishment of the soil to grow well," Mu Ying said, perceiving her thoughts.
After soaking the Dingling Flowers, Mu Ying waved her Magic Wand, sealing each glass bottle, which she then buried deep in the soil surrounding the Dingling Flowers.
"All set. Now, we simply wait for the single Dingling Flower seeds to mature, and the transformation of the double petals will be complete," Mu Ying sighed with relief.
This was one of the plants she valued most when selecting from the seed cabinet, and now she had successfully cultivated most of it.
Once the seeds matured, she could transform a few into the real world. Communication devices made from Dingling Flowers were sure to sell well.
Nature is full of wonders—with even natural little telephone plants existing—it was truly fascinating.
The wait turned out to be a month, during which other witches had heard about the Dingling Flowers and had come to see them several times.
They joined her in anticipating the maturation of the Dingling seeds.
Ultimately, it was on a gorgeous sunny day when the petals of the Single Flower finally withered away, and the tiny seeds fell to the ground, caught by the soft cloth Mu Ying had laid out.
A total of ten seeds were harvested, three of which she returned to the seed bag.
Originally, there were only two seeds of Dingling Flower in the seed bag. She took one for the experiment, and now she was placing back three, hoping that in the future, another little witch would succeed in growing it again.
Next, she planned to leave one seed for her junior Tana, who was interested in cultivation, send three to Senior Lucia, and keep three for herself—one to transform into the real world. She calculated there was still time to grow another batch before graduation, save one as a seed, and keep one as spare.
This was also because within the range of a mile, only one Dingling Flower plant could be grown.
