Chapter 130 - 129: Corporate Slave Priest
Chapter 130: Chapter 129: Corporate Slave Priest
It was almost time to draw blood from the Petrified Lizard again, so Mu Ying planned to head back to the Plantation to concoct an Unconscious Potion.
Now, the Tree House in her territory was only used for living; instead, the one at the Plantation had been expanded time and time again, becoming her main base. Anything that was inconvenient for others to see was stored here.
Upon entering, there was an open kitchen even more fully equipped than the one in the Tree House, with a small dining area and a resting area. To the left of the entrance, one room was for storing the territory’s income and another for the residents’ savings.
To the right, the outer room was her workshop, while the inner one was a storage room.
The workshop was not large, with a 4m x 2m solid wood workbench by the window, on which was placed a crucible and other apparatus for concocting Magic Potions.
The windows were large, brightening up the whole room when opened.
Behind the workbench was a wall-sized medicine cabinet, some of which had already been fitted with wooden plaques inscribed with the names of herbal medicines, containing her prepared herbs.
Next to the medicine cabinet was a cabinet for finished products, storing some potions she had practiced making.
Mu Ying had made the desk and medicine cabinet herself little by little with the Shaping Wood Skill.
She took a porcelain dish, fetched the corresponding herbs from the cabinet, and then processed and simmered them on the workbench.
By noon, she had finished concocting the Magic Potions and rubbed her somewhat sore shoulders.
Looking up, she saw the miniature Shi Yin sitting on the windowsill, nodding off with her chin resting in her hands, her head bobbing. Mu Ying smiled knowingly.
Her gaze then moved outside the window to see Old Yellow Bull leisurely strolling in the yard, while Yuan Gungun sat indifferently nibbling on Iron Bamboo, continuously watching this way.
Mu Ying had felt that Gungun had been acting odd since yesterday, not playing in the bamboo forest by himself, and even going to the eateries less to feast.
No matter where she went or what she did, he would just sit there politely, always staring in her direction, not coming over to bother her.
Even the way Gungun nibbled bamboo carried a perfunctory air, indicating how serious the issue was.
Looking at his Attributes, there didn’t seem to be any changes.
Mu Ying packed up the Magic Potions, tidied the workbench, and walked over to Gungun, "What’s wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell? Is the Iron Bamboo not to your taste anymore?"
Gungun shook his head, and as if to prove that Iron Bamboo was quite to his liking, he crunched through half a stalk. This vigor was nowhere like before.
It seemed that the problem was not with the Iron Bamboo, so Mu Ying asked, "Then why are you always staring at me? When I was busy before, you used to play on your own, didn’t you?"
Gungun: ?
I’m not looking at you!
Mu Ying: "..."
All right, maybe she was just being paranoid; perhaps he was just staring blankly in her direction?
Still somewhat concerned, she asked, "Are you sure there’s nothing uncomfortable about you?"
Gungun nodded his head. He was very comfortable.
For the time being, Mu Ying felt at ease, went inside to cook, and occasionally glanced back to see Yuan Gungun still sitting there in a daze, looking in roughly the same direction as before, indeed not staring at her.
After lunch, Mu Ying took the Magic Potions and teleported to the Breeding Camp.
There weren’t many people at the Breeding Camp; only Liu Luoluo herself, Uncle Li who was responsible for looking after the pasture animals and slaughtering them, and Aunt Wang, who was in charge of cooking food for the Petrified Lizard.
The three of them managed the Breeding Camp quite well; Mu Ying even made them official residents, and they each had their own rest area in the Camp.
The rest were mostly those with greater mobility, like the people who gathered thorny ball grass.
Liu Luoluo was observing the Petrified Lizards behind the isolation barrier. Two female lizards were pregnant. Seeing Mu Ying approaching, she happily dragged her into her own rest area to chat.
"I haven’t seen you for so long," Liu Luoluo was pouring tea and offering snacks, "This is an orange I just bought this morning at the trading hall; they’re pretty sweet. Try one. I made the tea myself."
There were many citrus farmers around Qingshan Town, so recently the hunting teams would often bring back some oranges, though how sweet they were varied.
Mu Ying peeled and ate a segment; indeed, it was good—but why did Liu Luoluo look at her with such pity in her eyes?
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"You’ve been working so hard for our territory; you’re so dedicated. Don’t forget to take breaks and relax every now and then; don’t be too tense," as she spoke, Liu Luoluo encouragingly patted her shoulder.
Mu Ying was perplexed, filled with question marks.
She slept until she naturally woke up every day, ate well, drank well—where was the hardship?
"Are there some weird rumors about me in the territory again?"
"Recently, you were nowhere to be seen in the territory. Later, everyone found out that you’ve been going to Chaotic Stone Forest to practice spells before dawn and only returning at night. You’re already so powerful and yet you work so hard. Everyone feels you’re doing it for the territory, and lately, there has even been a craze for intensive training sweeping through the territory!"
She was familiar with the first half of the story. While practicing the Summoning Lightning Skill, the constant thunderclaps in the Chaotic Stone Forest on a clear day had naturally caught the attention of people active in the area.
At first, everyone thought it was a Magic Beast, and for several days, no one dared enter the Chaotic Stone Forest.
The misunderstanding wasn’t cleared up until one morning, when she encountered Professor Su and his spouse leaving the Quarry Camp. They warned her to be cautious of the lightning-striking monster outside.
But she hadn’t been going before dawn; she clearly went only for a while in the morning and a bit at night. How had it turned into practicing all day long?
Just as she wanted to explain, Liu Luoluo continued speaking.
"I really admire your perseverance. I’ve been singing praises of him so much that I’m running out of compliments, yet he remains aloof, driving me crazy. But whenever I see you working so hard, I get inspired all over again," Liu Luoluo said, pointing upwards when she referred to "him."
She meant the God that her Priest profession had chosen to serve. To be precise, not one, but many.
If Druids negotiate with nature in a two-way conversation, Priests are like job seekers.
In a job fair full of divine ’companies,’ a novice Priest goes around handing out resumes.
After finding a few companies they like, they submit their resumes and network.
During this phase, the companies display their benefits and doctrines. The rookie Priests can intern there, even work several gigs at once; they receive a modest compensation, which is a feedback of Strength, akin to an internship period.
Until they reach a high enough level and get recruited by a company, the Priest’s service to a particular God becomes official. Then the relationship gets closer, they earn a regular salary, and as long as they don’t screw up, they won’t be kicked out. It then becomes about flattering the boss, working hard for the company, and hoping for promotions and raises.
When Mu Ying learned of all this, she was glad to have chosen to be a Druid.
Nature had never been cold to her; rather, it was always warm and inviting.
"How do you practice your spells?" Mu Ying asked curiously.
"After asking repeatedly, sometimes you get a little something. As long as you keep asking and it’s granted, you’ll learn it," Liu Luoluo spread her hands. As a single child who grew up in modern society and was still in university, she hadn’t been toughened up by the blows of society yet and found it hard to humble herself to that extent.
