Chapter 68: SYSTEM IS A GIRL

Junior’s heart sank as he read the list. He had been hoping for something different, something that would give him an edge. But instead, all the important skills were locked. "Why are all of her skills locked except one?" he groaned, slumping back against the bed. "So right now my chances of getting the skill I want have dropped drastically." He felt a wave of frustration wash over him. "No wonder the system gave me that 30% notification. This is literally what we call scamming."

Junior let out a dramatic sigh, his frustration etched deeply on his face. "This is terrible. All my luck’s just gone down the drain," he lamented, slumping onto the edge of his bed.

Just as he was about to drown in his thoughts, the glowing system prompt reappeared before him, its sudden appearance grabbing his full attention:

[<••> Are you going to spin for the random skills you want?]

Junior’s irritation flared as he stared at the message. He jabbed a finger toward the floating screen, his voice tinged with frustration. "Hey, system, are you deliberately making it harder for me? Give me a break! I almost died! At least give me some OP skills I can use to speed blitz my opponents!"

The screen flickered slightly before the system’s response appeared, its tone almost mocking.

[Hmmm... Won’t that kill the fun of adventuring?]

[If you are a true otaku and gamer, you would enjoy the thrill of going from weak to strong. And you have sex as a bonus—what more do you want?]

Junior blinked at the unexpected response, then rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He rested his other hand on his cheek, adopting a classic "thinking" pose. "The way you say it... makes sense," he admitted reluctantly, though his tone was still unsure.

[You see, I’m right. So, would you please spin the gacha?]

Junior sighed, stretching his fingers as he prepared to press the spin button. Just as his hand hovered over the floating icon, a thought struck him. He froze, his gaze narrowing suspiciously. "Wait a second. Why does this system only interact with me when it’s time to give me skills I’ve earned... through sex?"

The screen flickered again, as if the system was momentarily stunned by the question.

[Hmmm...]

[Does it matter?]

[°••°]

"Yes, it does! It may not matter to you, but to me, it’s important," Junior retorted, crossing his arms defiantly.

The system’s response took longer this time, as though it were carefully crafting its reply.

[Hmm... Since you want to know so badly why I always appear during skill distribution, you could say it’s to help you pick a skill that will assist you in the long run.]

Junior’s expression didn’t soften. Instead, he raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Really? I feel like you’re just here to make it harder for me to get the OP skills on the list," he said, his tone sharp with accusation.

[Really?]

"Yes," Junior replied firmly, his resolve unwavering.

The system’s next response was instant and petulant:

[System is sulking at what you just said.]

[System has decided to give you a skill *it* wants and has removed the 30% chance to get a higher skill.]

The words hit Junior like a hammer. His eyes widened in sheer panic, and his mouth fell open. "What?! You can’t do this!"

[Watch me 😡💢]

"Hey, hey, why? Did I say something wrong?" Junior’s voice cracked slightly, his earlier confidence dissolving into confusion and desperation. He ran a hand through his hair, clearly flustered.

[Dummy.]

Before he could utter another word, a new prompt appeared before him, cutting off any chance of protest.

[Due to Emma Watt having only one skill unlocked, the skill will be automatically given to you.]

"Nooooo!" Junior screamed dramatically, collapsing onto his knees. His hands clutched his head as he bent forward, his face nearly touching the floor. He stayed in that defeated position as if mourning the loss of something precious.

The system, undeterred by his theatrics, continued with its announcement:

[Skill Obtained.]

[1. Gale Step] [Unlocked]

It then read out the skill details in its usual neutral tone:

**Type:** Active / Movement

**Description:** You can use wind magic to enhance agility, allowing you to move at incredible speeds. With each step, you are momentarily lifted by gusts of air, enabling you to leap great distances, run on walls, or evade attacks effortlessly.

**Cooldown:** Short (usable in quick succession).

**Limitations:** Difficult to maintain in areas with unstable air currents or magical barriers.

Junior’s head slowly lifted from the ground. His earlier despair gave way to cautious curiosity as he processed the skill’s description. A spark of excitement began to form in his eyes. "Wait... this skill... is actually useful," he muttered to himself.

Without wasting a moment, he opened his skill page to reread the Gale Step’s usage. As he read through the details again, a smile gradually spread across his face. "Thank you, system!" he said, his tone sincere for the first time since the conversation began.

[Don’t mention it.]

[System is holding her face while blushing uncontrollably.]

Junior stared at the new message, his brows furrowing slightly. "Hey, system... are you a girl? I thought systems don’t have genders," he said, his voice tinged with curiosity.

The system’s response was immediate and defensive:

[You dummy.]

[System is angry with you and has walked away.]

"Hey, system, why are you mad?" Junior called out, his voice a mix of confusion and concern. He waited for a response, but the screen remained blank. After a few moments of silence, he scratched the back of his head, looking genuinely puzzled. "I don’t know what I said that made her angry," he muttered, shaking his head slightly.

He flopped back onto the bed, staring at the glowing screen still floating above him. Despite the system’s sudden silence, the faint smile on his face lingered. The Gale Step skill had turned out to be a pleasant surprise, and for the first time in a while, he felt a small spark of optimism about his situation.

As the quiet settled in, Junior’s thoughts began to wander. He replayed the interaction in his head, trying to piece together where things had gone wrong. "Maybe I shouldn’t have asked about her being a girl," he murmured to himself. "But can systems even get offended? And what’s with that blushing thing? Is this system... sentient?"

The thought sent a small shiver down his spine. He sat up abruptly, his eyes narrowing at the still-blank screen. "If the system is alive... then what else don’t I know about it?"

His musings were interrupted by a faint, almost inaudible beep. The screen flickered briefly, and another message appeared:

[System is peeking at you from the corner but refuses to talk.]

Junior couldn’t help but laugh, the tension in his body easing as he read the message. "You’re such a tsundere," he said, shaking his head.

[System is now blushing furiously but still refuses to talk.]

"Alright, alright, I’m sorry," Junior said with a chuckle. "I didn’t mean to upset you. You’re the best system I’ve ever had. Happy?"

The screen remained blank for a few moments before a single message appeared:

[Fine. I forgive you... dummy.]

Junior smiled, leaning back against his pillows. "Thanks, system. Let’s keep working together, okay?"

[Okay. But don’t forget, you owe me for making me angry.]

"Owe you? What do you mean by that?" Junior asked, but the system offered no further explanation. Instead, the screen disappeared, leaving him alone in the dimly lit room.

He let out a small sigh, the smile still lingering on his face. "This system might be a pain, but at least it keeps things interesting," he muttered to himself. With a new skill unlocked and a strange but endearing relationship with the system, Junior felt a renewed sense of motivation to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead.

As he lay back and stared at the ceiling, he couldn’t help but wonder what the future held. "I just hope the next time doesn’t involve me almost dying again," he said with a dry chuckle.

Somewhere, unseen and unheard, the system silently watched, its presence lingering as Junior drifted into his thoughts.
