Part 2
After enjoying some skiing, Lexia-san called out,
“Everyone! Let’s go to the top of the mountain!”
“That’s fine, but… what’s the sudden idea?”
Luna asked curiously. Lexia-san continued,
“Well, we’ve all come here together, so I want to do something memorable. The view is great here, and I think we’ll see an even better view from higher up!”
“That’s a great idea! I’m in! But… is Kaori-san okay with that?”
Everyone except Kaori seemed to have no problem skiing down from the top of the mountain. However, Kaori still didn’t have the skills to do so.
Still, Kaori smiled.
“It’s okay. We don’t have to ski down from the top. There seems to be a chairlift going down, so don’t worry.”
“I see! If Kaori is okay with it, then let’s all go to the top of the mountain together!”
With that decided, we immediately got on the lift and headed for the top.
As we rode up, everyone was amazed by the scenery spreading out around us.
“Wow… The open-air bath was great, but the view from the lift is also amazing!”
As Kaori said, the view from the chairlift was different from the one from the open-air bath, but equally beautiful.
We all enjoyed the scenery as we finally reached the top of the mountain.
It was usually crowded with visitors, but this time, we were the only ones there. There was no one in the mountain hut either.
On such a special day, the view before us at the top was…
“Ah…”
…a sea of white mountains stretching out before us.
The sight was so magnificent that everyone was mesmerized. Even Lexia-san, who usually spoke first, was speechless.
As we stood there, admiring the breathtaking view, Kaori spoke up.
“I was surprised to see the filming crew when we arrived at the inn. But climbing all the way to the top of the mountain with everyone and seeing such a beautiful view… This will be an unforgettable memory.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“Really? Can we ride that thing back? Then everyone should come here to see this view!”
Lexia-san was right. Seeing this view alone made riding the lift worthwhile.
Then I noticed Merl shivering.
“Merl, are you okay?”
“I’m sorry. I think I got a little cold.”
“We’ve already skied enough, so maybe we should head back down on the lift.”
“That’s a good idea! Can we take another bath before we go home?”
“That might be difficult.”
Just as I said that…
Swosh!
“Wha—?”
“Kyaaahhhhhhhhh!”
“Why did it suddenly start snowing so hard?”
“This is bad… I’ve never seen snow like this before.”
Suddenly, a fierce blizzard hit us.
“Le-Let’s hurry to that mountain hut over there!”
“Y-yeah!”
We hurriedly took refuge in the mountain hut at the top.
Once everyone was safely inside, we took a moment to catch our breath.
“Wh-What just happened?”
Just a moment ago… No, there was really no warning at all. The blizzard hit us out of nowhere.
I’d heard that mountain weather could be unpredictable, but could it really change this drastically?
This was impossible! There hadn’t been a single cloud in the sky!
It was as if someone had turned the pages of a book; in an instant, a blizzard had begun to rage. You wouldn’t normally expect this.
Confused by this inexplicable situation, Kaori and the others, who had been searching inside the mountain hut, looked troubled.
“What’s wrong?”
“Well, we can’t turn on the heating.”
“What!?”
In the middle of this blizzard, the heating wasn’t working.
I thought maybe the blizzard would stop soon, given the strange weather, but looking out the window, it didn’t seem like it was diminishing—if anything, it was getting worse.
On top of that…
“Ugh!”
“I-It’s cold…”
If I wasn’t imagining things, the temperature was dropping rapidly.
Because of that, not only was Merl huddled up and shivering from the cold, but everyone else was too.
This isn’t good…
Given the unusual weather, I was sure the inn staff must have noticed something. But even if they did and requested help, it would be impossible for anyone to come to our rescue in this blizzard.
Then, Luna, who had also noticed that something was wrong, approached me.
“Yuuya, no matter how you look at it, this situation is definitely strange.”
“Yeah. But I have no idea what’s going on.”
“Do you sense anything unusual?”
“Hmm… Not particularly…”
“…So, either there’s an unknown force at work, or this is just a normal weather phenomenon.”
“…I’m leaning towards the former.”
“Don’t worry. I think so too. Yuuya is here, after all.”
“Luna-san?”
The way you said that made it sound like I was always getting into trouble… No, I always got into trouble.
“But now isn’t the time to talk about that. What are we going to do about this situation?”
Under normal circumstances, I would have hidden my powers. However, in this emergency, it was pointless, so I used my teleportation magic to escape immediately.
But…
“What!?”
“Huh?”
When I shouted, Luna tilted her head.
“Is something wrong?”
“…I can’t use magic.”
“What!?”
That’s right. I tried to activate the teleportation magic, but for some reason, it didn’t work properly.
Upon hearing this, Luna immediately tried to activate her magic, but…
“…What the hell? I really can’t use magic.”
As expected, Luna couldn’t use magic either.
“Then, let’s try Divine Authority…”
Since magic wasn’t working, I tried other powers that might allow me to teleport.
However…
“It’s no use. There’s no response at all.”
Somehow, all my powers were blocked and couldn’t function properly.
This included the Door to Another World… so we were completely trapped in this blizzard barrier.
After checking, I found that the Item Box still worked. It seemed that only the power to escape this place was being blocked.
“For now, everyone, take this.”
“T-This is…?”
I pulled out the monster fur that I had stored in the Item Box and distributed it to everyone.
“Um, I found it when I searched the hut.”
“I see…”
I told them that the furs were already in the hut, but that didn’t solve the problem.
I tried using the portable bath set, too, but the water froze instantly due to the extreme cold.
I thought I could use the crystal deer horns the same way, but they froze, too, and I couldn’t use them.
…This cold was simply too extreme.
Even the furs I prepared only had a minimal effect.
I wish there was an item in the Item Box that could resolve this situation.
More importantly, what’s going on?
Then, Kaede, who had been huddled up, anxiously opened her mouth.
“W-we’re going to die here…”
“I-it’ll be okay. It’ll definitely be okay…”
The effect on Kaede and Kaori, who had no special powers, was tremendous. The two of them hugged each other, their faces white. [T/N: I’m not sure, but hasn’t Kaori already leveled up?]
Lexia-san spoke brightly to the two of them.
“That’s right! Yuuya-sama will definitely do something. So, just a little more patience…”
“Yeah… Come to think of it, I’m starting to feel sleepy.”
“M-me too…”
“This is bad. Kaede and Kaori have reached their physical limits.”
“Ugh!”
As Luna said, the two of them were on the verge of falling asleep.
If this continued, they’d freeze to death.
Was there no way to escape?
“──Fu, fufufu. Humans, humans.”
──At that moment, an eerie woman’s voice suddenly echoed in my ears.

Meanwhile, Oki and the others rushed toward the site where signs of mutation appeared.
But…
“Director! Something’s wrong!”
A staff member monitoring the signs of mutation shouted in alarm.
“…Yes, this is bad. This intensity…even Yuuya-kun would be in danger.”
Oki, who wasn’t using observation equipment, could sense the changes in the signs as she approached the site.
Then…
“The mutation… has awakened!”
──That was the news: a Level 4 mutation had awakened.
