Part 2

The day of the long-awaited Christmas party had finally arrived.

“Welcome, everyone!”

We had arrived at Kaori’s house, where the party was being held.

“Oh…”

“I-It’s huge…”

“As expected of the daughter of a wealthy family…”

Kaori’s house was a massive mansion—the kind you would call a luxurious estate—boasting of a large property, the kind a foreign celebrity might live in.

However, because it was such a large mansion, Kaori’s house was naturally far from the school.

“I knew her house was far away, but I never imagined it would be this big…”

“Kaori-san! How do you get to school?”

Kaori answered Kaede’s question with a smile.

“It’s not every day, but I usually get a ride to and from school.”

“I-I see…”

“We live in completely different worlds.”

Most students commuted on foot, by bicycle, or by train, but Kaori travelled by car.

As Yukine said, it was a world far removed from ours.

When Lexia-san and the others saw Kaori’s house, they spoke up.

“Kaori! Thank you for inviting us! What a wonderful house!”

“Yeah… Judging by the size of the house, Kaori must be equivalent to nobility in our world. But, unlike the overly ornate houses of nobles in our world, Kaori’s house has a sense of refinement.”

“Agreed. It’s beautiful.”

“Since I’ve never seen a wealthy house on this planet before, I’m really looking forward to seeing it.”

Seeing the reactions of Lexia-san and the others who weren’t from this world, Kaori laughed.

“Fufu. Please make yourselves comfortable. I’ll show you to the room!”

Following her guidance, we immediately entered the house.

The interior looked like a movie set, with neatly arranged paintings and pots.

…I bet everything displayed there was incredibly expensive.

As I looked around with such petty thoughts, we arrived at the room she was leading us to.

“Here we are.”

“Wow…”

When we entered, the room was as large as a classroom.

However, it was empty, without any furniture or anything else in it.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t have much time to prepare, so it’s a small room…”

“Small? It’s more than big enough!”

“Th-This is small… with this much space?”

Everyone except Princess Lexia was stunned by Kaori’s words. Kaori tilted her head.

“Is that so? Well, all the furniture has been moved to another room, so it may feel spacious.”

“Did you move all the furniture out of the room just for this party?”

Ryo exclaimed in surprise. Kaori nodded.

“Yes! I wanted to decorate it, but I couldn’t quite get it right on my own. So, I emptied the room so we could decorate it together. Once the decorations are finished, we’ll put the furniture back.”

Kaori decided the furniture would get in the way, so she moved it out.

Caught off guard by the unexpected situation, Ryo muttered in disbelief.

“For decorating… We didn’t prepare anything that elaborate…”

“Yeah… Just some cheap Christmas decorations that we bought at a variety store or a 100-yen shop.”

“Hmm… I guess we underestimated how amazing Kaori is. We should have put up a Christmas tree.”

“No, no, no! We can’t carry it!”

“That’s where the boys come in.”

“You’re leaving it all to us?”

Ryo retorted immediately to Rin’s words, and Kaori opened her mouth.

“Oh, if you mean a Christmas tree, we have one ready.”

“You’re lying, right!?”

Everyone was surprised by her unexpected words. But Kaori clapped her hands, and the butler and maids brought in a magnificent Christmas tree. They decorated it and left with a flourish.

“How is it?”

“…Rich people are amazing.”

“Yeah, but how are we going to decorate it?”

“In that case, how about this?”

“Huh?”

Kaori clapped her hands, and the butler and maids brought in a large mounted deer head.

“Wait, what!?”

“Th-This is…”

While everyone was surprised by the mounted head, Kaori continued with a smile.

“Actually, I wanted a taxidermied reindeer, but I couldn’t find one, so I got this instead. How about this for decoration?”

“No, I know it’s supposed to be a substitute for a reindeer, but isn’t it a bit bizarre?”

Ryo was right. A mounted deer head at a Christmas party? Yeah.

In response to Ryo’s remark, Kaori looked puzzled.

“Huh? Is it weird?”

“…No, it’s just that our sensibilities are too different.”

“Um… Kaori… I appreciate you preparing it, but I think it’s a bit much for this party.”

When I said that, Kaori nodded in agreement.

“You’re right. It might be a little too flashy.”

“Exactly!”

Everyone nodded in agreement, so Kaori called the butler again and had him put the stuffed deer head away.

However, Kaori began to worry again.

“But what should we do? I can’t think of any other decorations…”

“Well, come to think of it, it seems like we have enough decorations, so I think it’ll be fine! Right?”

“Y-Yeah!”

Ryo said hurriedly. He didn’t want anything unexpected to be brought in. Shingo nodded in agreement.

“Is that so? Then, let’s proceed as is for now. If anything is missing, please don’t hesitate to let me know!”

“Th-Thank you.”

She was really excited… I guess that meant Kaori was really looking forward to this party. Though I was surprised at how different our sensibilities were.

As we were talking, Lexia-san clapped her hands.

“Come on! Kaori prepared the room and the tree, so let’s start decorating!”

“L-Let’s do it.”

We were grateful to Kaori for getting everything ready, so we started decorating with the items that Ryo and the others had prepared in advance.

“Okay! It’s looking pretty good, isn’t it?”

At first, we thought we didn’t have enough decorations and that it might look bare, but it turned out better than expected.

“Now that we’re done decorating, let’s bring in the furniture.”

“Oh! Then we should go pick up the cake, too, shouldn’t we?”

“Cake?”

I tilted my head, not understanding what they meant, and Shingo explained.

“A-Actually, Ryo-kun ordered a cake for Christmas from the shop where Akira-kun works.”

“Oh, I see!”

Then Ryo nodded.

“You’re right. It would be more efficient if one of us went to pick it up.”

“Then I’ll go.”

When I said that, Ryo looked surprised.

“Are you sure? It’s pretty far from here… Do you know where the store is?”

“Yeah, it’s okay. I remember where Akira was handing out flyers before.”

Kaori’s house was a bit far from town, so it was quite a distance just to buy a cake.

But that’s why I thought it would be quicker if I went.

I could put the cake in my Item Box. And if I moved to a quiet place, I could use my teleportation magic to get back in an instant.

It would be weird to go out and come back right away, though, so I’ll just go normally. But it was not far, so I’d be back in no time.

With that confident statement, Ryo nodded.

“Got it. Can I count on you then? While Yuuya goes to pick up the cake, we’ll move the furniture inside.”

“Got it!”

Saying that, I headed to the cake shop where Akira was working.

***

While everyone else was enjoying their winter break, Yuzuki was preparing to return to his parents’ house.

Since his family home was far from Ousei Academy, he lived alone near the academy. He had been instructed to return home during long vacations.

After finishing his preparations and leaving the house, he found a black car and a man waiting for him.

“Yuzuki-sama, we’ve come to pick you up.”

“…Yeah.”

Yuzuki got into the car, prompted by the man.

“Then we’ll head to the main house.”

“…”

That’s right; this man was from the main house. In other words, he was a Komyouin family messenger who had come to pick up Yuzuki.

On the surface, it seemed like he was being treated with great care, but the reality was very different.

“(To make sure I don’t escape, huh?)”

Due to his unique family environment, Yuzuki had had few opportunities to interact with people his own age.

He often came into contact with the children of families active in the underworld, but this was his first time interacting with peers with no connection to the underworld.

Yuzuki was sent to Ousei Academy to meet Yuuya and experience things he had never experienced at the Komyouin family home.

At the Komyouin family home, Yuzuki was thoroughly trained from childhood to fight for his family.

However, Teruyoshi was reluctant to allow him to make contact with the outside world, even if it was to bring Yuuya into the family, for fear that it would have some kind of psychological effect on him.

For that reason, someone else was sent to keep an eye on Yuzuki.

“(I have no intention of running away. Besides, my father knows that I can’t escape.)”

In fact, Yuzuki was bound to the Komyuin family by a secret technique.

Therefore, even without surveillance, it was impossible for Yuzuki to escape.

As the car swayed, Yuzuki recalled his battle with Yuuya.

“(Yuuya Tenjou… At first, I thought he was just an ordinary person with no special powers, but I was wrong. He may not be able to use powers like mine, but he has outstanding talent in every area. Above all, his physical abilities are extraordinary.)”

Yuzuki looked out the window.

“(If I had talent like his… Could I have lived more freely than I do now?)”

With these thoughts in mind, Yuzuki returned to his family home.
