Chapter 38: Just ’Good Luck’!

Rin snapped, glancing around to make sure no one was watching them..

"What the hell are you doing?!"

Lucien looked up, with his lips still on Rin’s hand.

"Isn’t it obvious? I’m removing the blessing kiss."

"...What?"

Lucien smirked, straightening up.

"Priests can bless with kisses. It could be on the knuckles or forehead. There are other means too, but those are the popular means of blessing. I just erased his touch... But not his Divine blessing."

Rin’s face scrunched.

"Creepy holy kisses... No wonder they burn my hand,"

"Anyway... you’re welcome," Lucien said with a smug look on his face.

Rin rolled his eyes.

"Welcome? Did I ask for your help?"

"You needed it. You were five seconds away from getting caught by that priest. He would have seen your past and discovered your gender."

Rin turned to him.

"And how the hell did you even find me here?"

Lucien shrugged, tilting his head like it was obvious.

"I followed your scent."

Rin stared.

"What are you? A dog?"

Lucien grinned.

"If you’re the prize, I don’t mind being a bloodhound."

Rin gagged.

Lucien’s gaze dropped to Rin’s earlobes, and he reached out, touching the silver earrings.

"However, your scent has been faint these days... Is it because of these?"

Rin slapped his hand away.

"Don’t touch those."

"They’re artifacts, aren’t they?" Lucien said.

Rin blinked.

"How’d you know?"

Lucien smirked.

"I bought something similar for my brother. A necklace though. Yours are better. But piercing your ears... makes you look more like an omega."

Rin folded his arms and looked away.

’Would I look less omega if I took them off?’

He glanced down at himself as he saw the answer.

Nope.

With this cursed body... small frame, soft skin, huge eyes... he could be wearing full knight armour and people would still call him a delicate little omega flower.

He breathed heavily and turned to walk away, but Lucien latched onto him like a bedbug with abandonment issues.

"I’m sorry," Lucien said as they stepped out of the temple. "About last night. I know it’s my fault but... your body was just... too attractive to ignore."

Rin glared at him.

"You’re gross."

Lucien followed behind like a puppy that had just been kicked.

"I know, I am and I regret it so badly,"

Rin said nothing to him. He kept walking, ignoring all of Lucien’s pleas and words of regret until they reached the dorm gates.

"ID," the guard said.

Rin handed it over, and the moment it was checked and cleared, he stepped through. Lucien wasn’t able to sneak through like he always did because it was daytime.

"Rin," Lucien called.

Rin stopped, clenching his small fist. He was about to ask the guards to send him away but...

"I won’t see you for two weeks."

Rin turned slightly, raising a brow.

Lucien folded his arms, still wearing that annoying smug smile.

"Well, my final exams start this week. I need to concentrate or they’ll make me repeat the year. I mean, I don’t mind repeating another year, if it’ll make me stay with you longer but..."

Rin said nothing, just staring as if he were watching TV.

"I just want to hear it from you, once," Lucien added. "Say ’good luck.’ That’s all."

Rin stared at him.

It became silent for over ten seconds and Rin turned, leaving Lucien hanging. Then he walked into the dorm without a word.

Lucien watched him leave and he didn’t try to stop him.

"I guess he’s still... upset,"

.

.

Inside, Rin sighed as he slammed the door and leaned on it. Niblet walked to him, barking softly. Rin sat on the ground, stroking Niblet’s head. It rolled over, allowing Rin to touch his stomach.

Rin’s thought went back to Lucien again.

’He’s a Vortellion. He doesn’t need my good luck,’ he thought to himself. ’So why did my chest feel tight?’

.

.

That Evening...

Lucien sat in the library for the first time since he came to the academy, but he couldn’t read a word.

His finger tapped against the table, flipping pages but never actually seeing anything.

’Last night... I went too far, didn’t I?’

He was about to do more. Something way more intimate and worse but Rin kicked him and ran off. He was sure that things would have gotten worse if he hadn’t been kicked by Rin.

Lucien groaned and shoved the book into his bag.

’I’m a beast... No, worse. I’m a monster. That’s why I don’t deserve his ’good luck’.

He walked out of the library and headed toward the students’ dorms.

After a long walk from the library to the dorm, he stopped.

Just there, by the entrance was someone familiar. Someone with rare white hair.

Lucien’s entire mood flipped like a coin.

He walked faster, his heart racing. He wanted to hug him or probably grab him. But Rin would end up kicking him again.

So he stopped in front of him.

"You came to the students’ dorm,"

"Yeah, I fucking did,"

Rin said and handed him a letter.

Lucien blinked, collecting it like he didn’t deserve it.

"For me?"

Rin nodded and looked away shyly.

Lucien was so excited to react that he wanted to open the letter, but Rin stopped him right before he ripped it open; his face was red from embarrassment.

"Open it later. When you’re alone."

Lucien’s smile widened.

"Are you being shy right now?"

Rin frowned and shoved him weakly.

"You’re younger than me. Show some respect."

Lucien laughed.

"Age doesn’t matter when my heart beats like this."

He took Rin’s hand and kissed his palm softly. Rin didn’t yell at him for doing it.

"Thank you... for showing up."

Rin pulled his hand back. He was glad it was dark and Lucien couldn’t see how red his face was.

"...Goodnight then," Rin mumbled and turned quickly, walking off like his life depended on it.

Lucien watched him go, grin never fading.

"Seven years older, huh?" he muttered, still smiling. "Those words could have fooled me."

He brought the letter close to his nose and sniffed it.

"With this, I can finally read overnight,"
