Chapter 26: Hellhound Bond!

Rin stared at the system notification still blinking in his vision, then slowly raised his eyes to the four omegas standing in front of him. His feet itched with the instinct to bolt. But, if he ran, they would go after him or maybe throw one of their shiny daggers at him.

They were beautiful, with sharp jawlines and sharper eyes. He knew that Lucien wouldn’t settle for someone ugly, of course. If they were in his world, they would be stalked by scouters every day since each one of them looked like they belonged in a perfume commercial. Even with their murderous glares, Rin had to admit: Lucien really had a type.

"We sure waited for you," the one in front hissed. He had brown-blond hair and eyes like frozen lakes. "We’ve heard so much about you. We would have attacked you at the clinic but, we heard what happened to the previous ones,"

Rin lifted his hands slightly.

"Okay, listen. I don’t know what Lucien told you or what you heard about me, but I swear, I have nothing going on with him."

The one with the whip snorted.

"Don’t lie. He stopped seeing us right after you showed up."

"Well, that’s a ’you’ problem,"

The third omega, slightly shorter, narrowed his eyes.

"You think you’re special? He fucks around, pretty boy. You’re no different."

Rin mentally sighed.

’Why do I always attract the unhinged ones?’

He glanced behind him. There was no escape. They had him cornered in a wide hallway behind the main dormitories.

"Look, I’m not trying to take anyone’s place," Rin said quickly, taking another step back. "I swear I don’t even like anything about Lucien Vortellion. He’s too tall, too cocky, too... too everything. He’s not my type!"

One of them, the tallest, narrowed his eyes further. Rin recognised him. He was the one in the huge storage room a few weeks ago. The day Rin tried to steal suppressants and scent blockers.

Shit.

That guy had been with Lucien back then. Lucien had stopped midway and walked to him. That student still didn’t know it was Rin who interrupted them.

"I still remember that day," the tall omega said with a growl. "The last day I ever had contact with him. We were having a good time until someone fucking interrupted us,"

Rin’s heart pounded. Crap. Crap. Crap.

"I cursed whoever it was that day... When I finally find out who it is, I’ll kill them," he said.

Rin took another step back, ready to run. He couldn’t reveal that he was the one that night.

Then he froze.

Behind the four boys, a fifth figure stood. A trembling omega student holding something... long, heavy, huge and rattling.

Chains. Huge chains...

And at the other end of those chains...

Rin’s breath caught when he saw it.

A three-headed hellhound.

Of course, he could recognise it. He has read manga and watched anime so he knew what it was.

They were massive. Growling, with glowing red eyes. The air around it shimmered with heat.

Rin gasped. "That’s... That’s a demon!"

The student holding the chain cried out.

"I-I can’t hold it anymore! It’s too huge!"

DING!

[System Alert: Hidden Entity Detected.]

[Species: Cerberus Variant.]

[Demon Rank: ???]

Rin’s heart stopped. He was right. It was indeed a demon.

"I can’t hold the dog anymore! Shit!"

Dog?

The other omegas didn’t seem to realise what the hellhound truly was. To them, it just looked like a wild, terrifying dog with one head.

’Why can I see it?’ Rin thought. ’Is it because I’m... half-demon?’

The chain snapped, pulling him from his thoughts.

The hellhound or... dog... roared, charging straight toward him.

Rin flinched back, ready to dodge, but...

Nothing.

Instead of tearing him apart or feeling the huge teeth sinking into his skin, the hellhound skidded to a stop in front of him, three heads panting, tongues lolling out.

It licked his arm.

Rin blinked.

"What the hell..."

He looked down at the cut on his forearm which he got earlier that day. The hellhound was licking it like a puppy.

"Wait... you’re... friendly?"

The other omegas stared, speechless. It definitely didn’t look friendly.

Security arrived seconds later. The boys tried to back off fast but they were caught.

The guards examined the scene before noticing Rin with the dog. He was also shocked.

"This dog was stolen from its containment cell. Those boys must have stolen the keys," the dog barked at him. "It’s dangerous... no one has ever been able to control it. It can’t even be tamed,"

Rin stared down at the creature curled up beside him.

"He seems fine to me."

"That’s impossible," one of the guards said. "It doesn’t accept tamers. Or alphas. Or anyone."

Rin raised a brow.

"Maybe he just has good taste?" He said without certainty.

After a few tense moments, one of the guards sighed. "Would you be willing to take care of him? For now? The academy doesn’t know what else to do with it,"

Rin nodded before they finished speaking.

"Yes. I’ll take him."

DING!

[System Update: Companion Acquired - "Cerberus"]

[Name: Pending]

’Cerberus huh? Maybe, I’ll be able to find out about the seal or my real identity with this dog close to me,’

He walked back to his room, the massive hellhound trotting happily behind him.

His door barely opened wide enough, but somehow, the dog squeezed inside. All three heads sniffed around curiously.

Rin looked around.

"Uh... I don’t have dog food. Or demon food. What do you eat?"

The dog barked softly.

Rin smiled.

"That was cute. You’re cute."

He sat down beside it and stroked one of its heads.

Then a thought hit him.

’Was it after my blood?’

He remembered that it had licked his wound.

His heart pounded.

’Shit... It’s a demon. What if it needs blood to survive?’

He stared at his palm. Then sighed.

"You better not eat me in my sleep."

With a wince, Rin tore a small cut across his palm, blood welling up. He let it drip on the floor.

The dog eagerly licked it up, all three heads purring in satisfaction.

"That’s so... gross," Rin muttered, lying down. "But okay. We’re bonded now, I guess."

Exhausted, he curled up on the bed, pulling a pillow over his head.

He didn’t know how long he had slept, but a strange presence woke him.

A chill rolled across his room.

The hellhound whined. One of the heads barked... but stopped, suddenly silenced by a dark spell.

A shadow moved across the wall.

Rin rolled over, eyes half-lidded, but it was as if he couldn’t move.

A tall figure stood beside the bed. His body was cloaked in red and black mist, barely solid. His presence felt foreign. Heavy.

He knelt beside Rin, who was frozen in place.

His long and cold fingers traced the curve of Rin’s collarbone, then moved down, brushing his chest.

Rin couldn’t move, nor could he speak. He was unconscious... maybe, asleep, but he felt that he was awake.

The figure’s hand gently lifted Rin’s injured palm and brought it to his lips. He licked the blood with a quiet, low sound.

Then he grinned.

"I finally found you," he whispered.

DING!

[System Alert: ??? Approaching.]

[Identity Unknown.]

[Threat Level: Undefined.]

Rin’s eyes immediately widened, his heart pounding in his chest like he had woken up from a nightmare.

’What the fuck just happened?’
