Chapter 19: Did You Watch?

’What is this bastard trying to do? Make me expose my secret? Fuck no!’

Rin thought to himself as he glared at Lucien. His breath caught in his throat as the air shifted, thickening around him like syrup, heated and heavy.

He didn’t need the system to tell him what was happening. Lucien had released his pheromones... intentionally this time.

Strong. Dominant. Alluring and overstimulating cinnamon heat.

The scent invaded Rin’s lungs like fire. It wrapped around him, seeped into his skin, licked the base of his spine and clawed up his neck. Rin stumbled back, panic rising fast. His own body betrayed him, warmth pooling between his thighs.

"W-What the hell do you think you’re doing?!" he stammered.

Lucien said nothing at first. He just watched. His face was calm and calculated. As always.

"You said you don’t know how you suppress your scent," Lucien murmured, stepping forward. "Let’s test that."

Rin shook his head, breath hitching again.

"Don’t do this. This is harassment. It’s... not allowed."

Lucien stopped a foot away.

"Then run."

Rin couldn’t. His legs had turned to jelly. He couldn’t move a bit from the spot he was standing.

"You’re still gonna stay there? You’re not going to deny it and run?"

"You’ll fucking regret this, Lucien," Rin scoffed as his own pheromones suddenly burst out like a popped bottle of perfume... sweet, heady, floral... like blooming lilies soaked in sugar and sweat.

He felt his pants tighten, a burning arousal tearing through him.

Lucien froze. Rin expected to see smugness on Lucien’s face... but what he saw stunned him.

Lucien inhaled sharply, affected by Rin’s Pheromones. He knew that Alpha’s Pheromones were supposed to be stronger than that of omegas, but, what he was seeing was different.

"Your scent... It’s strong. Stronger than I imagined." Lucien stuttered like he was having difficulty breathing.

Rin clutched his shirt.

"S-Stop smelling me like a bloodhound!"

Lucien stepped behind him. Rin’s breath hitched.

Then... a kiss... a gentle, hot kiss right at the crook of his neck. Then a second one, slower, deeper, teeth grazing skin.

Lucien’s tongue flicked against the pulse point before he pulled Rin’s collar lower. Rin shivered violently.

His mind screamed,

’Say something! Push him! I don’t want this... It’s this cursed body fault... Yes, maybe because I’m a demon,’

Lucien’s lips lingered, warm against his throat.

Then... a bite. Not a mark.

It wasn’t deep, just enough to leave a red mark, an imprint of a moment that should not have happened. Lucien paused. Their breaths were tangled.

Rin let out a choked gasp.

’Did this bastard just bite me?’

He thought as his eyes widened. He remembered what he read in the book. Biting meant marking... Making one bound to an alpha forever.

’He didn’t mark me, did he? Fuck!’

Rin’s fist connected with Lucien’s jaw. The handsome and powerful Lucien stumbled backwards.

"You asshole!" Rin yelled, face red, body still burning. "What the hell was that?!"

Lucien rubbed his jaw, looking more amused than hurt. "Proof."

"You’re a creep!"

Rin didn’t wait. He ran. His legs were no longer jelly.

He didn’t stop until he reached the dormitory, slammed his door shut, and fell to the floor.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck," he gasped, his hand trembling as it pressed to the mark on his neck. His scent was still everywhere. Sweet and wet and shameful.

He would have used the system to suppress it, but if he did, Lucien would know he had that ability.

The very thing he had denied.

After finding out he wasn’t ’marked’ just ’bitten’ by a fucking bloodhound, he dragged himself into the bathroom, stripped out of his clothes, and turned the water cold. He stood there for what felt like forever, fists clenched, teeth gritted.

Sleep didn’t come.

He lay awake until dawn, sheets soaked with sweat, body still sensitive and confused.

.

The next morning, Rin stumbled out of bed with soft dark circles under his eyes. He stared at the mark around his neck and sighed in relief.

Then the mirror chimed again.

"Oh, shut up!"

He walked toward his wardrobe and grabbed something to wear.

By the time Rin arrived at the clinic, the sun was already high.

He was nearly late, forgetting that the Head Doctor doesn’t tolerate lateness.

"Shit," he muttered, running through the hallway.

The moment he stepped in, one of the younger nurses approached.

"You’re here, Rin. You’re late," she said.

"I’m sorry... Something happened last night and..."

"It doesn’t matter, The Head Doctor wants to see you. Now."

Rin exhaled shakily and adjusted his collar. The mark on his neck had dulled to a faint red, but it still pulsed like a reminder.

He knocked, then pushed open the office door.

Theron was behind the desk, as always. Cold. Precise. Towering.

The memory of last night’s scene with Elna flashed in Rin’s brain like a cursed pop-up ad.

"Sir. You summoned me."

Theron didn’t look up.

"Report."

Rin handed the paper to him. He had done his best. The format still confused him, but he wrote what he observed.

Theron scanned it once. Then, without a word, crumpled it and tossed it into the trash.

Rin’s jaw clenched. Hours of effort, erased in seconds.

"Where’s your name tag?" Theron asked suddenly. free\we,bnovel.c o(m)

Rin stiffened as his fingers trailed down his chest. He always had it pinned to his coat, but it wasn’t there. He has no idea where it fell.

’Was it when I was training? Or when Lucien did ’that’ with me?’

"I... I forgot it in my dorm, sir." He lied through his teeth.

Theron reached into his drawer and pulled it out. The silver tag glinted in the light.

"I found this in front of my door. Last night."

Rin’s heart skipped.

Theron looked up.

"Were you watching?"

"N-No," Rin said too fast. "I swear, I just... it must have fallen off my clothes before then... or while I was walking back."

"Before then? So you watched. You saw."

Theron stood up, slow and deliberate.

"Watch what? I don’t know what you’re talking about,"

"I hate liars," he said, walking around the desk.

Rin stepped back instinctively.

Theron kept walking forward until Rin was backed against the desk.

The head doctor looked down at him, gaze unblinking.

"People like you," he said quietly. "They get jobs with no work. No effort. All because of power and wealth?"

"I-I didn’t ask for this job," Rin whispered.

Theron grabbed Rin by the front of his shirt.

"You think I care?"

He yanked Rin forward... and stopped. His eyes locked on the faint mark on Rin’s neck.

His brows twitched as he leaned closer, nostrils flaring slightly, almost as if trying to catch a scent.

Rin held his breath. If he catches a familiar scent and figures out it belongs to a student... He’ll get fired.

Just as Theron’s nose brushed close to the bite...

BANG!

The door slammed open and they both turned to the door.

Elna froze in the doorway. Rin and Theron were practically chest-to-chest.

The silence stretched.

Elna’s eyes darted between them. Her face was unreadable.

Theron let go slowly, adjusting his shirt.

"We were discussing his report," he said flatly.

Elna said nothing.

Rin stepped away, heart pounding as he saw the expression on Elna’s face. It was something he had never seen before.

’Did she think there’s something between Theron and me? I’d better explain to her. Because with that dreadful expression I just saw, if she misunderstood what she saw... There’s no way I’m surviving this story,’

His thoughts screamed at him.
