Chapter 885: 458 why don’t you dare to look up at me? (4400)_2 Chapter 885: 458 why don’t you dare to look up at me? (4400)_2 “No way, he heard…” Nien’s heart missed a beat, but the next second, he stiffened his neck and glared back. What was there to fear from a washed-up nobody in front of him? Soss had lost his potential and would definitely never reach the level of a Shadow Hunter. And unless one was a Shadow Hunter, even Transcendent Beings had no special privileges in the presence of the Royal Family’s Aristocrats. Not to mention that Nien’s household was an Earldom with real power, not some low-ranking noble family. Soss might be strong, but he had to abide by the rules of the Royal Family and could not lay a hand on his own kin.

Otherwise, the Royal Family would personally deal with such an Ungrateful Wolf.

Across from him, Soss’s Killing Intent was churning; he was struggling to control his emotions. The side effects of overusing the Holy Spring Water surfaced again, and he narrowed his eyes, forcefully suppressing his rage, “You just wait…”

“I’ll wait, I’ve had enough of you! Do you know that Ninth Princess Angela is at today’s Banquet? Heh, a friend told me something. The Royal Family wants to marry Ninth Princess Angela to that Lord Blood Fist to win him over. How does that make you feel?”

Nien simply let everything go, his temper as a young man notorious among the noble circles for his directness and impulsiveness.

Now facing a down-and-out Soss, Nien made no effort to hide his true feelings. He was brutally sarcastic, his eyes even showing a trace of pity, infuriating to behold.

“You… are seeking death!”

Soss’s eyes bulged with fury, and a formidable Momentum Burst forth from his body.

At that moment, two Horse Carriages arrived on the White Stone Road, one after the other, moving swiftly. The curtains of the rear Horse Carriage drew back, and a handsome youth with brown hair called out to the Horse Carriage in front, “Don’t go so fast. Blood Fist, I know I talk a lot, but you don’t have to avoid me like this. As fellow Dark Hunters, can’t we talk a bit more?”

Inside the pitch-black Horse Carriage ahead, a robust and tall Silhouette leaned back in his seat, expressionless. He even coldly instructed his carter, “Drive faster.” However, the carter reported with a sense of helplessness, “My lord, we’re approaching the Manor’s entrance, we need to pass the Iron Gate…”

Casio furrowed his brow, eventually remaining silent. About six or seven minutes earlier, his Horse Carriage had just happened to come across that of Aaron, the number five Shadow Hunter. Instantly, Aaron had taken the initiative to strike up a conversation, acting overly familiar. Casio had merely responded casually, and immediately regretted it. Aaron could talk incessantly, reminding him of an annoying crow. And this man didn’t need a response to keep talking; he could carry on the conversation with himself, flowing seamlessly from one subject to the next. Casio didn’t want to be entangled, which is why he had his Horse Carriage speed up.

This had led to the current situation.

Actually, while Aaron was indeed a jovial extrovert, he wasn’t the type to cling and chatter. His approach to Casio was, in fact, a command from the Chief Inspector of the Black Mechanism. As the second-ranked Dark Hunter and the head of the Clinic, Casio had always been too aloof and mysterious, preferring to act independently.

As long as goals aligned, the Chief Inspector could tolerate someone like that. However, he needed to establish communication between the Clinic and Dark Hunt Headquarters. It was crucial for the Chief Inspector to understand Casio’s thoughts, to know what the Clinic was up to, and to be aware of upcoming operations. This way, the Dark Hunt Headquarters could coordinate, mop up, and control the development of events.

Therefore, the Chief Inspector had chosen the eloquent Aaron to take care of this relationship. However, this approach seemed to backfire on Casio, who preferred solitude. At least, on the way to the Manor, Casio found the idea of chatting through Horse Carriage windows rather foolish.

At the Banquet, Casio would give Aaron an opportunity. He had already guessed Aaron’s intentions and the Chief Inspector’s thoughts.

After all, having a crucial institution of the Hunters Association entirely in someone else’s hands was like a one-man dictatorship. As the leader of the Dark Hunt Organization, the Chief Inspector’s actions were beyond reproach. Casio had, in fact, been expressing good will all along, such as allowing Claire, the Chief Inspector’s niece, to participate in the operation against the Branch of the Lunar Eclipse Meeting. Against common enemies such as Dark creatures and the Door Organization, there was no doubt that they were partners.

Casio had no interest in falling out with the Dark Hunt Organization; there was no benefit in that.

The two Horse Carriages headed towards the entrance of the Manor, one after the other. From the Horse Carriage at the back, Aaron withdrew his head back inside, grumbling to himself, “So stand-offish? Looks like I have to make a good connection at the Banquet later, rub elbows a little more. The task the Chief Inspector gave me seems rather difficult…”

He shook his head, his expression one of resignation. Aaron felt he had been sufficiently enthusiastic, nearly reaching the point of being brothers-in-arms. The other’s response, however, was lukewarm at best, which was quite a letdown. Little did he know, if Aaron were aware that the cataclysmic Torrential Destruction that nearly leveled a mountain was of Casio’s doing, he might reconsider his eagerness to form such brotherly bonds. That terrifying Battle had left Aaron shaken to his core; he had hidden far away and had almost been devoured by the aftermath.

For many days after, Aaron was plagued by nightmares. He dreamt of being back on that Battlefield, frantically running through the woods, with the destructive torrent rapidly closing in from behind, terror and Despair in his heart…

Sometimes he would wake from these dreams in a cold sweat, silently vowing never to step into such perilous danger a second time, to keep as far away as possible from these crises. Yet at this very moment, Aaron was actively seeking out the very source of that day’s danger, with great fervor and an unshakable pestering presence, the source of danger unable to shake him off.
