Chapter 884 - 884 Why dont you dare to look up at me (4400)
Chapter 884: Why don’t you dare to look up at me? (4400) Chapter 884: Why don’t you dare to look up at me? (4400) June twenty-first, dusk.
In the first district of Florence, at the northwest corner, there lies the Manor of Duke Augustus. The area it spans is vast, equivalent to the size of two horse farms.
Surrounding the Duke’s Manor are blocks of well-planted green meadows, interspersed with red, yellow, and pink flower gardens. Between the meadows and gardens, neatly maintained white stone roads stretch directly to the three gates of the Manor. In front of the iron-cast, black-painted gate bars, several stewards in white shirts and black waistcoats stand quietly waiting, followed by a group of servants.
“Clatter clatter clatter…”
Luxurious and exquisite horse carriages come from all directions of Florence, steady and fast. Almost half of the carriages are branded with various family crests. There are swords and flowers, giant bears, and even double-headed tigers…
When the horse carriages arrive at the entrance of the Manor, they briefly stop. The carriage curtains slowly part, and a hand decked in rings and displaying a life of ease and privilege slowly extends to pass a white leather invitation to the steward. Afterwards, the steward instructs a servant from behind to lead the way in front of the carriage to the parking spot.
It is now around half-past five in the afternoon, and the banquet starts at six o’ clock.
At the East Gate of the Duke’s Manor, an old steward stands in silence.
“Clatter clatter clatter…”
The sound of carriage wheels rolling over the ground draws nearer.
A dark black horse carriage slowly approaches, coming to a halt at the position of the Manor’s gate. The light green curtains of the carriage are lifted, and a handsome, curious young aristocrat peers outside. He has slightly curled brown hair, emerald green eyes, and a prominently high nose bridge. Clusters of white lace collar encircle his neck, below which is aristocratic attire made of satin-like fabric with golden thread patterns.
Tap tap tap… The venerable steward by the road walks over.
Gracefully bowing, he reaches out for the white invitation that the youth hands to him. Upon a glance, he sees it is from the eldest son of Count Roland’s family, Nien.
The future heir to the title of Count.
The old steward closes the invitation and is about to speak when another carriage comes from behind on the road, its surface marked with a golden pattern, unmistakably the royal family’s logo. He immediately hands the invitation to a middle-aged servant nearby, who quickly understands the steward’s intention and immediately takes the steward’s place and walks forward. Meanwhile, the steward himself moves to greet the royal carriage.
Tap tap tap… The sound of horse hooves tapping on the ground gradually stops.
The curtain is lifted, revealing a face that is both commanding and handsome.
Blond hair iconic as a lion’s mane, profound features, it is none other than Soss of the royal family, once known as the Lion King. However, his current state is not too good, his eyes dull, the edges lined with bloodshot. Dark circles beneath the eyes, whether from lack of sleep or indulgence in excesses, weaken his appearance. Overall, he looks like a languid lion.
After the competition for a place among the Shadow Hunters concluded, the once vibrant Soss lost not just his spirit but his confidence as well, completely shattered by the palm strike he received from Casio in the valley. That strike, mimicking Soss’s own ‘lion’s imprint,’ was a makeshift move by Casio; seeing it used against him, Soss was ruthlessly sent flying. To be so utterly overpowered in what he was most proud of…
Since the end of the battle, Soss had to endure the consequences of abusing the Holy Spring water to enhance his strength, leading to a highly unstable mental state. Therefore, he spent his days drowning his woes in indulgence, numbing himself with drink and pleasure for some time. During this period, he was in total decline, uninterested in events of the outside world. Only a couple of days ago did he emerge from such stupor, deciding to go out and clear his mind.
Luckily, he received an invitation from Duke Augustus. A grand banquet was being hosted, many friends would be there, an opportunity to lighten his mood.
So today, Soss, fresh out of his gloom, arrived here.
On the white stone road, inside the luxurious carriage, Soss hands a white invitation with golden thread patterns to the old steward waiting beside. Smiling, the steward, as always, checks it respectfully before returning it to Soss.
“Mr. Soss, please.”
Inside the Manor, not too far on the road,
The dark black carriage continues to advance at a leisurely pace, with the young noble persistently pulling back the curtain, turning to look back, his face showing displeasure. Nien feels slighted, unable to contain his emotions, which are readily apparent on his face. He looks at the profile of Soss, muttering to himself.
“What’s so great about him, just a washed-up dog. Nothing but a royal pampered dog since childhood. Now that you’ve failed in the Shadow Hunter contest, let’s see how mighty you’ll be. Hah, you wish to marry Ninth Princess Angela, keep dreaming. This time, the royal family specially invited that second ranked Dark Hunter, Ninth Princess Angela will show up too. Heh heh, looks like the beauty will be someone else’s…”
Nien revels in another’s misfortune, having heard many rumors of late.
“…”
At the gate, seated in the carriage’s soft cushion, Soss gradually becomes more fierce, his sharp teeth grinding against each other with a crackling sound. The blood vessels in his eyes visibly thicken, his expression filled with hatred. Soss heard Nien’s whisper; after all, he is a Shadow Hunter of the Dark Gold Level who cultivated his physique. Despite the noise of carriages, it was not difficult to hear clearly.
“Whoosh whoosh whoosh…” Suddenly, the carriage carrying Soss accelerates, and the bewildered servant leading the way shouts as he chases after it.
As it was the servant leading, Nien’s carriage hadn’t gone far before it was overtaken and cut off by Soss’s. Nien, lifting the carriage curtain, asks in confusion what happened. To his surprise, as soon as he peers out, he sees Soss seated in the carriage next to him, looking over ferociously. His eyes rimmed in a circle of blood red, he appears on the verge of killing someone.
