Chapter 296 - 296 186 Strange two red teeth_2
Chapter 296: 186 Strange, two red teeth_2 Chapter 296: 186 Strange, two red teeth_2 Between the cracks of the creepers, the dark windows occasionally passed through everyone’s line of sight, whistling in the wind. An inexplicably creepy sensation, but it was expected in a deserted village.
Ahead was a turn.
Israel glanced in surprise and asked, “Has there been a fire here?”
Signs of a fire had scathed a long stretch of street ahead, blackness crawled over the walls and ground like mold does.
The two large trees beside the road were shriveled, with no leaves despite it being midsummer. The wrinkles in the bark gave a feeling of impending lifelessness.
“Ah? It was fine this morning…”
The gunner also had a puzzled expression.
Casio frowned. Standing on this street, a chilling sensation ran through his pores, it was rather uncomfortable.
“Hmm? There are marks of a battle.”
Israel pointed out abruptly, indicating a wall on his right.
Casio immediately moved over to take a look, squatting by the site.
The wall initially was uneven and pockmarked. But now, areas of blackness covered the surface, revealing visible white bullet holes. Upon closer inspection, the entire wall had four to five bullet holes – some having blasted right through, others leaving a dent.
“Looks like they were made not too long ago…” speculated Israel, running his fingers around the edges of the bullet holes whilst raising his head to ask the others, “Did you hear any gunshots?”
“No,” replied the three or four gunners unanimously.
“Mansa Village is relatively quiet and desolate, if someone fired a gun, it can be heard clearly within several kilometers. We can’t possibly be unaware if someone had actually fired a shot,” a tall and thin gunner explained.
“That’s strange…” Israel shot a glance at Casio.
Casio wore a puzzled look too.
“Gentlemen, there’s another finding here.” A gunner at the front called back.
Everyone went over, immediately spotting weird drawings on the wall, looking much like a terrible graffiti.
“It seems to be scratched out with fingernails and extends down to the ground…” Israel flicked away the loose white wall plaster beneath his fingernails.
Casio shifted his attention.
Clear claw marks streaked across the ground.
These stretched diagonally across the street, ending abruptly after about two-thirds the length of the street. It was as if someone clinging desperately onto the ground was dragged away by a monster.
However, there were no traces of blood on the ground.
Or remnants of the monster’s claw?
“…” Israel squinted his eyes and scanned around, especially on the dark, hollow windows, but nothing occurred. It had only progressively gotten darker outside.
“Perhaps the sand-dust gang is playing some mischief to buy time for the relocation of the Antiques Warehouse,” Israel guessed.
“We can deal with it later, let’s first check out the residential building where the Intelligence Department personnel disappeared,” he commanded, and the rest followed as the thin, tall gunner led them towards the back of the village.
About three minutes later, they halted.
In front of them was a reasonably intact two-story building, the exterior covered with ivy. A white enclosure wall surrounded the building. The wooden fence had rotted, unable to serve as an obstruction.
They walked right in.
The leading gunner entered the hall first, exclaiming, “Jamie, Israel, and Casio are here.”
However, no one answered.
“Jamie! Jamie!”
Only the echoes of the gunner’s voice reverberated through the little building.
“Where is Jamie…”
“Let’s go upstairs and check.” Israel locked eyes with the tall, thin gunner and they immediately led the way up the aging staircase.
The wooden handrail had lost its paint, with a layer of thick dust collected on the surface. Some parts had decayed and torn away.
The second floor was filled with dust. The indoor was rather dim, and furniture lay abandoned by the previous owner, now covered in spider webs and exhibiting a pale color.
“Where’s the person?”
Four or five gunmen rummaged through all the rooms but could not find any traces of Jamie. Their efforts of flipping over everything in their path even yielded nothing. Casio slowly paced towards the balcony, casting his gaze over the surroundings.
Silent buildings stood erect with no sign of people whatsoever. Even the chirping of birds had ceased entirely here.
Down below in the courtyard stood one or two gunmen. Gunmen dressed in black patrolled the streets surrounding the residence. They were investigating the scenarios around the house, hoping to potentially find Jamie nearby.
Casio stood on the threshold between the living room and the balcony on the second floor, he glances at his pocket watch. It was approximately half past ten.
*Creak~*
Suddenly, a door-opening sound echoed from behind.
“Redtooth, tell them to stop searching. Go directly to the other building, I have a bad premonition.” Casio put down his pocket watch.
“Okay.”, came Redtooth’s deep voice from behind.
Next was a series of thumping sounds of someone descending the stairs.
Casio stuffed the pocket watch into his pocket, about to turn around. Something in the corner of his eye suddenly caught his attention, startling him.
Casio sharply turned his gaze, two men were talking on the street to the east of the residential building. One was the tall thin man who had led the way earlier, the other was… Redtooth! What about the one just now…
He swung his head around, his eyes staring straight into the dark hallway.
“Redtooth” had agreed and then headed downstairs just now.
Bang!
Casio instantly turned into a Xblack shadow and dashed downstairs at an incredible speed. He pivoted and strode toward the first floor.
At the doorway, a gunner was about to step out.
“Wait!” Casio called him back, his tone was very serious: “Didn’t you see Redtooth coming down just now?”
“Isn’t Redtooth outside?”
The crew-cut man indicated the direction of the door with a puzzled look.
“…” Casio’s brow furrowed deeper.
“Check the rooms on the first floor with me again!”
Several seconds later, he stepped out of a vacant room, his face stern. Nothing, just like when he first came in.
Then who was the one talking to him on the second floor just now?
Casio’s perception was extraordinary, enhanced by the fusion with the Shadow Demon and his beginner level Heart-eye Secret Technique.
Even if a somewhat familiar person didn’t say anything, just walking behind him, Casio could guess the person’s identity roughly.
Moreover, the aura was exactly the same as Redtooth’s.
“Shadow Demon?”
The only guess Casio could come up with at the moment was this.
It definitely was not an illusion just now!
But another problem came. Members of the same kind are very sensitive to each other, if it was a Shadow Demon Casio would have detected it earlier.
“Sir?” the gunner beside Casio asked as he noticed Casio rooted to the spot, lost in thought and remaining silent.
Whoosh!
A shadow swiftly darted out the door and disappeared.
Casio passed quickly through the wooden fence and arrived at the street to the east of the residential building. Redtooth seemed to be instructing the tall thin man again.
“Redtooth.”
At a distance of five meters, Casio suddenly called out.
“Windy? What’s up?”
Redtooth turned his head, a chilling gust of wind hit his face. The strong airflow swept Redtooth’s hair to both sides of his forehead, and a black fist enlarged rapidly in his line of sight.
“You!”
Redtooth yelled in horror.
Yup!
The fist stopped mid-air just in the nick of time, the well-defined fist was only half a centimeter away from Redtooth’s nose.
“Glug.”
Redtooth stood frozen in place, swallowing his saliva. He was filled with terror again, the fear of having his head blown off with one punch.
If this punch hits, it’ll be lethal!
“What are you doing?”
Redtooth took a few steps back. He had balled his fists to question Casio, but suddenly he lost the nerve to lose his temper.
He was afraid of provoking Casio, scared he would actually be punched.
“Looks like you really…” Casio slowly withdrew his fist. He was about to start explaining to Redtooth when his relaxed fist suddenly clenched again, the veins on his palm gurgled ominously.
It was still the same street, five meters away from Redtooth, a very familiar crew-cut man was scanning the street and walking toward them.
He was definitely in the small building just now!
Casio had just had a half-minute conversation with him!!!
