Chapter 128: Team Inspection

Chapter 128: Team Inspection

In the Dark Plane, Dark Willow Shelter.

The next day, a team of inspectors from the Verdant Group waited in front of Nash’s team residence.

"How long before they return, Leslie?" Alec, the leader of the inspection team, asked.

"I told you, they’ll arrive a bit later. Don’t complain to me now." Leslie rolled her eyes.

They’d been standing there for hours because Alec thought she was lying about Nash’s team itinerary.

Now, after waiting for nothing, Alec had the nerve to complain.

"Then let’s wait a little longer." Seeing Leslie’s temper flare, Alec quickly shut up.

Still, he didn’t hesitate to instruct the inspection team to scatter and look for suspicious activity.

From asking every void warrior, every squad, stores, buyers, guards, etc.

---

Soon, as hours began to pass, discovering nothing suspicious, Alec grew impatient.

He suspected Leslie had tipped off Nash, letting them dodge the inspection.

Fortunately, half an hour later, he saw a group of men approaching.

"You’re here early today, Leslie," Nash greeted.

"Isn’t it because of you?" Leslie rolled her eyes.

"Because of me?"

"Hmph! These gentlemen are the inspection team from the Verdant Group. They suspect you’re exploiting the contract you have with us,"

"I see. Come in, then. We’ll cooperate, as long as it doesn’t take too long." Nash nodded, opening the doors to their residence and inviting them inside.

"Don’t worry, it won’t take long," Alec said, scrutinizing everything in the room.

Once everyone was seated, resting from their dangerous journey through the Willow Primeval Forest, Nash brought out the herbs they’d harvested.

Taking out piles and piles of fresh herbs to the ground, the suspicious look on Alec’s face turned to shock.

"This—did you gather all this yourselves?"

Looking at the freshness of the herbs, they were clearly just picked up from the ground.

Ruling out the involvement of a third party, Alec wondered if they’d bought the herbs from another squad in the Black Willow Shelter.

"We gathered them ourselves. Among the squads in the Black Willow Shelter, only a few dared to venture into the Willow Primeval Forest," Nash said confidently.

"Is this true?" Alec asked, turning to his team.

"It’s true. We asked around earlier and confirmed only two other squads dared to enter the Willow Primeval Forest."

"Furthermore, one squad has already moved to another shelter, and the other two were off duty today."

"I see..."

Alec was now convinced Nash wasn’t exploiting the Verdant Group.

All the herbs they gathered should be the virtue of their own skill.

Although storage items could preserve herbs, there was still a clear difference between fresh and stored herbs.

Normal people might not notice the difference, but to Alec, it was clear as day.

As long as Nash dared to present him with herbs from yesterday or a few days before, he could easily tell.

As the inspection team leader, his perception and experience were among the best.

Of course, if Nash had a high-tier storage item that could stop time, it would be a different matter.

However, such suspicion could be ruled out, as a storage item worth billions of merits was far beyond what a few Void Warriors could possess.

Clearing out their suspicion, Alec’s eyes held only admiration.

"I didn’t expect you’d be this efficient at finding herbs. Do you want to join the Verdant Group?" Alec asked sincerely.

Instead of anger or jealousy, Alec only felt pure admiration and a love for talent when looking at Nash.

Having such a person in the Verdant Group would bring only benefits.

As for the millions of merits they’d lose due to the contract’s unfair terms, Alec didn’t care.

Since the Verdant Group had signed such a money-losing contract, it was Nash’s skill that made them lose.

"Join the Verdant Group? I’m sure Leslie told you I have no plans for that."

"Don’t reject so quickly. My offer is different. I’m inviting you to the Verdant Group’s elite reserve program."

"Oh? What’s that about?"

"It’s a collection of talent from across the Nova Sector. The Verdant Group hope to nurture the best of the best and produce core leaders that could become the backbone of the group."

"What will I get?"

"After you passed some test, you’ll receive 10 million merits, and 1 billion nova credits every month."

"Furthermore, as an internal member, you’d get a 50% discount on all products in our shop. Our inheritances—like astral arts, pharmaceutical knowledge, and internal data, would also be free for you to access."

"Lastly, if you face any problems, you could mobilize up to a Tier 7 War Saint from the Verdant Group," Alec said in one breath.

The elite reserve program was the highest training investment the Verdant Group has, hoping to produce a potential War God in the future.

Although inferior to the official academies, like the Nova Military Academy, the benefits they gave in terms of pharmaceutical resources were among the best.

If Alec could recruit Nash, he would earn a hefty commission.

Hearing the offer, Nash couldn’t help but feel tempted.

Ten million merits and a billion nova credits per month!

With such money, he no longer needs to work so hard.

Unfortunately, his true identity from Earth held him back.

Coming from an uncivilized planet, the Verdant Group might retract their promise and even enslave him.

Although he could sign a contract, Earth lacked the power to enforce anything if the Verdant Group broke their word.

Unlike now, where his unknown identity kept the Verdant Group from daring to break the contract, if they learned he was from an uncivilized planet, they could void it for a few thousand nova credits.

They could even sue him for various reasons and make him pay.

Weighing the pros and cons, Nash quickly extinguished the idea of joining the Verdant Group.

Perhaps in the future, when Earth regained its autonomy and joined the big tree of the Nova Sector, he might consider it.

"My decision’s still the same. I don’t plan to join any organization for now..."

Seeing Nash’s seriousness, Alec sighed with pity.

"In that case, if you change your mind later, contact me. I’ll walk you through the Verdant Group’s Elite Reserve Program." Alec said, handing Nash his virtual ID.

"For sure." Nodding, Nash began arranging his men and the evaluator to count the day’s harvest.

Seeing them busy, Alec urged his team to help sort the herbs.

---

About an hour later, everything was sorted and counted.

"Your total today is 5.1 million merits," Leslie said, already numb to Nash’s team’s earning speed.

Meanwhile, Alec and the inspection team stood with their mouths agape, shocked.

Though they knew the herbs were worth millions, they hadn’t expected them to break 5 million.

"In the future, if you had enough ability, you should visit the Sunshade Shelter!" Alec suggested eagerly.

"Sunshade Shelter? Isn’t that a Yellow Tier Shelter?" one of Nash’s teammates said.

"Indeed. Among Yellow Tier Shelters, Sunshade Shelter has vibrant greenery. It’s a hotspot for teams like yours. The herbs there are more abundant and rarer."

"Don’t believe his nonsense. Sunshade Shelter is one of the Forbidden Zones in a Yellow Tier Shelter. Going there is a death wish," Leslie warned.

"True, but earning hundreds of millions of merits daily is a piece of cake," Alec countered.

"Sunshade Shelter? We’ll try it when we’re strong enough," Nash said confidently.

As long as he had enough strength, what was a Forbidden Zone?

If it meant earning hundreds of millions, Nash was willing to take a little risk.

But that was for the future.

He still needed to clear out the Primeval Forest before moving to another shelter.

After all, he had already inputted nearly all the dark beasts into the [Combat Module System]. Not maximizing his harvest before switching would be a waste.

After chatting a bit more, Leslie sent Nash a total of 6.3 million merits.

Finally, after grueling hours, they got their money.

Splitting the merits with his teammates, Nash couldn’t help but sigh.

"Tomorrow, we’ll just send the herbs to the Verdant Group. Each of you will oversee the evaluation to ensure they’re not cheating us. We can collect the payment the next day."

Initially, he didn’t mind the time spent on evaluation and sorting, as it took less than half an hour.

But as they gathered more herbs, the process had grown longer and longer.

Wasting precious hours, Nash planned to delegate his team to handle such matters.

As for being cheated, it shouldn’t make much difference.

Nash had already estimated the worth of each herb before storing them in his storage ring.

Though it was just an estimate, as long as there weren’t massive price fluctuations, he wouldn’t lose much.

Hearing Nash’s decision, his teammates nodded in agreement.

"That’s right, boss. This counting is a massive waste of time."

"We’ll rotate who oversees it. There shouldn’t be any problems."

Initially, they also enjoyed sorting and counting the day’s earnings.

But after earning tens to hundreds of thousands, they stopped caring about small discrepancies.

In short, they had grown used to the massive surge of merits and were no longer impatient about it.

"Then, let’s meet again tomorrow..."
