Chapter 94: Chapter 94 Would he be happy to see her?
"Miss Alina?"
She turned at the voice.
A tall woman in a simple charcoal dress stood beside the path. Her black hair was neatly tied back, and her tone was calm, almost formal.
"I’m Mira. The Head Maid. Lord Dante asked me to show you your room."
Alina nodded quickly. "Yes... thank you."
Mira turned and walked ahead, her steps precise along the gravel.
Alina followed without a word, her flats crunching softly behind her.
Inside the castle, everything was dimly lit. The walls were painted in dark shades — navy, deep green, muted grays. The floors were wooden, slightly cool underfoot, and every sound seemed louder in the stillness. The furniture was old but well-kept, with velvet chairs and carved desks, oil lamps casting soft flickers of light.
No one else appeared. Just silence, rooms, and long hallways.
"This is your room," Mira said gently, opening a tall door.
Alina stepped inside.
It was a beautiful space. The bed was large, with heavy blankets in dark blue and deep silver. A single window looked out onto the quiet forest. There was a writing desk, a small lamp, and a thick armchair near the corner.
Everything was tidy. Simple. Clean.
The room felt untouched for years, yet perfectly prepared for her.
"You’re free to roam around the house," the maid said gently as she adjusted the edge of the bedcover. "But please... don’t go outside the main gates."
Alina nodded. "Of course."
She glanced at the clock on the wall — 2:57 PM.
The day was still bright.
A question slipped from her lips before she could stop it.
"Where’s Lucien?"
The maid paused, then gave a small, knowing smile.
"Young Master is in his room," she said softly. "Would you like to see him?"
Alina’s heart jumped, but she kept her face calm. "Yes... if that’s alright."
The maid nodded. "I’ll take you."
Alina stood, brushing her palms along the sides of her dress, trying not to look too eager.
But inside, she was already wondering—
What kind of room would Lucien have? Would it be strict like his father? Or full of quiet little things that made him feel like a child again?
And most of all...
Would he be happy to see her?

Mira led Alina through a quiet hallway that branched off from the main corridor, their footsteps soft against the polished floor. As they reached the foot of a wide staircase that curved upward toward the east wing, Alina glanced sideways at the maid.
"You don’t have to answer if it’s rude," Alina began carefully, "but... what’s your race, Mira?"
Mira smiled, not offended in the slightest. "Oh, I’m just a regular demon," she said cheerfully. "Nothing fancy. I wasn’t very good with magic or combat growing up, so I trained as a support-class. Cleaning magic, cooking, things like that."
"That’s really cool," Alina said, genuinely impressed. "You know, we humans have to do everything by hand. No magical shortcuts for us."
Mira laughed, a warm, easy sound. "I’ve heard that! Honestly, I always tell young demons to practice doing things the human way — scrubbing floors with their hands, chopping vegetables without spells. It’s good for the body."
"Really?" Alina asked, eyes wide.
Mira nodded. "Yes. Our bodies are built differently. We’re born with a magic core inside — it circulates mana throughout our system. But humans don’t have that, so their strength comes from physical discipline. It’s why human warriors are admired in some regions. You people learn the hard way."
Alina smiled, a little proud despite herself. "If only I had a magic core... my laundry would fold itself and I could clean the entire classroom in five seconds."
"Ha! Don’t worry, Miss Alina," Mira said, glancing at her playfully. "You already have a rare power. Lord Dante lets very few people inside this home, but he brought you here himself. That must count for something."
Alina felt her face warm slightly. "I... I think it was just because I didn’t have a place to stay."
"Maybe," Mira said, her tone light. "But maybe not."
They reached the second floor. The hallway here was quieter, darker, the tall windows letting in soft gray light. The castle walls felt thicker here like they held secrets from a hundred years ago.
"Lucien’s room is just ahead," Mira said gently. "He usually keeps to himself when he’s home. But I think... he might be happy to see you."
Alina looked at the tall black door ahead and took a breath.
Alina raised her hand and knocked gently on the tall, dark door.
For a moment, there was only silence.
Then came the soft sound of light footsteps.
The door creaked open.
A small figure stood there, framed by the dim hallway light.
Lucien.
He was wearing tiny black pajamas, neatly buttoned to his neck. His soft hair was slightly tousled, as if he’d just woken from a nap, and in his hand... he was holding a worn black teddy bear.
Alina’s eyes widened in surprise.
She hadn’t imagined she’d ever see the serious, composed little boy in something so... adorable.
Lucien’s own eyes widened the moment he saw her. For a second, he didn’t move.
He had thought it was his father.
But when he saw Alina standing at his door, his grip on the teddy bear tightened. His cheeks flushed pink. And with a quick little movement, he tried to hide the teddy behind his back like nothing had happened.
His voice, when it came, was slightly higher than usual like he was trying very hard to sound like the calm, mature boy he always acted like in class.
"Miss Alina... you’re here?" he asked, blinking fast.
Alina’s heart melted.
She had never seen him look this soft, this startled, this... small.
"I didn’t mean to surprise you," she said gently, smiling. "I was told you were upstairs, and I thought I’d say hello."
Lucien stood up straighter, shoulders back, eyes steady — but the blush on his face betrayed him.
"I-I wasn’t expecting visitors," he said, clearly trying to recover his usual cool tone.
Alina pretended not to notice the teddy bear peeking out from behind him.
"Is now a bad time?" she asked softly, already beginning to step back.
Lucien shook his head quickly. "No! I mean... no. You can come in."
He opened the door wider, his movements still a little hesitant.
Alina stepped inside, careful and quiet.
His room was surprisingly simple — dark wooden shelves lined with old books, a soft rug on the floor, and a large bed with neatly folded sheets. A lamp glowed gently on the bedside table.
Everything was tidy.
Except for one small detail — a second teddy bear on the pillow.
Alina glanced at him again, this time with a twinkle in her eye.
"You must sleep well here," she said gently.
Lucien looked away. "It’s quieter than school," he muttered, eyes on the floor.
