Chapter 91 Chaotic situation
Chapter 91: Chapter 91 Chaotic situation
When she turned back to her babies, they were all gathered in a tight little group, eyes wide, some confused, some scared.
Alina walked slowly toward them, keeping her face as soft and calm as she could, even though her breath was catching and her knees felt unsteady.
Then Sable’s eyes welled with tears. The quietest child in her class, the one who barely spoke — his small lips quivered and then his face crumpled. He burst into soft sobs that barely made a sound, and Alina froze.
"Oh— sweetheart..." she whispered and quickly bent down.
She wrapped her arms around him and scooped him into her lap like he was a toddler. His face buried into her shoulder immediately, his tiny hands gripping her blouse.
Alina rocked him slowly, gently, her voice a whisper against his ear. "It’s okay... shhh, nothing will happen. I’ve got you, Sable. You’re safe."
She could feel his little heart pounding, his sobs shaking through her arms. After a few moments, he calmed slightly, still hiccuping, but not shaking so hard. She gave him a soft kiss on the forehead and whispered again, "Nothing will happen. I promise."
But then another sound came — a sniffling, louder this time.
Rocky.
She turned her head and saw Rocky stumbling backward toward the corner, tears in his wide eyes. Before she could reach him, he panicked and turned into his rock form with a little pop.
"Rocky!" she gasped, quickly placing Sable down and rushing over.
The rock — small, gray, and smooth was trembling in place. She knelt and picked him up with both arms. He was heavier now, but she held him close against her chest and rocked him like before.
"It’s alright, darling... I know you’re scared, I know... You’re not alone. I’ve got you."
She could feel it — the faintest shiver inside the rock, like his fear had soaked into the stone.
Then it started. One after another.
Boo floated down from the ceiling, his misty hands covering his face as he sobbed. "I’m gonna disappear," he wailed. "I don’t wanna be gone!"
Kelpie sat near the desk, tears rolling down his cheeks, hands glistening with water as puddles began forming around his feet. "I don’t want to get taken... I want to go home..."
Drake, who had tried to be brave, suddenly broke down too. He zoomed toward Alina in a blur of red and gold and crashed into her arms, wailing. "I want to go hoooome!!"
"Drake— it’s okay, you’re here— I’ve got you—" Alina tried to say, but her own voice was cracking now.
She was panicking.
Kelpie’s water was rising. The air was thick with fear and magical energy. Boo was clutching her back now, glitter stuck to his face. Rocky was still a shivering weight in her lap. Sable sat beside her, now crying again from the sound of others. Drake clung to her like a koala, sobbing into her neck.
She felt her chest tightening. I can’t do this— it’s too much—
But then she looked at them.
Their little faces. Wet cheeks. Trembling mouths.
And somehow... she steadied.
She took a deep breath, pushed her fear down, and whispered, "One at a time."
She turned to Kelpie first, setting Rocky down carefully on a pillow and rushing over before his water spread too far. She knelt and took his dripping hands gently.
"Sweetheart. Look at me."
His big, wet eyes met hers.
"You’re not flooding. You’re crying. And that’s okay. Just take a breath with Teacher, alright?"
He nodded weakly, and they inhaled together.
Then she hugged him tight, letting the water soak into her sleeves without caring one bit.
When he stopped shaking, she kissed his temple and handed him her spare napkin from her bag.
Then she turned to Boo, still wailing.
She opened her arms. "Come here, my little ghost."
He flew into her arms with a squeak. "I don’t want to fade..."
"You’re not fading. You’re glowing." She kissed his forehead, and he stopped crying almost instantly.
Next came Vlad Jr., who stood stiffly with tears in his eyes but hadn’t made a sound.
"Sweetheart," she whispered, opening her arms.
He hesitated.
Then nodded slowly.
He walked forward and wrapped his arms around her middle.
Alina hugged him silently, just holding him until the trembling stopped.
Then she turned to Luna.
Luna was pacing now, furious and crying at the same time. "I want to go to my daddy! I want him now!"
"I know, baby," Alina said, walking slowly toward her. "You miss him."
"I don’t want to be here!" she shouted again, fists clenched.
Alina hugged her tight. "You’re safe. I’ll take you to him later. Right now, I need your strength."
Luna trembled... then hugged her back.
Felix sat nearby, wiping at his cheeks quietly.
She didn’t say anything.
She just walked over and hugged him without a word.
He didn’t protest.
And finally... Lucian.
He is standing still, trying to be brave, but his eyes... they’re glassy.
She walked over, knelt down, and opened her arms. He stepped in without a word and something inside him bloomed.
Warm. Strange. New.
He didn’t know what it was but he didn’t want to let go.
Lucian didn’t speak.
But as Alina held him, his small hands tightly gripping the back of her blouse, something stirred inside his chest.
Her arms were soft. Her palm gently rubbed circles on his back. Her warm voice carried a strength that made the panic inside him shrink.
It was... different.
His father’s hugs were always strong, protective but they felt heavy, rough, more like stone than warmth.
But Miss Alina’s hug...
It was soft.
Warm like sunlight through a window.
Like a blanket wrapped around a scared heart.
And when she finally let go — slowly, gently — Lucian stepped back...
But his fingers lingered.
He didn’t want it to end.
He didn’t know why. But for the first time, he felt a strange disappointment...
Like something precious had just slipped away.
Alina gave him a reassuring smile, her hand brushing gently over his shoulder before she turned back to the rest of the class.
Her cheeks were a little flushed, her eyes glassy, but she clapped her hands softly and said, "Alright, my little stars. Let’s all sit together now, okay?"
