Chapter 102: Chapter 102 No one calls me

"Yes!" Luna barked. "Ugly, slimy worm monsters! They eat babies, Kelpie. Babies!"

He gasped. His hands trembled.

"And Vlad Jr. says they might come again. Drake is scared. Vlad Jr. is not going either. I was ready to go fight them, but—ugh! My pack pups need me for something important. So I’ll stay to help them."

Kelpie looked around, suddenly feeling very, very small.

"But... if you don’t come... who will protect us?" he whispered, barely loud enough to be heard.

"You’ll be fine. Just don’t go!" Luna snapped, not unkindly. "And call that Rocky too. If he shows up and turns into a rock, it’ll be annoying to drag him out again!"

Kelpie nodded quickly, even though Luna couldn’t see him. "O-Okay. I won’t go either..."

"Good. Stay home. And don’t forget to eat sea-fruit. It makes your mind faster," she said like a responsible alpha, then hung up.

Kelpie stared at the phone.

Then Kelpie turned toward the gentle old sea caretaker who wasn’t too far from where he was playing. She was standing nearby, quietly looking around with her usual calm presence. It was Aqualia, the wise mermaid who had cared for him since he was a baby.

Her long golden hair floated around her like silky threads in the water, catching the soft glow of the coral lights, and her eyes—calm, clear, ocean blue—always looked kind, even when she was gently scolding someone. Her tail shimmered like polished pearls, a delicate mix of pale teal and moonlight silver, trailing softly behind her as she moved through the water. It looked like it had been made from the ocean’s first morning wave.

Kelpie raised the crystal phone in his little hands and called out softly, "Miss Aqualia..." His voice wavered just a little, unsure but hopeful.

She immediately turned toward him and swam closer, her expression warming with affection. "Yes, little prince?" she replied, her tone as gentle as the sea at dawn.

Kelpie looked up at her with his big, shimmering eyes—eyes that always seemed to hold the entire ocean when he was nervous and held the glowing phone out toward her.

"Can you help me call my friend Rocky?" he asked quietly.

Aqualia’s smile deepened. She reached out and ran her hand slowly through his soft hair, brushing back a few damp curls that floated around his forehead. Her touch was light, familiar like someone who had done this a hundred times before.

"Of course, little prince," she said, her voice wrapping around him like a warm tide.

As she took the phone from him and began to help, Kelpie stood there quietly, his hands clasped together in front of him. His thoughts were spinning, worry curling in his chest like a cold current. He could only hope Rocky wouldn’t go to kindergarten tomorrow.

In the quiet, sun-kissed corners of the Stonehold Castle, the morning light glowed warmly on the balcony made entirely of smooth, polished stone.

A small lump rested there—round, sturdy, and perfectly still.

It was Rocky.

He had turned into a rock again.

Why?

Because sunbathing as a stone made his belly feel toasty. And it helped him think.

Well... not think exactly. It helped him feel better.

The warm sunlight made his rock tummy all cozy inside, like a baked potato wrapped in a soft napkin.

Just then, a gentle voice broke the peaceful stillness.

"Young Master, you have a call."

It was Petra, one of the castle staff who cleaned Rocky’s room. She always cleaned very carefully—even though Rocky had begged her not to. He got embarrassed when someone folded his cute pajamas or found his collection of shiny pebbles he kept hidden under the rug.

Petra was a basalt shapeshifter, known for their dark grey stone skin and graceful movements. She always smelled like earth after rain, which Rocky secretly liked.

Rocky blinked from within his stone form, then slowly shifted back into his little boy body. His soft black-gray curls flopped over his forehead as he looked up with round, sleepy eyes.

"M-Me?" he whispered, pointing to himself.

"Yes, little master. It’s for you."

Petra handed him the phone, careful as always and then respectfully stepped back.

Rocky stared at the glowing screen, then carefully pressed it to his ear with both hands.

"H-Hello? I’m Rocky," he said nervously.

He wasn’t used to receiving calls. His dad got important calls all the time. Rocky? This was his first.

A soft voice came from the other side.

"I’m Kelpie."

Rocky’s eyes lit up.

"Kelpie?! You called me?"

"Yes! Luna called me first," Kelpie said quickly.

"Luna called you?" Rocky gasped, his voice full of wonder. "She never calls me..."

"She said the kindergarten was attacked by worm monsters! And Drake and Vlad Jr. said they’re not going tomorrow. Luna said she was going to go fight them but then—her pack needed her!"

Rocky’s mouth opened in shock.

"Worms monsters??"

Kelpie’s voice lowered. "They eat babies..."

Rocky’s toes curled. His eyes darted toward the cracks in the balcony floor, just in case some slimy worm tried to wiggle through.

"No... that’s too scary..."

"Luna told me to tell you not to go either," Kelpie added quickly, his voice quiet.

"Oh... okay then," Rocky said, still clutching the phone. "If worms come and I turn into a rock, and they crawl on me..."

He shivered.

"No no—I’m not going!"

"Good," Kelpie said with a relieved sigh.

There was a short silence.

Then Rocky said softly, "...thank you for calling me."

Kelpie blinked. "Huh?"

"No one calls me..." Rocky muttered shyly. "But you called me... so thank you."

Kelpie’s cheeks turned pink, even if Rocky couldn’t see it.

"Y-You’re welcome..."

They both stayed quiet for a second, listening to each other breathe like babies do.

Then Kelpie asked, "What are you doing?"

"I was sunbathing," Rocky said honestly. "As a rock. It makes my belly warm..."

"Ohhh." Kelpie giggled. "That sounds nice."

"It is."

Another pause.

"Wanna come over sometime?" Rocky asked shyly, then quickly added, "Not now, after worms are gone..."

"...Okay," Kelpie said, smiling. "You can come underwater too! My caretaker will make you bubble suit!"

"Really?!"

"Yes!"

They both smiled, even though they couldn’t see each other. Somehow, their voices felt warm like sunlight.

"Okay... I’ll hang up now," Rocky said, "Before worms hear us."

"Good idea," Kelpie whispered.

"Bye, Kelpie..."

"Bye, Rocky..."
