Chapter 100: Chapter 100 Eat babies?

"Hello."

A deep, cold voice came from the other end, sounding like it could freeze fire.

Drake’s whole face lit up. "Hello!! Vlad Sr.! I’m Drake!!"

There was a pause.

Count Vladimir, on the other side, blinked slowly. "...Vlad. Sr.?" he repeated, sounding confused.

"Yes yes! Vlad Jr.’s father! Vlad Sr.! Hehehe!" Drake said proudly, bouncing on the bed.

No one had ever called him Vlad Sr.

He stared at the phone, then said in a very serious tone, "You called me."

"Yes! I want to talk to Vlad Jr. please!!" Drake replied, now rolling on his bed like a caterpillar. "It’s important!"

Another pause.

Then a quiet sigh. "Wait a moment."

Three minutes later, the voice changed.

"Drake?" came Vlad Jr.’s soft, calm voice.

"Vlad Jr.!!!" Drake shouted so loudly it echoed in his room.

"How did you get my father’s number?" Vlad Jr. asked, his voice curious.

"Oh, I found it on my mom’s phone!" Drake giggled. "I think she knows your dad. Or maybe your dad scared her once. I dunno."

"...Do you need something?" Vlad Jr. asked again.

"Yes, yes! Listen—do you know why kindergarten is closed today?" Drake sat up, serious now. "Because a BIG worm attacked our classroom! Do you remember?"

And Count Vladimir quietly walked out of his little son’s room to give him some privacy.

Vlad Jr.’s elegant brows furrowed. "Yes, I remember Principal Dante said there was danger."

"And—and I heard the maids talking—they said the worms eat babies!!" Drake cried, his voice full of drama. "So I called you! I thought maybe you can drink the worm’s blood and scare them away!"

There was a long silence.

"...But worms don’t have blood," Vlad Jr. said seriously.

Drake gasped. "What?!"

"Worms don’t have real blood. They have slime," Vlad Jr. said.

"Oh my dragon tail!" Drake said, looking down at himself. "Then how we stop them?! What if they come back?! What if they eat ME? I’m juicy! I’m spicy! I don’t wanna be snack!"

Vlad Jr. was quiet again.

Just then, Drake’s mom, Pyrra, walked back into the room.

"Drake? I think I left my—" she paused.

Her eyes went wide.

There he was, her little baby, lying on his bed with the phone in his hand, speaking seriously.

"Baby... what are you doing??" she asked slowly.

Drake turned his head, guilty.

"I was just... borrowing your phone... I missed my friends..." he said.

Pyrra walked over, took the phone gently, and saw who he was calling. Her jaw dropped.

Count Vladimir.

She blinked at Drake. Drake smiled innocently. "I just wanted to say hi."

Pyrra sighed. "Okay. Say bye, baby. And no more secret phone calls."

"Yes, Mama." Drake waved at the phone like Vlad Jr. could see him. "Byeeeee!"

Click.

Vlad Jr. held the phone in his hand, still processing everything.

Eat babies?

His heart jumped a little.

He looked around his room and thought seriously.

If Drake was right... if worms were still after them... then someone had to act.

He immediately scrolled through the numbers. He spotted one.

Alpha Ryker.

That was Luna’s father.

She always said things like, "My daddy can punch through a tree!" or "My daddy once scared a rouge so bad it became a sock."

After a few seconds, a rough but strong voice answered, "Hello?"

Vlad Jr. straightened his back and said seriously, "Alpha Ryker. This is Vlad Jr. speaking."

There was a pause.

Alpha Ryker blinked, confused. He had thought the call was from Count Vladimir, not his son.

"Vlad Jr...?" he asked.

"Yes, sir. I was hoping to have a few words with Luna. My intention is only to talk about something important related to kindergarten," Vlad Jr. said politely, his tone calm and elegant.

Alpha Ryker raised his eyebrows. Honestly, he was impressed. So formal. So well-spoken.

Most wolf pups either barked or called him Uncle, which he absolutely hated.

"Alright," he said. "Give me a second."

He walked into his daughter’s room and found her sitting there.

Alpha Ryker looked at her and said, "Luna, it’s Vlad Jr. He says he wants to talk to you. Be nice."

Luna frowned. "Why is he calling me?" she asked, confused.

"I don’t know," Alpha Ryker said, handing her the phone. He thought it was something related to homework. Then, he left the room because his beta had mind-linked him about something important regarding the last rogue attack.

Luna took it and held it to her ear. "Hello?" she said grumpily.

"Luna," Vlad Jr.’s calm voice came through, "I believe we need to prepare. There might be danger."

Luna’s golden eyes narrowed. "What danger?"

Vlad Jr. lowered his voice. "Worms."

"What?" she said, annoyed.

"Drake heard from his servants that the Earth Worms are trying to break into the kindergarten. He’s scared. And honestly..." Vlad Jr. paused, "I think we need to be ready. What if they come back? We were attacked by them just yesterday... but Principal Dante saved us in time."

Luna blinked. Then she said she thought he was talking about those ugly earthworms that appear during monsoon or sometimes on vegetables. "Tch. Those slimy things. If they come, I’ll bite them."

On the other end of the call, Vlad Jr. sounded serious, as always. "Drake said they eat babies. I think you’re talking about the normal ones... but I guess the ones that attacked us are different."

Luna froze.

Her fingers twitched, and her ears twitched too.

"...Eat... babies?" she repeated, a little softer.

"Yes. Drake said they eat babies." Vlad Jr.’s voice was calm but firm, like he was delivering an important vampire report.

Luna’s bravado faltered just a little.

She wasn’t scared, of course not!

But...

She also didn’t want to be chewed by some slimy worm monster.

"...That’s gross," she mumbled, picking up her bone plushie from the bed and hugging it tighter.

Vlad Jr. continued, "I have decided. I will not return to kindergarten tomorrow. Although I am not scared, Drake is taking leave, and as his friend, I will also take leave to support him."

Luna sat upright.

"What? You too?" she huffed. "I was ready to bite those slimy creeps! But if you and Drake are not coming..."
