I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 144: He is keeping something from me

Chapter 144: He is keeping something from me

"It is almost unreal. I think she ran away." Lisa said as the car drove into the Bureau.

Ravi looked at the time and sighed.

"Don’t tell me you want to clock out. I thought you have changed."

Ravi rolled his eyes, her with this change, "I have something to do at home." He still had to teleport to the forest and take an animal back home. Asher’s time had gotten better, from 80 seconds to 75 seconds but it was still not fast enough.

As for Alexis Russell, Ravi did not care much about her, he was more concerned about the branch of the Infernal Covenant that was coming over for Asher.

He checked the time, 3:45p.m, he had not even had lunch yet.

"The Captain is right. This whole setup would turn into a riot if they find out that Miss Russell is missing. They would think that Eclipse people secretly did away with her."

Ravi sighed at the mention of Arlen. It was strange. Compared to the kidnapped girl, it was as if Arlen was more concerned with keeping the news away from the public than finding her.

It was not the Arlen that he knew that was ready to jump into the fire to rescue a woman that all clearly knew was a bad person.

It was just too cold for him.

He bit his lips and looked outside the window to look at the two-story building of the Police Bureau.

The two of them came down and entered the police Bureau, meeting the Russell parents at the door. The woman looked less distraught than she had been when she arrived hours ago.

"Thank you, Captain Sinclair. We would be hoping for you. We will call you once we get the ransom call."

Arlen nodded but Ravi caught something in his gaze, guilt.

Why would he feel guilty? Did he lie to the couple and why would he lie to them? Did he know something more about this kidnapping and why was he not telling them?

The series of questions made Ravi look more closer at Arlen, he was even avoiding contact with him. Not looking at him, keeping his distance.

He bit his tongue.

"Officer West, Officer Johnson, please tell us, what did you find?"

Lisa sat down, "We interviewed quite a lot of people, many people have a lot of things to say about her. Some claimed she is a hypocritical do-gooder but they did not truly hate her, there was no malice when she spoke to her. 80% of those we talked to loved her. From what we know, she is an environmental activist, she has been one since she was ten. Her organization is focused on the sustainability of local businesses. She has dated twice. Her first boyfriend moved to another country three years ago and her current boyfriend is Ethan Wallace, who is 21 years old. They had been talking around campus that Alexis was planning to break up with him so we could put him down for potential suspects. Of course, her actions for the last three years have helped a lot of local businesses but she has gained quite a lot of influential enemies. I and Officer West combined a list and we have to go over them, one by one."

"Amazing job. The two of you have done well. You can finish up your preliminary investigation on the suspect on this list and go home."

Everyone looked at each other, "Go Home?"

"Yes. Tomorrow is another day. We would need all our wits with us. So come home early and rest up."

With that, Arlen took the list and started heading upstairs to see the Chief. ’

Lisa moved close to Sarah, "Captain is acting odd. Sarah, check if you can listen to their conversation. I think the Captain is hiding something from us."

"If he is, then we should not pry," Ravi said, pinning Sarah with a look.

"I was not going to anyway." The good-natured woman said before chasing up her seat.

Lisa turned quickly to face him, "Don’t you want to find out?"

Ravi just headed to his cubicle. Of course, he wants to find out, he wants to find out more than anyone in this office.

He focused on his work, occasionally looking to see if Arlen was back but he wasn’t. Once it was 4 p.m., Ravi stood up and left the office quietly.

Arlen was an independent adult, of course, he had his own thoughts and secrets that he would not share with him but why did it hurt this much? He felt as if he had been shut out and it hurt so terribly.

Ravi squatted on the roadside and took a deep breath. He breathed in so greedily as if the oxygen could feel the sharp shards in his chest.

He did not know how long he squatted there before he stood up. If it was Arlen, what would he do?

He would probably confront him.

He did it all the time, coming to his house so early to know why Ravi was angry with him, or following him to lunch to know why he had not replied to his messages or why he did not send him an emoji back.

It looked easy to do but Ravi found it difficult.

He took a deep breath, moved to the old girl’s academy, and disappeared. A second later, he appeared on a mountain. The mountain was full of life, with a large number of trees and lots of vegetables growing everywhere.

Not far from him, there was a creek with white stones surrounding it. It looked picturesque but Ravi was not in the mood to admire nature.

He walked through the forest, looking around before looking up, countless black shadows were moving above him.

Shriek!

The sharp and ear-piercing bird cries were like tidewater as they resounded in his ears. Ravi tore through the sky before he appeared on his farm, a large bird in his hands.

Carelessly fashioning a large cage for it, he placed it there and turned to catch the person running towards him.

"Ravi!"
