I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 124 - 10 Questions Game
Chapter 124: 10 Questions Game
It was his turn to ask. He drank another glassful of wine. He looked at Arlen who was sitting less than a meter away from him.
"Do you have someone you are dating right now?"
"En?"
"Mmh?" Ravi suddenly realized what he had asked, and looked at the glass of wine. It might have even more alcohol than he had anticipated. That question had slipped from his lips before he could control it but Ravi could not go back right now.
If he changed the question, it would be even more odd.
"They talked about it in the office, so I was curious, if it is too personal, you don’t have to answer."
Arlen shook his head, "Was it Lisa that asked the question?"
Ravi decidedly nodded his head.
Arlen chuckled, "I am not dating anyone right now." His last relationship had been so messy, so painful that he was a little afraid to return to the dating scene.
Ravi’s eyes glowed, a sweet small joy creeping into his heart and wrapping its tail around the organ.
"How about you, Ravi? Are you dating anyone?"
Ravi shook his head, "No. I am not." He took a sip and wondered what question he should ask Arlen, "How long are you planning to stay in Davenport?"
Arlen’s eyes widened a little at the question and he looked at Ravi. He was more perceptive than he initially thought. It was something that he had never mentioned before or even alluded to.
Arlen gave him a faint wry smile, "One year."
One year! He knew it would be short. A 28-year-old, Level 6 Weather Manipulation, no one in their right mind would allow the officer to stay in Davenport for long. Arlen had told him that he had made a mistake in the Capital, but even punishments have an end.
But one year. It was just too short.
A month had already gone by. So eleven more months and Arlen would return to the elites in black uniform.
"Oh!" He just said quietly.
"Are you upset?" Arlen asked, moving closer.
Ravi took another sip of wine, "Is that a question?"
Arlen smiled, "Yes. Yes, it is."
"I am not upset. I was...expecting it. My turn, Arlen.." He looked at his face. A chiseled jaw, deep-set features, aquiline nose, sword-shaped eyebrows, and the most beautiful ocean blue eyes, "If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?"
Arlen’s eyelashes fluttered as he tapped the wine glass in thought, "My ability."
"You would give up Weather Manipulation, what ability would you want then?"
Arlen grinned mischievously, "Is that another question, Officer West."
Those words, that low, deep voice washed over him like a blanket and he felt his entire body slowly heat up. He took several shallow breaths and his tongue darted to wet his suddenly dry lips.
Arlen’s eyes moved to that pink tongue and his Adam’s apple bobbed. He moved his eyes away, it was just a tongue and yet he felt so hot all of a sudden.
"Yes."
Ravi’s voice sounded, successfully distracting him.
"Telekinesis Or Kinetic Energy manipulation. I think it is cool. How about you?"
"Atomic Manipulation."
"It sounds powerful. I mean, what would you like to change about yourself?"
He automatically wanted to say his face but recalling the words from earlier, Incomparable, an exquisite perfection, his ears turned red. There was something about Arlen that made you believe in whatever he told you, "My height."
"Ya, shorty."
"If you call me that Captain, I will poison your water next Monday."
Arlen grabbed his wine glass with mock fright, "Oddly specific."
The two of them looked at each other and chuckled.
"My turn?"
"Okay."
Ravi’s face was flushed with excitement as he drank the wine, "Okay. What is the craziest thing you have ever done?"
"Craziest. I am a model citizen."
"Arlen?"
Arlen smiled, "When I was nineteen, I was in this young heroes program. More like we were interns to registered heroes, followed them around, learned the loops, and stuff like that. So I had a friend and we felt like we were not doing a worthwhile job so we decided to sneak into the headquarters and capture Zen, he is a very popular crime lord."
Ravi could not believe it and almost choked on his wine, "At nineteen, you wanted to capture Zen. He is the No. 4 most wanted villain isn’t he? Arlen." He burst out laughing.
The Captain blushed a bit, "We were stupid. I know. I was grounded for a year and I was an adult."
"Your parents were still too merciful. What happened?"
"We were captured but my brother saved us."
"Good thing he did." If not he might not be able to meet Arlen, what a terrible thing that would have been. So his recklessness at Maia’s house was not a one time thing.
"I am not so reckless now, so don’t look at me like that."
"Like what?"
"Like I would be safer if you tied me up in your basement." Arlen joked and then waved his hands when he saw that Ravi’s hand was on his chin like he was considering it. He reached forward to pull his hand from his chin.
"What are you thinking? Stop it. Stop that line of thought."
"My basement would have all the movies that you like and food, fruits, strawberries, the cake, the juice, the jam." Ravi teased, not attempting to pull his hand from Arlen’s grasp.
"You drive a hard bargain but I would be too afraid you wont go to work to stay." Arlen laughed loudly.
He had moved from less than a meter to right next to Ravi, he noted that he smelled of bergamot and sweet myrrh. It was a subtle yet sweet scent with a sharp spike of black pepper that made one’s head spin.
He could see the black locks that fell over Ravi’s face, wild and yet like every strand was meant to belong where it fell. He couldn’t help but wonder whether Ravi’s hair was as soft as it looked.
