I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 116: Shopping
Chapter 116: Shopping
"Ravi?" Asher asked.
Ravi looked around the shop, they were mostly selling bedding. He could always transform the bedding but with the 8000 dollars in his bank account, he wanted to splurge.
"What is your favorite color?" Ravi asked as he pulled a shopping cart trolley.
Asher looked at him and shook his head, "They don’t have it." His favorite color was gray with flecks of gold. Maybe he did a favorite color, he had two and those two must be mixed for it to be his favorite.
Ravi cocked his head, how rare must the color be, "What is your second favorite color?"
"Gray." Asher replied immediately.
Ravi raised an eyebrow, "Gray?" What teenager likes such a color?
"Don’t you think it is a little boring?"
Asher shook his head, "It is not boring at all. It is beautiful and it is safe."
Safe? Ravi did not understand that particular word in connection to gray but he did not question it.
"What is your favorite color?"
"Blue. Ocean blue."
Asher looked at him and realization flashed in his eyes. He pushed down the uncomfortable feelings.
A friend had told him to imagine that there is a treasure chest in his mind, when he is confronted with something he does not like or understand, he can put the emotions in the chest. When he is safe, he can take it out and understand it better.
He had done it for so long that it was instinctive. Malik said he was compartmentalizing and he could teach him a better way to handle his emotions. He said that he would think about it. He did not.
Moving closer to Ravi, he asked, "What are we buying here?" They were in a home décor store, with different beds and bedding.
Ravi smiled mysteriously and handed him a cart.
"10 minutes. You have to get fifteen items you would need for your room and your bathroom. If you win, we will check out the ice cream store." He handed him the cart.
Asher collected it, a dusting of red on his cheeks, "I am not a child."
"You have nine minutes, fifty seconds."
With that, Asher hurried and pushed the cart away, causing Ravi to chuckle. He hoped with the time limit, the other would not think too much and select the things that he liked.
"Yours?" A woman asked, she pushed the cart, two toddlers probably three and one were in the cart having the time of their lives.
Ravi nodded before moving away slightly, he had no intention to enter a conversation with other parents. What would he say when they ask, which school? At least before he settles Asher completely.
He did not need extra bedding and décor, so he just strolled to the kitchen area and selected some utensils, extra cups, chopsticks, and a few plates. As he wondered, he could not help picking some extra things that caught his eye.
Ten minutes later, he met up with Asher at the counter. Asher paused when he looked at the basket that Ravi was carrying.
He hesitated before saying, "You really like ocean blue."
It was at this moment that Ravi finally noticed that every item he bought had a familiar color.
His cheeks turned red and he coughed.
"It is easy to wash."
The young woman behind the counter burst out laughing before raising her hand to apologize.
"Sorry, Sir. Let me pack those for you real quick." She collected the basket from Ravi and Ravi looked down at the cart that Asher was pushing.
"What is this?" He raised a light green glass container with an odd shape.
"A soap dispenser." Asher replied tentatively.
"They even have that. But it is just for liquid soap."
"I think so. Let me check."
The two faces came together as they struggled to read the words at the back of the soap dispenser.
"It is not written in Avalonian. Ravi, can you tell what it says?"
Ravi narrowed his eyes, "It says we should probably scan it since we are in a queue."
Asher’s lips twitched as he pushed the cart over to the woman.
"You don’t know what it said."
Ravi pursed his lips, "I can speak more than 50 languages."
There was a snort from a man behind them, "Your father does not understand the language. He is just too ashamed to admit it. It is Baloki."
Ravi was not offended, especially when he saw Asher smiling. He was a little afraid of how Asher would react to the other people but all his fears did not come to fruition. He would be alright. He patted the other’s head.
After buying the bedding, they had to go to a corner so that Ravi could transform a pebble into a shopping cart.
"Can I push it?"
"Okay." Keeping their items in the cart, they went to the grocery store.
"Loaf of Bread."
The two of them fell into a pattern, where Ravi would call the item and Asher would run to get it.
"Can of Sardines."
"Which one? There are like hundreds."
"Get the one that starts with M."
"There are two." Asher said, turning with two cans of sardine, Matus, Minera.
"This one sounds like him." Ravi said as he took the Matus and kept it in the can. Give three more, just in case."
Asher placed it in the cart and began pushing it when Ravi stopped him.
"Asher, have you had sardine toast before?"
Asher shook his head and they went back to get some sardines and another loaf of bread.
The two of them then stood in front of the cold drink fridge, looking at the assortment of malt drinks in the fridge. None started with S or M or L.
"Should we go alphabetically?"
Ravi turned to give him a thumbs up, "Get five. Low Sugar."
Asher carried the drinks and dropped them in the cart. His cornflower blue eyes were glowing, full of excitement.
"What next?" He said and Ravi thought for a second.
"Milk. Are you lactose intolerant?"
