I Am Tired Of Being A Hero -
Chapter 104: Professor Patel
Chapter 104: Professor Patel
"Is it okay?" Ravi asked as he bit into the soft meat bun, the skin was soft and hot and the meat inside was spicy and soft. After finishing the bun, he sipped the cold soy milk, it was slightly sweet and very creamy. They added something, coconut cream?
Still delicious.
Arlen had not held back when ordering, he had even sent them to deliver some to the Bureau. He bit into a sesame bun with vegetable filling, "It is okay. Sometimes you need to step back to see the full picture."
Ravi looked at him, dark circles around his eyes and a tired expression, "You are quite the hypocrite. Did you even sleep last night?"
"I did."
"For how many hours?"
"The soy milk is really creamy, right? I think they added some kind of cream, coconut, or cow milk, what do you think?"
He changed the subject, this Captain of his can be quite cute at times.
"It is coconut."
Arlen chuckled, his phone beeped and he took it out, "Let us go. We have a meeting with a future consultant."
"Consultant?"
"I have not bribed him yet. According to the Dean, he refused the first time we asked him to come down to the Station." Seeing Ravi’s look, Arlen smiled, "Have you heard that saying? If the Mountain did not come to Moses, then would Moses go to the mountain?"
Ravi looked at him and he tossed the paper bag and the cup into the bin, "You made that up, didn’t you?"
"No. Have a little faith."
Ravi smiled and entered the car. The Davenport Community College was further than he had expected and it was very large, sprawling buildings and trees that looked as old as Davenport. They met with the receptionist and she took them to the Dean’s office.
"Captain Sinclair. Welcome." It was like seeing the Chief all over again, the middle-aged woman had nothing but huge smiles for Arlen and she invited them in.
Her office was very large with comfortable sofa chairs and a coffee table. Were teachers this well off, Ravi looked around, he did not mind changing his job.
"You have to get at least two degrees and publish 3-to 5 papers to get this position. There is no shift and you can work till late in the evening." Arlen whispered in his eyes, causing Ravi’s eyes to widen. Was his greed for this place so noticeable that even Arlen could see it?
"Dean Elen? The new criminology professor? We talked about it on the phone?" Arlen said, not sitting down.
"Yes. Yes. I heard about the news, Terrible indeed. I hope our college can provide some help for this case."
Arlen did not disagree with her, just nodding.
"Linda. Take them to Professor Patel’s office." The secretary in the outer office came in and her eyes widened for a few seconds before she smiled to herself.
Patel. Isn’t that Malik’s surname? Ravi frowned and sure enough when the secretary knocked at the door, the voice that replied, ’Come in’ was the same voice that had asked him for Money.
Arlen must have thought so because he sighed, "My luck is 0%"
"Don’t worry so much.
Ravi said with a smile.
The two of them entered the office. Malik was sitting in a black swivel chair with a white earphone in one of his ears, there was a young woman sitting opposite him, she was taking notes attentively.
"Ravi?" Malik said as he entered the room.
Ravi smiled, "Malik."
Arlen felt like his luck was truly 0%. To think that the person he had praised so completely and was thinking all day of how to bribe so he could become a consultant for the Bureau was the same person, that we’ll, that he didn’t like.
Arlen looked at Ravi, he knew how scared this beautiful smile was and yet he gave it so freely. He stopped his thoughts at that moment, he could recall how shamefully he behaved yesterday. This person was important and so is important to him.
"Professor Patel, I am Arlen Sinclair. We met yesterday."
He watched the expression on the fair face look nervous and he felt a little guilty.
"I was hoping to come over and apologize for my behavior yesterday."
Malik stood up, grasping his cane to come over, "So did you come over to apologize."
"No. I am afraid I came on official business."
"Alright, if you are going to apologize, it is best if you come with..."
"Beer or a basket of fruits..." Ravi cut in, and then whispered to Malik had come over to his side, "Don’t tell me that you were planning to ask for Money?"
"Is there any shame in asking for Money? I like money the most."
"You are a professor, shouldn’t you have the grace of an academic?"
Malik rolled his eyes, "Would the grace of an academic feed me?" He loved money, if he did not like money so much then would Anouk go through all the trouble of clearing his foreign bank accounts and his shell companies and give all his paintings to charity? His lips twitched, an angry Anouk is really cute, but not as cute as a crying Anouk though.
His finger trembled as if recalling the memory of that heat as the teardrop fell on his fingers.
He placed the memory carefully and returned to the present which was filled with the scent of jealousy from the taller male next to him. He was not as cute as his big brother though.
"Professor Patel."
"Call me Malik, a friend of Ravi is a friend of mine. This is my assistant, Emelda. Emelda, we will continue later."
The young woman with short black curls and sword-shaped brows looked hesitant to leave but she nodded and closed the door shortly behind her.
Malik gestured to the chair in front of him, "Please make yourself comfortable. Tea? Or Coffee? Water?"
"None." Ravi said, looking around the office. There were two bookshelves against the wall, filled with various books, even the table was not spared with tens of books scattered on it. On the wall were two paintings, the color of water life.
Arlen nodded as well. Ravi passed him the bag and he took it, opening it and pulling out the files before he paused. He had actually forgotten that this person was blind, he looked at Ravi who realized it and gestured if he should pack them up.
"You can just describe the scenes to me. What is it that you need help with?"
