I Am Tired Of Being A Hero
Chapter 103: Sage’s breakfast

Chapter 103: Sage’s breakfast

Ring! Ring! Ring!

His phone rang several times and Ravi turned.

"Thump!"

Ouch! Ravi had no desire to wake up, he was so exhausted.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

"Ravi, Are you alright? Stop laughing, Sage." Asher’s voice sounded right next to him but it felt as if it was a million miles away.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Ravi stretched out and picked up his phone.

"Ravi! You have to come to work now! We found something!"

Ravi bit back the ’so’ at the tip of his tongue and yawned. He opened his eyes to see two pairs of eyes staring at him. A familiar cornflower blue and steel-colored eyes. The last time he had seen those gray eyes, they were like a pair of torches that blazed as if they wanted to burn, crush, and destroy everything on their part.

Now, they just looked amused, like a child seeing something interesting.

Ravi was too tired to bother with the older teenager.

"Ravi, good morning." Asher said, squatting by his side.

Ravi rubbed the child’s hair, "Good morning, Ash."

"You are ignoring me again." Sage said as he leaned on the door, a slight envy in his eyes, "Anyway, Malik asked me to bring you breakfast that you would not have time to cook." He walked out, stopping at the door, ’Thanks for the corn."

Ravi looked at him and then at Asher, "Your friend?"

Asher shook his head and then nodded, causing Ravi to chuckle. Well, the child might have killed quite a number of people but at least he was polite. Ravi yawned.

"I will get the food for you." Asher said, standing up.

Ravi shook his head and stood up. He yawned again.

"Do you have to go to work? You are so tired." Asher said, his voice filled with concern.

His worry warmed Ravi’s heart, "Don’t worry. I would be fine." He disappeared, going upstairs to freshen up, and then came downstairs.

He sat in the kitchen and opened the container, it was rice, jollof rice, it was a bit too dark for jollof rice. Did he fry the tomato paste until it burnt? He paused, from the corner of his eyes, he could see a small portal, purple wisps danced around the perimeter. It was so small, enough for just a pair of eyes to look through.

Ravi ignored the eyes and took one spoon. It was like time stopped.

"Sage cooked. I admit. I have committed some sins but I doubt any of them warrant such punishment." Malik’s words came to him, clear as day.

He signed, the tomato paste was burnt, and the fresh tomato puree was not fried enough, making it sour, he must have tried to fix it with spices but the spices were too much, making him feel like there was a riot in his mouth.

Seventeen years.

Ravi continued to eat the food, until the plate was polished clean.

Being a Sentinel was not always, some worlds were more than desolate.

"Asher. If you return the plate, put some fruits and snacks in it, okay."

Asher nodded, Ravi sighed, "For breakfast..."

"Don’t worry. There is so much food. Or I can eat noodles. I really like it."

Ravi smiled, "Good boy! I will see you in the evening." He ruffled his head. After this case was closed, he would fill the entire fridge with cooked food. He had not had much time. He yawned, this time he did not walk down to the alley, just teleportation to the alley next to the Old girl’s school.

When he entered the office, he saw everyone gathered in the Captain’s office. It was still a few minutes after seven o’clock so he was not late. But it was still surprising that even Tom had come out so early.

"Good morning."

"Ravi...Officer West. You are here, good job, yesterday." Arlen greeted him, before picking up the phone and walking out to take the call.

"I am not sure if he slept at all last night. He was the one that found this."

Ravi came closer to see what this was, there were several pictures on the projection, and they all featured a yellow taxi cab.

"We found something in the surveillance. A taxi appeared in all three locations."

Ravi widened his eyes, he could not believe that the little observation he had made actually bore fruit.

Sarah signed, "We have checked with the Taxi company and checked with the Department of Motor Vehicles, the plate is not registered."

"We are thinking that the killer changes his plates when you know, he wants to go on his killing spree." Lisa said, still proportioning her theory of a serial arsonist.

"There is no Mo or some kind of ritual. If we say that he is targeting families, this last case was not a family at all. The lawyer was old with nobody around so I don’t think he is a serial arsonist." Draco said.

Everyone had their own idea of who this person was and why they were doing this.

"We are waiting for the list of taxi drivers and recently fired drivers from the two taxi companies in Davenport. We would have to repeat yesterday’s program again and check them out, one by one. I just hope the reader will detect the person I am so exhausted."

Ravi did not spend his time listening to them, he had his own job to do.

Yesterday, Arlen had assigned him the task of investigating the elderly in victim, the father-in-law, Mary’s father, and the lawyer, it was very difficult. Different schools, the lawyer did not even grow up in Davenport.

Mr Johnson worked in an Electrical company and retired years ago. Mary’s father, Mr Micheal did over ten jobs, he was a jack of all trades and did any job that would let him earn money and Mr Fonda was a lawyer. Where is the connection?

Different religions.

"Officer West."

Ravi looked up from the computer at Arlen. Didn’t he leave with Draco?

"Captain."

"You look like you need a break."
