Chapter 737: Chapter 733: Why Confront the Zombies?_1
Upon hearing this, Wang Qingfeng, the manager at the Chenghuang Hotel, trembled and quickly shook his head, indicating he had no solution.
Li Songhua seemed to anticipate this response, looking at the others with a smile.
"Zhou Ruixiang, how about you?"
He turned to Zhou Ruixiang, the owner of the human-flesh burger stall. She too shook her head as if bobbing a drumstick the moment his words died out.
Li Songhua didn’t pay it any mind, surveying the room. All under his gaze responded like the ones before, frantic head shaking.
It was when he looked at Tang Ye that his face stiffened. Of all the people in the room, only Li Henian was a figure he feared!
He forced a smile and asked quietly, "So, President Li, what about you?"
At his words, Tang Ye withdrew his hand a bit, a teasing smile came upon his face, which turned rather peculiar.
"Are you sure you want me to come up with a solution?"
As if remembering something, Li Songhua’s face softened but his eyes flashed a menacing gaze.
"You are my elder brother, we should stick together in times of crisis. Of course, we need a plan from you."
"Is that so?" Tang Ye gave a weird smile and then slowly spoke, his words leaving everyone momentarily dumbfounded.
"Why should we strategize against the zombies? Isn’t that superfluous? In my opinion, we should just let the zombies in. They don’t eat us anyway. To be honest, zombies aren’t as terrifying as you imagine. We humans can definitely establish an era of peace, a civilization starkly different from the pre-apocalyptic world."
"Once zombies and humans maintain a level of peace, wouldn’t the end of the world end soon? We wouldn’t have to hide in places as grimy as sewerage pipes like rats."
Tang Ye murmured, yet silence prevailed.
Upon seeing this, Li Songhua lost the heart to continue questioning.
Outside, a person happened to pass by. Upon hearing Tang Ye’s words, a thoughtful look appeared in her eyes. She glanced deeply at Li Henian through the glass and then quickly left.
She went downstairs to the stairwell, surveyed her surroundings, and took out a cell phone to make a call after making sure no one was around.
The phone rang for a while before a man’s voice came from it.
"Hello," She gently hummed in a very soft voice, evoking the image of an innocent, harmless little girl.
"What’s up, how are things going over there?" The man on the other end of the phone spoke.
"Uncle, hurry over. The zombies in Hua City are gathering. If we’re late, even if Jin Wenyi hasn’t been tortured to death by Li Songhua, he’ll die once the Qinshan Base falls."
There was silence on the other end of the line; no words came for quite a while. After two or three minutes of what seemed like some commotion on his end—conversations, objects being tossed around, and the sound of dragging chains—the man spoke.
"I just received news that some members from the City of Bright Moon and United District... wait, what? Weren’t there four members? Why are they all at Qinshan Base?"
Another voice could be heard from his end, presumably in discussion or as a reminder to Jin Liudong.
"I don’t know either, but it all started with the Commission Member of Jinhai and the City of Bright Moon targeting Li Henian. For some reason, the other members know about it too. It must have been deliberately leaked."
Jin Liudong on the other end frowned but soon shot up. He seemed to realize something, pushing away his furrowed brows. His eyes were suddenly gleaming.
The seven Commission members of the United District were men of ill repute. With all of them settling in at Qinshan Base, it seemed as if they were helping Li Songhua rid of Li Henian and the Peace Party he established. But wait...
A sudden realization hit Jin Liudong and his brow knitted once again. Just now, he had pondered that even if the seven United District Commission members congregated at Qinshan Base to help Li Songhua deal with the Peace Party, considering the ambition of the Commission members, they wouldn’t allow an outsider like Li Songhua to reap the greatest benefit. Why wouldn’t they seize Qinshan Base for themselves? By then, Li Songhua would be trapped, desperate for life and death! His son would then be safe for a while.
With his son in the hands of Li Songhua, how could he, as a father, not worry? But every time he thought of raiding Qinshan Base to save Jin Wenyi, his heart would tremble, as if a terrifying presence was waiting for him there!
This was his sixth sense. Since the apocalypse began, his sixth sense had saved him multiple times. He was a firm believer in this sensation. His son’s life was indeed important, but his own life was paramount!
If he loses his son, he could father another. But if he loses his own life, everything is gone!
Furthermore, all the soldiers he sent to Qinshan Base to rescue Jin Wenyi died under suspicious circumstances within a few days. He was even more certain that something was waiting for him!
His biggest suspect was the girl on the other end of this current call that was so eager for him to go to Qinshan Base to save Jin Wenyi.
But thinking hard about it, why was she so urgent? For his life, or was she really worried about his son?
Jin Liudong was indecisive. His understanding of the girl fluctuated; sometimes he’d think that if he went to Qinshan Base, she would transform into a demon and eat him whole, and other times, he’d consider her as an innocent girl wanting to rescue her boyfriend.
This was why he hadn’t sent a large army to save his son Jin Wenyi. He kept putting it off, waiting to take down one of the commission members who had been keeping a close watch on him in the United District before going all out to save his son.
The United District’s commission members headed to Qinshan Base to eradicate the Peace Party. They wouldn’t let go of this big catch that is Qinshan Base. But if they all gang up, things would get out of hand. Among the seven commission members, one of them had been his debtor before the apocalypse occurred.
Jin Liudong was no saint before the apocalypse. He wasn’t the type to help others, or help an elderly woman cross the street. He even made full use of his affluent background to set up a company—a loan agency. It was a grey industry. Everything was fine in the beginning, but as the laws of the country developed and grew stricter, his high-interest loan company faced suppression.
Under legal pressure, the debtors fought back legally, pushing his company into a corner. But before this, a man whose father was ill had borrowed more than 100,000 from his company. Excluding the "advance interest repayment," it was actually just 70,000 to 80,000.
All this money was used on the man’s sick father, but medical costs before the apocalypse were too overwhelming for an ordinary family to bear.
