Chapter 720: Chapter 716 Someone is Coming _1
After pausing for a moment, the three of them moved away. However, as they passed by the Military School Plaza, they noticed a dozen of Eagle Transport Aircraft parked there. The aircraft doors were wide open, and mysterious soldiers in indigo exoskeleton armor stood in a neat formation on the field.
The soldiers they had just encountered were only a drop in the ocean. Now, there were probably thousands of exoskeleton armor soldiers standing straight on the field, all exuding a heavy aura of menace, neatly matching each other.
They juxtaposed sharply against the lackadaisical Qinshan Base soldiers nearby!
"Why are there so many people? Earlier, Commander Ling mentioned something about the Jinhai Reinforcement Army, they must belong to that Jinhai faction. I wonder if they’re a survivor base or some organization."
"Reinforcements...seems like they’re here to help Li Songhua. Ha, Li Songhua sure knows how to ask for help, let’s bring this news back to the chairman."
"Let’s go!"
Dai Changhao looked at the government building, with the Canghe-P90 on his back and a broom in his hand, he headed straight in. If anyone asked what they were doing, the three of them would make up an excuse.
"We’re here to clean."
Luckily, the discipline at the Qinshan Base was sloppy, and there was no thorough identity check. After their explanation, the officer they ran into casually let them into the government building.
"Let’s find the basement, something that big would only be parked down there."
"Let’s split up."
The three quickly planned their actions and scattered towards different passages leading to the basement on the first floor.
Three minutes later, the three regrouped and, avoiding the surveillance cameras on their path, sneaked into an office.
"Zhang Ding, you said you found it earlier. Where was it?"
"Follow me, and stay quiet, there are guards there. I can’t be sure, but I think this is it."
"Move!"
After a brief conversation, they crouched down and followed the Peace Party member named Zhang Ding. They quickly found the place he mentioned earlier.
"There are two people, shall we take them out?" Little Wu asked, a spark flashing in his eyes.
Dai Changhao didn’t speak, but made a throat-slashing gesture, murder shining in his eyes.
At the end of the corner, there were two soldiers standing guard at a door with their weapons in hand, acting as if they were extremely serious, heads held high, chests out. However, their eyes were fixated on the digital clock above the door.
They were waiting for the "end of their shift".
Just then, Little Wu suddenly emerged, swiftly pulling out the Canghe-P90 and firing at the security camera.
Bang! Bang!
Two quick flashes later, the lens of the surveillance camera was shattered, and the red indicator light went dark.
"Who’s there!"
The two guards quickly raised their guns in response. The lights in the corridor flickered on and off due to the voice-activated system. Nobody responded to the security guards. Instead, two long particle beams met them!
Splat!
"Someone..."
One of the soldiers’ heads was blown off on the spot, killing him instantly, while the other managed to dodge in time but was still hit in the shoulder, grimacing in pain.
He grabbed his walkie-talkie and had only managed to say two words when the nearest light flashed on. A hand reached out and snatched the walkie-talkie from his hand, then another hand wrapped around his head and twisted forcefully.
Crack!
"What’s going on? 10065, what’s happening over there?"
After killing the two guards, a confused voice could be heard from the walkie-talkie.
"Nothing’s wrong, we’re just here to take over the shift and scared those two with a prank."
"Shift change? Alright then, stay alert and report any abnormalities immediately."
"Sure thing."
After ending the call, Dai Changhao and Little Wu exchanged a glance and then motioned for them to open the door.
Upon touching the doorknob, they found that the door hadn’t been fully shut and was about to topple over.
"Huh?"
Little Wu stalled in confusion: "This door’s bent, there’s even a footprint on it."
"Nevermind that, let’s go in first!"
With the door wide open, everything inside was shrouded in darkness. After fixing the door back into the frame, Dai Changhao groped for the switch to turn on the light.
With the light on, everything inside was revealed. It was a passageway leading downward, with the walls plastered smooth with cement. There were no decorations – it was just like entering a barren house.
Once the lights were on, everything in the passageway became as clear as daylight. The three of them didn’t think too much and quickly walked down. Unlike what they had expected, the passageway was straight down with no side branches. After descending the stairs, they saw another door ahead.
Compared to the previous door, this second door underground seemed even more pitiful. Though it was made of H-beam steel to be thief-proof, the door was disfigured due to being twisted out of shape. It was crookedly fixed onto the doorframe, its hinges loosened with only one hanging securely.
Without expending much effort, Dai Changhao kicked the door open. Everything had been too easy and raised their doubts.
"Does this place really have the weapon the chairman mentioned? It doesn’t seem likely."
Dai Changhao narrowed his eyes and stepped inside. Under the exterior light, he saw the lavish interior. Nothing else.
This was a room of around seventy square meters, with a suite of sofas in the middle and a tea table set up front. The floor was laid with white jade. Three bookshelves stood against the left wall, filled with books, all of which were covered in a layer of dust. Their owner apparently didn’t flip through them often. Besides that, there was a computer and various odd collectibles.
"Search around. Check if there are any hidden switches."
"Go inside."
Upon confirming that there was nobody inside, the three let down their guard and started searching. Yet, half an hour later, the room had been thoroughly ransacked and their faces looked bleak.
"Damn it, it seems that thing isn’t here!"
"Where else are we supposed to look? We don’t have any clues."
Dai Changhao scratched his neck, kicked the sofa into a corner, and sat down.
"The chairman said that Li Songhua’s weapon is as tall as a small building and incredibly powerful. It’s eye-catching and can’t be hidden just anywhere. At least not above ground; it would be discovered too easily. Moreover, Su Sigui is also here. If an incredibly powerful weapon exists, how could Su Sigui possibly not know? Even if she isn’t interested, doesn’t mean others aren’t!"
"But we aren’t finding anything here." Little Wu said, puzzled.
Dai Changhao fixed his gaze on the bookshelves, drumming his fingers on the sofa cushion.
"Could there be a few hidden in..."
Tap, tap, tap...
Before he could finish his sentence, footsteps echoed from outside, and the three reacted quickly, each hiding behind the door.
"Someone’s coming!"
